Oh but remember mikencelia, that this IS a tv-show, and we WANT to see and hear more personal stuff about the main characters. I do know what you mean, that this is probably not the way it would play out, but imo it would be pretty boring if we didn't get some "drama" once in a while.

I find the other types of cases more entertaining and just as dramatic. Every episode gives a setting to provide background info. This episode was just too heavy handed...it was overdone for me.

This episode was set up to be a psychological tour de force for everyone. It was written and directed in such a way that it gave each character the opportunity to show what they got. They all did a fantastic job, however, the story was ridiculous. Why? Because the way it was played out would never factually happen like this. MS is not a fatal disease and just having tremors means little. Also, the way the detectives handled the interrogation was all wrong. Yea see this is why I was looking at this John at the beginning before it his condition was revealed and he just looked kinda oddly make up. I didn't realized by looking at him that he was supposed to be sick. Back in season one when everyone was talking about tidbits of what Lilly would say in her suspect investigations I wasn't sold that what she was sharing was real. I thought it was just a way to get information. This is what lead me to believe (this sharing of info as real) that the show was a Sunday night replacement for Murder She Wrote style or Touched By An Angel - I know I've said this many many times but it just seems like this is what the show should have been about; centralized on Lilly and then her crew. Yes I agree. They did an excellent job.

Naj- I think Lilly was really telling the truth about her bike ride, just from that look in her eye. It was a moment of happiness.. throughout the whole episode, I noticed it was dark outside b/c of the rain, could this be symbolic for death?

Hi longislanditalian2, I think you may have misunderstood my post above. I was talking about the first year of Cold Case I wasn't sure if Lilly was telling the truth or fabricating infomation and when she was doing it. But it's clear she's sharing how the cases affect her and she shares real life experience. Naj- I think Lilly was really telling the truth about her bike ride, just from that look in her eye. Tuned into this ep last night ... and I have to confess that I really enjoyed this one a lot. It stuck with me overnight, and I am prepared to say this is now one of my favorite episodes of Season 3 - and possibly of all three seasons. I can't speak for the accuracies and/or inaccuracies that mikencelia has pointed out - which are valid. However, as just an average, interested viewer, this ep held my attention from start to finish. What stuck with me most about this ep - aside from the excellent performances of the cast - was that it had a sense of urgency to it that we don't always get. That is, I felt as if I wanted to find the second missing boy as much as the detectives did, and I was looking at the clock as much as they were. Everyone was kind of rushed, they knew time was against them, etc. - that all seemed very tangible for me, and it added another layer to this already packed episode. The performances of the entire cast were fantastic but credit must go once again to Kathryn for an absolutely brilliant final interrogation with John Doe. Wow ... I kind of just stared at the screen for a little bit going, "And why does she NOT have an Emmy, yet?" In truth, I was again so impressed by her subtleties, her delicate strength, how she chose to deliver that very powerful exchange. Seemed to me Lilly was almost reborn in that scene. As much as George tortured her with his insistence on getting her to fess up to the horror(s) of her childhood, with John, she fessed up one of what seemed to be her most cherished childhood memories. It was the total opposite - she wasn't being forced to relive the horror of her past in this moment; she was reliving something GOOD for a change, and chose to offer it up and be proud of one of the few moments in her childhood that didn't leave a painful scar. Veena Sud continues to impress me with her storylines. From what I have been able to see thus far, she has an undeniable ability to tap into emotions in her eps that are just so layered and gripping, and I so appreciate her tackling Lilly's backstory. She does it in a clever way, and she furthers the rounding out of an already complex and intriguing character. That is not to take anything away from the other writers, but Veena is a cut above the rest, IMO. As she now assumes the role of running the show for Season 4 (taking over from Meredith), I must say I have great faith in what we may get to see this season. If they can continue to deliver eps like this, it may turn out to be a fantastic Season 4. Couple of other character points: Scotty's interrogation of John Doe - felt very "Lilly-esque," which was neat to see. I guess her style is rubbing off on him. I was thoroughly impressed (Danny Pino was fantastic in that scene). More Lilly/Stillman - always a great combination/dynamic; also seemed that there was actually a lot of Stillman in this ep, which I liked. John Doe - I thought he was a different kind of villain, but an excellent one at that. I don't think you always need the over-the-top, evil, crazy, psychotic bad guy. The average guy down the street can be just as compelling with the right set of circumstances. And thus, I thought it worked in this ep. I know that MS is not a fatal disease (as I have a neighbor who lives with it). But, it can be destructive and debilitating nonetheless. Thus, that was what I thought was being showcased - having to face/cope/deal with something you never thought you would have to deal with. Great ep, IMO.

Hi drummergal ... over in the Fan Art folder, there is this thread that has links/requests for various clips from CC. I don't know if there are any specific to "One Night," but you could always request one. lovecoldcase is excellent at making great clips from the eps. (Welcome to the board, BTW ... )

I always admire Kathryn's acting but she really was great in this one. Right down to the story of when Lilly was little. I loved the ending when she saw Justin then steve, you can really tell what was going through her mind

The last time someone commented about this episode was 2 yrs ago. I've just watched this one in a rerund and this is the best season 3 episode. I would write forever the reasons I loved it but I'm not gonna extend that much Excellent screenplay, acting, music.... Even if the case in the end was not around Steven, he was a great victim Valentino & Justin, they were in love, I loved the way showed the way they were in love with each other but not really showing it... However, there was something that was never explained ? What were doing Valentino & Justin on the streets? They were male/teen prostitutes or something like that?

Yes Valentino and Justine were male/ teen prositutes.. Thanx LII2... I read a post from you in another episode's thread where you said it's good somethings to let things unsaid... But I mean, It was never explained on the show what Justin & Valentino were doing on the streets... I know I know It was obvious because of the location and the time... and the car and everything but I think It'd been good if they would have said it... Maybe it's not the CC Nature(it's not L&O: SUV) but anyway Excellent episode!

Wow.. a year and two months since the last response for this episode. I recorded it and now just watched it.
That was really good, I admit, there were somethings I didn't think would happen in real life but it was still good.
I did notice the time that seemed to be going forward.
So since Lilly was leaving, was John in his office or did Lilly call him? I mean I'd hate to be Will, Nick and Scotty being woken up and the same goes for John if he was at home in bed.
I liked the acting in this as well, nice to see more of Stillman.
