If you head over to the Spoiler forum you could ask InsideR if Lilly's father is in the cards for season 4. It could be interesting if he did show as part of Lilly's process.

Could it be possible that he left due to something he was running for and wanted to sheild his family from danger??

LII - this is CC we're talking about. It's been proven before, anything's possible with these writers. Damn their enigmatic scripts.
I'd actually like to see some initiaive, of Lily's part, to try at least track down her father. Not necessarily meet him with an awkward, 'hey dad, long time no see. What's up?'
But more of a keeping tab thing.

Somehow I keep thinking that she knows where he is but doesn't want to see him yet

Lilly's still deeply upset about him leaving, maybe he could make the effort and track her down...

He's gotta be dead. His death is probably what sparked Lilly's Mom to become an alcoholic. Somehow I can believe this

To be honest, I think it was her mom's drinking that caused him to leave.

I think Lily's dad left ultimately because of her mom's drinking too, but there were probably other little things. My question is, if he left because of the drinking why didn't he take his daugther with him? And why didn't he keep in contact? Ok, that's two questions. Any thoughts?

Maybe he had trouble with intoxicants, drugs or alcohol, as well. That's why he didn't kept any contact with his family after he left. Or then he was just a cruel, selfish, emotionally dead person, who didn't care enought of his daughter(s) to mind to take them with him, instead leaving them with an irresponsible mother. Which I know is a much more crueler thought, but I just can't see that someone who is cabable to abandon his kids just like that, without any troubles on his own, could be some loving or otherwise a perfectly good person...

Eli, maybe you're on the right track. Lily's parents were very young (I'm guessing teenagers) when they had her. If her mom had alcohol problems maybe her dad did too, that could be how her parents met, in a bar or drinking in high school? Maybe he just couldn't deal with everything and lost touch, letting too much time lapse and not finding a way back into Lily's (or Chris') life? So many questions....

I just think he doesn't care about his kids, about how much Lilly had to go through and how well she turned out to be. She's still mad at him for leaving her, a part of her was lost when he had left.
There are many possiblities to why he had left, maybe Lilly's doesn't know for sure why he did after all she was just six

I think he's alive....and he may come in one of the following season. He left Lilly when she was 6, I don't remember when Lilly tells that And the fact that he left Ellen can explain that she becomes an alcoholic

He's one of those characters that we know a little about, and we will find out a bit more about occasionally, but we may never see. My guess is he will turn up at some point, perhaps S6, just when things are looking good for Lilly.

We all know that Cold Case isn't the type of show that just throws out its whole playbook at you at once. They just drop tiny little hints every so often to keep you guessing. I'm not so sure if we'll ever see Lilly's father, but it would be nice to meet him sometime. And if it's not clear from what I just said, I think he's alive

Yeh I think he'll be a character we'll continue to hear about until they finally decide to introduce him at some point. Sure let's think about it, it wasn't until season 3 that we actually met Ellen.
I think he's definitely alive but it would be interesting if he is a cold case in another state and it links their detectives back to Philly. Who knows but I'll stop typing before my mind goes away with me.
In a nutshell: I think he's alive and he may be a part of the show at some point or another.
