...several articles I read said if Cold Case had been on any network but CBS, it would have probably lasted one more season, as it still brought in respectable ratings. But for CBS, with the CSI franchise (which is slowly aging and starting to fall as well) and Leslie M looking to cut costs, Cold Case was expendable. By this time next year.... so will two of the CSIS as well IMO. As for not writing a series finale episode....it wasn't just rumors like in Season 6... the writing clearly was on the wall. It is what it is though. I couldn't believe it myself that Cold Case was canceled. CBS's Sunday night ratings were double than any other network, and it seemed this show was vital in bridging viewers from the network's final hour into the local late night news. I thought an eighth season was guaranteed! But as I look at CBS's new Fall 2010 shows, I can see the network has an unusually powerful set of new shows coming up featuring several actors that can bring in a huge following. So even though Cold Case may have been doing outstandingly well in the Sunday 10:00PM slot, the network probably still needed to make space for the new shows and prepare other shows for their own final seasons. (And I agree, probably one or two of the CSIs are being set to end.) Therefore, it doesn't seem to me that the network heads at CBS thought Cold Case was doing bad, but rather they have a bunch of great shows coming in--especially in the police & law procedural genres--that they need to make room for. Cold Case still had a lot of potential, which ironically is probably the reason why CBS is unwilling to let another network pick it up right now. On the topic of new shows, normally I don't let myself get excited about television. There's been too many times where I'd watch a new show, only to see it canceled with major story arcs uncompleted. It ends up being a waste of time. But for the first time in years, I'm looking very forward to watching several new shows. I am DEFINITELY excited about the new "Hawaii Five-O". Great cast, and filmed entirely on location in Hawaii?? I'm IN!! "The Defenders", starring Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell? Again, two great actors, and apparently filming on location in Vegas? I will definitely give this one a watch. "Blue Bloods" featuring Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck in a role completely different from Thomas Magnum? I will definitely watch this show. It will be very interesting to watch Selleck in a different role, like watching Larry Hagman in "Dallas" versus "I Dream of Jeannie". "$#*! My Dad Says" starring William Shatner in a comedic role? I LOVE Shatner when he does comedy, especially since I was hooked on "Star Trek" when growing up! Again, hate to sound repetitive, but I will definitely watch this show!! So I'm certainly upset about the cancellation. But I'll hope that if CBS finds great success with it's new shows this fall, that it won't feel threatened to let Cold Case be picked up by another network. That would be a great win-win outcome of this all.

Well, it looks like CBS is trying to ensure I never watch a crime drama again.
They are getting rid of the two female agents on Criminal Minds- there will be only one woman left, and she's tech support. Also CSI is getting rid of one of their two women in the main cast.
Cold Case was such a great show in regards to equality- they showed women fighting sexism from 1919 to the present. They had so many strong female victims (Kate Butler, Francis Stone, etc). Although Lilly wasn't the true leader she was the heart of the team. Kat was another strong female detective.

I wonder why CBS even bothers. It just seems like in one way or another, they are alienating their audience.

Ugh! I'm a criminal minds fan too... it appears CBS wants to get rid of any crime show over 5 years old by the end of next year. And best way to do it is to destroy team chemistry . I like the characters of JJ and Emily and the idea that viewership is going to increase by cutting their characters?! I should also note that other than the main CSI show, the two spinoffs are being pushed into bad time slots. I don't watch CSI Miami at all..but it should be noted its getting the death slot at 10 p.m. on Sunday that Cold Case had. I imagine by this time next year we will reading about several more CBS shows being axed. I am truly angered by CBS. I'm sorry but I find it absurd that a man who has beaten his wife,is a drug addict and has made it clear he doesn't want to keep working on it is being paid 1.8 million per episodes yet quality crime shows and their stars are being tossed aside left and right at CBS.

I don't think I'll be watching anything on CBS from now on, They canceled my two favorite dramas, COLD CASE and GHOST WHISPERER.

Yep there were only two shows I liked. Cold Case and Criminal Minds and now I am officially DONE with any CBS show or sponser product. Both shows portrayed strong female characters and people are mad as hell about the blatent sexism CBS has shown. I never really believed that they just couldnt afford to keep Cold Case going because of the song rights or stars paychecks. I dont agree that this falls new shows are going to be so great. They can shove that Criminal Minds spinoff. I didnt like the original Hawaii Five-O so I imagine this one will be stupid too. If you are a Criminal Minds fan look for the petition and sign it. If they ditch that awful spinoff they can keep all the original CM cast members and put Cold Case back on instead.

Cold Case was the one and only show I watched on CBS. I'll be heading straight back to FOX on Sunday nights and boycotting CBS for life if Cold Case doesn't get an 8th season or a spinoff.

In this case, I don't think its sexism..as much as the bean counters putting $$$ over quality shows. The head of CBS even talked about how much money would be saved now that Cold Case is gone. I know on the CSI shows several actors/actresses aren't returning due to their contracts not being renewed. What I have the biggest problem is all the excuses they're giving as to the stupid changes they're doing now on Criminal Minds. At least with Cold Case they were right upfront with Thom,Tracie,Jeremy and John about why they were getting reduced screentime. Don't insult these fine actresses and the viewers by saying it's not about $$$.

I can´t imagine how hard it must have been for Tracie and those three guys whose roles were reduced or eliminated in 6 or 7 episodes each person and to still come to work.

I imagine it was hard... but still not as hard as it will be for Aj and Paget. At least the producers on CC were upfront and honest with their stars about why they were making the moves they were. None of this creative difference garabge...and from what I've read, just from Tracie's blog and elsehwhere, they didn't just spring it out of nowhere and stab them in the back like on Criminal Minds.

But, yeah, it is better to be upfront and honest and I'm sure Tracie and the three guys appreciated it.

I can't believe CC was canceled. It's listed as 'in danger' often, but somehow CBS always comes to their senses and realizes that CC isn't doing bad at all. In my opinion, premiering all these new shows at once is risky when they have CC with an established viewer base.
As for CM, I'm gonna miss AJ and Paget, nothing much else to say.
CBS is screwing up bigtime.

I'm also sad that CC was cancelled. Has it ever happened that any network returned to the series that had already been cancelled?

I'm also sad that CC was cancelled. Has it ever happened that any network returned to the series that had already been cancelled? Family Guy, and I think 7th Heaven. You think y'all had it bad? I've been watching this show since I was nine!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so ticked when it came on later thanks to football; then during season 5 I believe, it was moved to nine o'clock, and I was LUCKY to catch an episode. I was tweleve at this time, and so that means I have school. The very next year, it's moved to 10! The ratings went down slightly because some people had school in the morning and couldn't catch it, therefore I COULDN'T watch the final two seasons. At the end of my Freshman year of Highschool, I find out that CC is threatened and signed a petition, with THOUSANDS of others. Of course that was ignored. All my other crime dramas came on late, and I have to watch them through netflix. CC was the only thing I looked forward to on tv, and now I'm almost happy that my parents got rid of cable. At least, though, I can watch my show through the web. Anyone want the link, let me know. Anyone know if you can become a producer at 17?

Was just watching some old Case Case episodes that I saved on my computer and found myself wishing that a new season was starting even though it's been off the air for nine years.
