I liked it a lot, but still can tell that Lilly's heart is still broken. How cute was Scotty as a little kid? Did anyone notice the white lillies on the piano at the end, mean something? Stillman cracked me up , dancing at the end with Kat and Vera.
Scotty has more compassion for his sibling then Lilly does with Christina. I kinda of figured that the ex-wife had killed him but she should have let John let Jenny have her dream. Instead it was all about her not wanting her own child to be happy. Maybe that's why Lilly's dad isn't found. Maybe somehow Ellen is protecting Lilly from finding out who who dad is for the same reason.
A lot of songs are indeed hidden with secret messages, which was explain the Beautiful Little Fool when lena says songs from that era are coded , but all songs are..
Anyways I'm just glad that the love triangle is over, Lilly needs time to find herself again. Hey why aren't Lilly and Scotty doing any interrogations together, they are great together nailing a criminal.

Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly the best episode yet. Everyone was great tonight. Tonight's victim will definitely be a memorable one. And I didn't see the end coming at all. The episode really captured the whole spirit of early rock 'n roll. And of course, we were treated to an unusual flashback. And Vera had some more memorable lines as always. This show is clearly back on track.

Phenomenal and TIGHT!!! Excellent. W I X A "WIXA", the station's call letters, are all comprised of letters that have vertical symmetry. I wonder why?? Letters with vertical symmetry appear the same when viewed in a mirror, and mirrors and reflections seemed a little more prevalent in this episode. Perhaps they are meant to symbolize the difference between outward appearances and inner dreams, thoughts, desires and secrets?? This theme was prevalent in the many characters of this case and Scotty and Mike's sidestory. Or are we at the center of something?? Or as Disasterfreak likes to point out, it has absolutely nothing to do with nothing?? ;D

Hmm could mean some, but what about the White Liliies on the piano at the end do they mean something??
What about the song that young Scotty was humming that the older Mike was humming in the present day??

I'm not a fan of the 50's song or time frame and I hung in there for the first 15 minutes and I was reeled in. That usually doesn't happen. This was a great case/story and I had no idea how it was going to turn out. It shows another side of how a father can change and really want to be a part of the child's life and have intentions in the right place with the right emotional attitude. I don't think I've seen anything written by this writer for the show before (not sure). I'd say this was a great episode as well. I like how they're having the detectives kinda working as teams on the cases instead of just changing them up at every scene. The substory with Scotty was quite interesting and I like the way they have approached telling the substories this year as well as how they are presenting the cases. So Jeffries was a Western Country DJ? ;D That didn't jive at all. I wonder where they thought that one up. Stillman was cute at the end dancing and getting Kat in on it. It was a good episode. So Scotty's brother was sexually abused by --- who? Loved the Scarlet Rose song. I'm wondering if they wrote that specifically for the episode. I'm not sure what I'm going to give this ep. I have to think about it a bit more.

I sound like a broken record this season, but this was another strong episode. I gave it a "good," which once again feels like I'm saying it's sub-par because of all of the "excellents" that I have been giving thus far. For an episode to get an "excellent," it has to have more Lilly. She was a non-factor last night, which is OK occasionally. No one seemed to have the episode last night -- it was a true collaborative effort and it worked well. I just want to once again tip my hat to CC for beautifully weaving together the cases and the detectives' personal story lines this season. The episodes move between the two effortlessly, and I am enjoying the personal side a lot. Clearly, Mike is deeply affected by what happened to him when he was just a young boy. This boxing coach sexually abused him, but he isn't ready to come to terms with it. That flashback to when he and Scotty were kids was very emotional. They did a nice job casting the younger Scotty and Mike roles. It looks like Scotty has a tough road ahead of him where Mike is concerned. The case was very enthralling. I found myself completely wrapped up in Jimmy's story and I never saw the daughter twist coming. Like last week's Saving Sammy, the clues were there, but I was still surprised when we learned that Jimmy's ex-wife was the murderer. She knew that he kept his gun in that cabinet -- she even told the detectives that he took it with him everyday. It never occurred to me that she used that knowledge to end his life. Like last week's killer, she had some deep rooted issues stemming from her past. She found her father after he committed suicide and she worried that her ex husband would take her daughter from her. She seemed a little "off" to me from the first meeting. There were a lot of great moments last night. Everything from Vera and Kat's funny lines to the hidden lyrics, Lilly's interrogations, using Jenny's song against her right before they interrogated her, the revelation that Jeffries likes country music because he used to DJ, and Stillman and Kat dancing at the end of the episode made for some fun scenes. All of these contributed to a season 1 feel for this ep. I, too, liked "Scarlet Rose." I'm hoping we learn more about it like we did with last season's "300 Flowers." As always, more thoughts and a few caps at Pass the Remote

I feel they found what wasn't working and fixed it with the detective mix and the personal storylines. It was really distracting last season. I think this storyline for Scotty is interesting and the ep was his last night without overly overshadowing the case which was another good one. The show is looking more like a finely oiled machine. ;D

I somehow missed the funny lines. I shall go back and rewatch it. Anyone catch the Little Richard performer? And Vera contributed this week. I laughed at how he had sought out the original lyrics for songs and his knowlege of the area. He must have learned something from Scotty last week regarding "reading up" on autism. I loved it! But I found it really interesting and so clever with the deleted lyrics. And anyone catch "Rose" again. It reminded me of Best Friends and the Billie poetry.
I have to agree (for me) that Excellent eps and Best of Season are Lillly heavy but top notch cases. Baby Blues falls there for me and some of the others I gave Excellent. This was a good all detective ep featuring Scotty. I gave it a Good.

You know if the writers wanted to make this episode even better , they could have had Kathryn herself sing the song.
Lilly seemed better in this episode, maybe she's learning to things go. She didn't look so worn and tired or even lonely in this episode.
Scotty was excellent about how he cares for his brother, such a difference btwn his relationship with Mike and Lilly's with Christina.

Hello. New here.
Just one question: Who played Hawkins? I recognize him from other stuff, but couldn't find his name anywhere in the credits or on the internet. Everytime I saw that cleft in his chin, I could see him in other programs, but can't remember which!! Thanks!
This is one of my all time favorite shows!

I like this ep--it was good! Knew the killer was a chick from the start, you gotta be deaf to not notice those were heels clicking on the floor. But I was sure it was Jenny. What a messed up little teeny bopper! I thought. And nope--I never saw it coming that she was his daughter, find it kind of unbelievable they could have been living in the same city and he in (occasional) touch with his wife, without recognizing her as his daughter. Still, the way he took to her was sweet. Dunno how much I buy Dottie as the murderer but... never doubt a mother's vehemence in protection of her brood! And awwwwwwww! Baby Scotty. Loved that flashback, loved that cute little buck-toothed kid that was Scotty. So sweet, looks poignantly familiar, like the kids around here I see everyday. And Stillman "rockinĀ“" at the end was priceless. I thought the beginning sequence was pretty damn good too. This whole episode was of pretty good quality IMHO. EDIT: Crap, I voted "good" and now I'm thinking I should have voted "excellent". Oh well. No Rush personal stories suits me just fine. ;D Hope they keep up the trend for a while, ease up on her life for a bit. It's enough.

Even though I had to stay up till 11pm (due to some network mistake) I really loved this episode. I thought Hawkins was a great DJ and his attitude on one hand wasn't all corperate (one entree on the platter), but it wasn't "kvlt" (kill yourself because an album is heard by the mainstream.) I also thought that at first that Jenny was just a love struck teenager, until the connection was made that she was Hawkins' daughter. Concerning the White Lilly/Lillies - according to marriage.about.com/od/flowers/a/flowermean_2.htm and ... the white lilly is associated with the Virgin Mary; easter; purity; innocense. It was also once linked to the female sexuality. I think though that the use of the White Lilly is to counteract the Scarlet Rose. White is usually associated with purity, innocence, holiness; etc etc. Red is associated with blood, life, death, rebirth, anger, the sun, fire, etc etc...

A very good episode. Actually think I'm going for an excellent this time. Even despite that the motive might not be so easy to buy, but Dottie acted out of the moment and that I find more believable than last episode's plot. Think she just wanted to threaten him first, not kill, but she was desperate. As Duster pointed already out, you have to be quite deaf to miss that it was the sound of heels clicking on the floor. Suspected her from the start, but the other options had something too, I wasn't sure till Jenny turned out to be Hawk's daughter. And wow, they did some casting job with the characters here, both, old and young had some resamblence, they looked like mother and daughter. Liked the character of Hawk very much. Well, yeah, not a perfect guy, having a lot of flaws, but open minded and warm-hearted, a touch of lonesome rebell but loving and enjoying life. It was some twist that Jenny was his daughter, but a great story idea. And Rock'n'Roll music still rocks, doesn't it?! Lots of little main cast moments in this episode, stuff fans love to see, not spectacular but giving some information about "our" team. Jeffries a country music DJ - lol, but I can imagine him pretty well doing it, Stillman having a more relaxed moment with dancing at the end, Vera being proud to have done some impressive "homework" to solve the case. You just have to love these guys. Was more about the guys this episode, the girls were a little in the background this time, but it was ok, fitting to the story IMO. And like the storyline about Scotty and his brother. We get what we wanted, more about his family. Showing Scotty's more sensitive and caring sides and not that he tends to lose his pants easily. Some might know, I'm not a fan of Scotty and he got on my nerves occasionally, but this is giving his character some depth now. Not to mention, it's great that they bring up this subject of abuse of boys. They did before in cases, but making it a part of one of the main cast character stories is something different. Just one thing: Anyone else thinking, that the story would have given some nice connection to Lilly's relation to her father? But on the other hand we had some Lilly drama and it was time for a break. So didn't really miss it. About the White Lilies. Reverend already mentioned the general symbolism of it. It's a symbol for purity and chastity, the Flower of the Virgin Mary and some martyrers and saints. But some might also know it as flower commonly used for funerals. Myth have it that it grows especially on graves of people executed for crimes they did not commit or on graves of unfortunate lovers. Have your own thoughts.
