I still have mixed feelings about the finale. As an episode, I really enjoyed Shattered a lot. My reservations come from these:
- Jeffries has had pretty much nothing to do all season. When his big case finally happens, half the screentime is dedicated to Lilly's unrelated sidestory, so I can't help but feel a bit robbed for him.
- as a season finale, it's pointing towards the Christina/baby in Lil's life for the 8th season and Lil taking care of the 2 is not really something I look forward to. I think they could get good mother/daughter storylines with Kat and Veronica (still waiting for them to deal with Kat's past!).
- it looks nothing like a series finale and since it's likely to end up this way, it's a bit sad to finish with the cold case team so disjointed. I can't even remember when was the last time the 6 of them were in the same scene.
That said, kudos for the continuity in the Wanda Johnson's case, great Jeffries' scene with Officer Mueller, it was brilliant that the "doer" had been mentioned in a previous episode and that the PPD's most hated individual is taken out and CC managed to make us feel for him! I won't detail again why I loved so much Christina's comeback and the Scotty/Lil's scenes but that last scene in the back of the car where Lil is brushing Christina's face/neck? Awww... every time it makes me melt like last year's Stillman with Lil in the ambulance.

As a season finale, it rocked. As a series finale, it sucked. It seems a bit lame for me to just say "I agree" to everything zoe said, but I agree. Poor Lilly, after years of hard work, gets stuck looking after Chris and her daughter- right back to where she was when she was young. Lilly looked so sad and resigned on the trip back. One of the things that made Cold Case great was that the detectives used good old fashioned interviewing to solve cases. There wasn't much of that here. Instead five of them solved cases by breaking the law (Vera, Jefferies and Kat on getting the gun, and Lilly and Scotty- well, everything they did, basically). Poor Stillman. His entire team has gone renegade. It would have been fitting to see the whole team working together, but instead we have Jefferies, Kat and Vera doing their thing, Scotty and Lil doing theirs, and Stillman sort of doing nothing. The Wanda Johnson case wasn't very interesting, after all that buildup. She gets shot accidentally, and there was drugs involved. Surprise! Though I guess at least we didn't get her being an ultra talented something and then being pushed down the stairs in the heat of the moment when she decided to quit her job/ manager / club. (Also, they used a 1993 case, and didn't use Streets of Philadelphia? Would have been perfect) On a selfish note, I would have loved to have seen some old faces and find out how they've been doing. I guess that's a personal preference though. Let's face it, they never would have come up with a series finale that pleased everyone. I much preferred Into the Blue as a possible season finale. Kate Butler would have made a fantastic final victim too. A much more appropriate Rolling Stones ending song would have been You can't always get what you want
