Oh yep, Lil's recalls were relevant to the reallity. They were in a dream but they did happen in the past. As for the cold, maybe it has no relation with the weather. Lil could be ill but not wanting to admit it she spoke about a thermostat. The logic , however was that Vera had said "It's May Lil! If you are cold you aren't fine!". Think actually the idea might have been there early, maybe not in all detail, but Stillman showed signs of being a mentor of Lilly's career early on, in season one already IMO. Stillman didn't say he barely knew Lilly's first partner as far as I remember. His reaction in the scene on the balcony was more like someone knowing very well, who Lilly was talking about. Is there any other scene? Maybe it was her mentor but not her supervisor from so early... Even Stillman did know that guy well finally, would Lilly even ask if he had met him? It's a pointless question if Stillman was their Lt back then. It's like, now, she asks him if he met Lassing. Of course! He gave him orders!

Well, yeah, I know that. I was pointing it out as evidence that Lilly's dream really can't be taken literally, but metaphorically. Also, the Nick in the real world probably would have said something like "It's May. Is something wrong with you?" not "Cutbacks!"
Also, naturally the people in Lilly's dream are going to act like everything's all hunky dory and normal. Hell, Lilly probably could have started levitating, sprout wings from her back, cause the weather to change, and no one would have batted an eye. "Oh, Lilly's in one of her moods." "This is a normal everyday occurrence for her!"

Oh, yeah, everyone was almost normal when nothing else was.
Maybe in Lil's mind everone is idnifferent towards her... She hasn't aknowledge of the caring of the others... That explains many things, however...

Bit late to the party here but I just watched this episode, and whilst I thought it was quite good I didn't like how the whole thing turned out to be a dream. Fair enough she may have managed to discover a few things in a dream, but solve a whole case? That's ridiculous. Then for them to be arresting the guy, and Lilly being pulled out of the lake within a similar time frame... that doesn't even make sense. IMO they should've either:
- kept going where they were going and somehow not made it be a dream, because those hallucinations were realistic in that sense, or - put the scene of her being pulled out of the lake at the beginning of the ep, then go from there.
And another point, wasn't Lilly just a normal detective before she was called over to the cold case squad? For people who remember the first episode, she'd been called up from a homicide investigation or something. i.e. that thing about Stillman calling her like that was bullsh1t and a massive contradiction. If anything this is what annoyed me most, did they think no one was watching season 1? oh well I was more angry with the season 3 finale, I'm over getting annoyed now.

well... The flashback from Into the blue was from 1998 The season 1 was from 2003. So writers were not wrong with this. She was a normal detective from 1998 until 2003
Anyway, This episode is trash for me

It was all inside of her head. Lilly went to Homicide in 1999 and decided to work only only old cases in 2003. The writers probably forgot since it had been awhile, some of them are new.

I personally enjoyed this episode because it was something different, something unexpected. But as LII2 stated everyone has their own opinion about this episode & I can't wait to see how it all plays out next season!

@lii2: Some of them are new? Almost all of them are new I was referring to that the writer's might have forgotten some details, but since it was coming from Lilly's dream; we didn't see from the other point of views to know if or if not Stillman was a LT back in 1998. We only saw bits a pieces of them solving the case at the end; when the storyline back to reality. Either way it could be just Lilly, not the writers. Who knows that's why I found this episode to be so interesting yet well acted at the same time. Also we also saw most of it from her preception in her dream.

In the flashback in this episode when Stillman talks to Lilly about her career, she was shortly before becoming detective. He wasn't talking to her as supervisor (he was not at that time) but as mentor. They talked that she might be promoted to detective in about a week and Lilly said, she thinks she would be send the East division then first. He told her, that he was interested to get her into homicide unit in the long run, that she should learn her job in East and then in some years, when the time is right, come to homicide.
In Patrick Bubley Lilly says, it was her first homicide she worked on as detective at all (year 1999). What makes us think she was already in homicide unit at that time and not in East (or another field division)? Homicide is a specialised unit, think doesn't have to mean that detectives in the field divisions never do such investigations. Ben Fulcram was probably her first partner as detective, don't remember they said it was in homicide. Actually never had the impression, that she had been there already at that time.
Not sure when Lilly came to homicide. She did seem not totally new on the job when the show started, but not all secure already either. We do know she started with cold cases in 2003.
Don't neccessarily see here a mistake. Not saying the writers always are consistent.

I voted for 'one of the season's best'. This episode was just awesome, just: wow! Well, they really got me with this dream/hallucination thing, though I already knew about it, because I read that the season's finale is a dream of Lilly(or at least partly) here. Stupid me! Well, I don't have time to post what I want to say now, but I`ll do that later. Maybe. Sorry for the bad English. I'm still learning it (I'm from Germany, still going to school(9th grade)) and watching Cold Case really helps, though you can't notice anything. Oh, yeah. Almost forgot. I've had some problems to understand a few sentences and I couldn't make them up by guessing around until the translations dict.cc gave me made sense. I hope you can help me. 1. [t= 38:35] 'Busier than blablabla in an a**-kicking-competition, Moe.' - Lilly 2. [t=38:42] something with a 'flood' - Kitchener 3. [t=38:48] 'Pretty soon blablabla' - Kitchener 4. [t=39:29] 'It happended where I'm sitting' [? dunno. so unclear.] - Kitchener 5. [t=40:39] 'EMT said she blablabla' - Nick

Opinion read, and noted. theunert 1. "Busier than an one legged man in an ass kicking competition" 2 "You can't fight back the flood" 3. "Pretty soon it'll drag you down too" 4. "Not from where I'm sitting" 5. "The EMT said she kept going on about the log sheets" I agree. They managed to find a way to let us learn a lot about Lilly without having her sit down and suddenly start giving us some sob story. I know a couple of people think that we should never learn anything about Lilly, but what people need to remember is that this show IS about her solving these cases. That's why they should end the show if they ever write Lilly off.

LOL, similar to the Bones season finale. Who was that guy who sat beside Lil when she woke up in the hospital? Is it her father? Uncle? Don't tell me it's her boyfriend I can't even remember which episode I saw as the last one... It was in Season 5 I think.
