But I don't think Ray is the type to settle down , although he might care for Lilly it's a deep friendship but the real reason why they aren't together is mainly due to her inability to get close to someone

One thing interesting about Hollywood, is that they like to portray drinking *milk* as some sort of thing that recovering alcoholics like to consume. Sheeze.... Look, I went on the wagon for a while to control my drinking, but I just drank plain Coca-Cola to avoid alcohol...not milk!! Anyway... So we *do* know that Cold Case likes to touch upon alcoholism--there are so many episodes with alcoholics in it. So is there some significance to the milkshake?? If we assume "white" = "innocence" and "purity" because of the snow scenes, do we also extend that to the milkshake?? Because the milkshake *does* symbolize an important connection between Lilly and Ray, both after her assault at age ten, and Ray's assault in the present. Does the white colour of the milkshake indicate some sort of innocence and purity to the "Love" and "Bond" between Ray and Lilly?? Why didn't Ray do the "manly" thing and ask Lilly for a stiff Kentucky Bourbon to ease his pain? Why did he whimp out with a "milkshake"?? Hmmm..... Something to really think about, huh?

Maybe Ray knows that even he can't break her invisiable walls around her, that it is a deep friendship but she has changed since they were younger.

Sorry I haven't read everyone's comments. I'll go back and read then ASAP. Not bad, not bad at all. Actually got some tears out of me. Not the dripping kind, but the welling-up kind. These parent-children episodes really are the most touching, for me at least. And yes, yes, I'm sure someone's mentioned how strangely Lilly stared at the headstone in the end--I found it strange too. Although I don't wanna believe she lost a baby in her past, this may sadly be the case. I don't want it to be true because it's TOO much drama, would be way over the top for a non-soap, but oh well. Maybe she's just reflecting on her own family life. Maybe there was another little sister who died. I prefer that alternative to it being her own baby. The case was really good. Heartwrenching to a fault. They did have some booboos though. The progression of postpartum psychosis was pretty good, but I don't for one minute believe she could have had just that ONE moment of psychosis. She must have raved later on too. Maybe not when the police were there but afterwards. Psychosis comes and goes, but usually the acute psychotic periods last more than a couple of hours. Maybe she DID have more of these crises afterwards, but everyone just thought it was due to her grief. Anyway what I REALLY find improbable is how NO ONE saw her screaming and raving in the middle of night with snow all over the place. Pfff. But ahhh... creative license. The episode was worth it. And, man, that babysitter--what I wouldn't give to ram my iron-studded foot forcefully into her butt. What an insufferable irresponsible fool--cough syrup! Drunk! Just the thought of it makes me wanna wring her neck, and I don't even have kids. Same goes for the best friend of the year... but at least SHE showed some remorse. Made me wanna chuckle when she said she was "mad" at the mom (forgot her name). Mad, my a$$! She's screwing around with her husband and she's "mad" There goes another kick in the rump. But at least she grew up later and realized what she'd done wrong. Geez. As for the Ray scene... well, he didn't look all that beat up to me. Anyway, their scene was sort of poignant in a childhood sweetheart kinda way, and I would have enjoyed it much more if they hadn't been hitting the sheets last season, that's all. Them rolling around together was overmuch and killed any deeper sort of sentiment in my mind at least.

Nice catch LII. I just rewatched that scene from "8 Years" where Lilly tells Sally all about Ray. She tells her that she only knew him 2 weeks when she took off with him and almost married him in Knoxville. Definitely a continuity goof. I like the new story better, though. Sorry about the double post, but I couldn't shut up about this. Excellent catch, LII! They should have been more careful and made the Ray who was with her at 10 different from the guy she almost ran away with though. It would have served a better purpose. But that's just a detail really. Now if they make Ray be PATRICK as well, I'll be (more) annoyed. Don't think that could be the case, seeing as Patrick slept with Christina... no self-respecting woman would ever allow him back into her life with the speed Lilly did last season. It would be an unforgivable breach of continuity. ... And yet another edit. I must agree with Kadoom on her analysis of the "did Lilly have a child or not" controversy. She DOES seem to empathize (sp?) more with the child--with all children, actually. Never with the moms. Not till they've proven themselves worthy (Molly in this case, Rosie in Fly Away). I voted GOOD, not excellent, btw. But it was a GOOD good.

Another thing I had noticed, When Lilly was telling the mother about her childhood it had seemed to me like she was making some of it up just to get the mother to confess

haha, yeah it did kind of seem like that LLI2, and if it WAS true, she might of just had a hard time remembering it, or maybe she kinda 'choked up' and was trying not to show any emotions toward her life...?hmmm.. ;D

I agree with this sediment, DF. It's like they presented this possible relationship in the wrong order. They took Lilly out of character with this stranger last season, and now they're going back and explaining why she did what she did. Perhaps, different creative minds saw things differently. In any event, I like the way things are going this season much better. Giving Lil and Ray a deep history that reaches back to her attack at age 10, makes a much stronger case for Ray than her jumping on the back of his motorcycle outta nowhere.

I'm with you there! I think she was really overly forceful at the end. I mean, sure, the mothere killed her own child which just seems so painfully wrong but it was because of a mental illness.
This is great! Beyond great! I love the 'act like you went to McDonalds'. Hee.
Meanwhile... I loved this ep. Well, liked. The case didn't do it a whole lot for me although I thought the son; both as young and old; carried off the character really well. He was believable when he said he didn't even pick up his own baby, which made me really sad. I like when Lilly and Kat go do interviews together as well. Girl power and all that; but they share glances that make more sense than when the guys do. If you know what I mean.
Absolutely adored the Ray scene. Love him. It just spoke of this huge history that holds them together (and believe me, my ex and I have been hanging on and talking for the last four years because we came together when I was... Well, F**ked up at best... and you just don't let go of people who've seen you in moments like that) and that Lil can't let go of. He's this rock that's always been there, even if he's miles away. And come on, he looks like that.

My husband went to school with the man who played the older Devon.
This was a sad episode too. He had to grow up believing that he killed the baby, unable to hold his own.

Thought this episode was okay but thought they didn't need to have Ray show up or get hurt. I liked how Stillman looked at Lilly when her phone rang then when she's walking with Will, he asks, can't he just leave a message? LOL
