Good morning everyone, Hello, it's the Byrdman coming at you on this lovely Wednesday morning! It's hump day of the week! Are you ready to rock like I am, everyone? I sure hope so! Well, I got a hit on my TIVO this morning for this ep to be shown on Sunday March 26 at 7 pm (central time) on 380 (CBS East on DirectTV). I also saw this is about a 1973 crime, and that and the title brought up the memory of one of my favorite songs. I hope it is in this ep, it was released by this time - "Superstar" by Murray Head and the Trinidad Singers from "Jesus Christ Superstar." Just a thought. But take care, and have a rocking day today everyone! LILLY REOPENS THE 1973 CASE INVOLVING THE MURDER OF A YOUNG FEMALE TENNIS PHENOM WHO BEAT A TOP MALE PLAYER IN A HIGH-PROFILE BATTLE OF THE SEXES MATCH WHEN A TOWEL SOAKED WITH SODIUM NITRATE IS BROUGHT INTO THE STATION, ON "COLD CASE," SUNDAY, MARCH 26 Bill Eagles directed the episode that was written by Craig O'Neill and Jason Tracey. Lilly Rush: Kathryn Morris John Stillman: John Finn Nick Vera: Jeremy Ratchford Will Jeffries: Thom Barry Scotty Valens: Danny Pino Kat Miller: Tracie Thoms Andi (1973): Alicia Ziegler Eric (2006): Jeff Perry Eric (1973): Sam Murphy Bill (2006): George Coe Bill (1973): John Getz Emily (2006): Colleen Flynn Emily (1973): Haleigh Hurst Fritz (2006): Pepper Sweeney Fritz (1973): Erik Eidem Grace (2006): Mel Harris Grace (1973): Bre Blair Susan (2006): Virginia Morris Susan (1973): Lizzie Peet Julie Vera: Nina Siemaszko Arnold Brown (1973): Tom Wilson {edited in official episode info}

Coupla things: This is in the wrong folder, it needs to go into the 'spoiler' section because the episode hasn't aired yet. But anyway, great observation! I agree with you that this song would be nice to have in this or any other episode... and it would be very interesting to see them create another episode with religious connections.... I wonder what the reasons would be all about??

Sonny's right. This thread is fine as long as you don't discuss any episode spoilers. If you would like to discuss spoilers, please refer to the spoiler forum. Thanks.

I believe this is typically how Naj posts stuff in the Episode forum. If there's something that's still too spoilerish, one of the global moderators can edit stuff.

Hi sonny, TVFan and a2z, Hey, girls! Thanks so much for coming in for clarification here, and for all of your help with adding the details! I had hoped that I did not reveal any spoilers here. I just read my TIVO entry, and it gave the details, and I knew that Naj posted everything before a show aired like that too. So, let's hear it for Murray Head and the Trinidad Singers! Ha, I will like to hear "Superstar" if it is on there. Thanks again girls!

Based on a suggestion, we are planning to do a voting poll on this series. Hopefully, we can do this future episodes. Giving a rating of 1 to 5. I'm locking this thread until we do our poll post on this. Helloo CC fans! We are going to do something different, as I stated before. For each new episode, we are going to sticky and lock up an episode thread until it has been shown. After our chat night, we will open the thread for that new episode and you can make your choice of votes and state your opinion of that night's episode. As you can see, TVfan has set up a poll and description of the following episode. Since I can't do the poll choices on this thread, please indicate the following choice and your opinion. These are the choices:- Hated it!
- It was ok
- It was good
- Excellent
- Best of the Season
So remember, after you have viewed this episode, be sure to indicate your vote and leave a post with your thoughts. PLEASE NOTE: I will open this thread when Chat room starts.. Thanks for your patience.

I give it a 4!! I thought it was an excellent episode.. Gave more info on Vera and his wife. Talk about issues with women's sports in regards to Title 9. How this tennis player could have been another Billy Jean. It was that time period of Women's lib. It also kept to the issues of how money was spent on Title 9, more for the men's sports than women's sport. Which these government funds were to be used equally. Alot of suspects which went back and forth and I like that.

I give this one a 4-Excellent as well. It was just a really well written episode. Like Eurache said, there were plenty of plausable suspects that kept you guessing. I was so glad that Andi's father wasn't the killer. That would have seemed out of character for him.
I really like the cases that utilize well the year that they take place. This one did an excellent job with the famous Battle of the Sexes match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, Title IX and the whole women's lib movement. Excellent tie-ins and it enhanced the story beautifully. I also liked the way they had the tennis coach at one end of the movement and Andi on the other. It served as a nice balance of the differing viewpoints on the movement. There were subtle hints along the way that pointed to Eric (his constant coverage of her, calling her "superstar," and the way he seemed to own her at the alumni dinner), but I was still surprised when Andi's father revealed that the caller called him "sport."
LOVED Lilly's interrogation with Eric at the end. This was the first time all season that Lilly seemed like her old self. I love the way she always manages to maintain control, while still giving the suspect the feeling that he/she could have the upperhand. She does it so effortlessly through the emotional connection she feigns with them. I'm always amazed, and I think it's why her interrogations are always the show's best. Speaking of Lilly, was it just me or did she look fabulous last night??! Her hair and make-up were awesome! I just couldn't get over how good she looked. They should stick to this hair/make-up regime. Maybe it had to do with her turning an emotional corner last week with her interrogation with John? As I said above, this was the first time this season that she seemed together, so perhaps, her hair/make-up was meant to reflect that change.
Jeremy Ratchford gets major kudos for his scene in Vera's house. That was an amazing, heartwrenching scene that showcased how well this show plays honest, emotional scenes. Most shows would have brushed over the complexity of the end of a 12-year marriage, but CC allowed us to see and feel them all. Both of them seemed to be hanging on by a thread, but they both realized that they had disconnected emotionally and they were past the point of no return. It's a sad realization that a lot of people experience and I loved how that scene was filled with the raw emotions that go along with it. Letting go isn't the easiest thing. Bummer about the adoption, but Julie was right. Bringing a baby into the equation would only cause their crumbled marriage to break apart even further, which is not something that would benefit a child. Jeremy brings such a nice dichotomy to Vera. I found myself feeling embarrised for him when Julie dropped off his suitcase, even though I know he hasn't been the most faithful husband. He probably deserves everything that he's getting, and yet, I can't begrudge him. It's just a sad situation. I hope they show us more, but I don't want it to go down the same path as Jack's divorce on Without a Trace.
Overall, an excellent episode!

I'd give this episode a 4 [excellent] too. It was one of those episodes that was so involving that it felt like it lasted a lot longer than 45 minutes. I was impressed with the amount of Lilly we saw and I think the writers are very clever in giving us our 'Lilly fix' by showing her behind the mirroed glass whilst giving the other characters opportunity to interogate. I've noticed they have been doing this alot more this season. I agree with TVFan in that Lilly looked really stunning in this episode. Hair and make up just perfect! I thought it was somewhat symbolic that in the closing montage Lilly was walking and standing in the same place Andi was in the flashback when it was revealed that Andi didn't really have any friends. Kinda like Lilly; not really having any friends. Loved the personal focus on Vera and had a tear in my eye when watching the scene with Julie and him calling it quits. Brilliantly acted. Will and Scotty coming to see him at the end was so great. I know it was a guy thing but kind of a shame Lilly wasn't part of it too. The case was very good and I was guessing who the doer could be right til the end. Lilly worked it out before I did! Damn that girls good! The flashbacks were excellent in this ep, a bit tweaked from the norm; I liked it. Loved her interogation and again I would agree with TVFan about her attitude being more season 1 like. Really un-compassionate like. Wow this season really is recovering from the poor start. ;D ;D

ROFL Oh goodness. I just watched this episode a few minutes ago, and I rushed over here wanting to leave a review with all of my "original" opinions. HA! Sonny and TVFan, do I even have to say it?! Haha, I agree with everything you guys have said about the episode. Everything. I give it a 4 as well. So. That didn't take as much time as I was planning for it to!

I really should be getting some sleep, but this one is just to cool to wait for later: In this episode, Lilly and Vera go to the University's hospital to meet with Grace, the person they suspect of tainting Andi's towel. To give the viewers a 'sense of place', the scene begins with an outdoor view of the hospital tower she works in (which is the backside of this building). Lilly tells Grace that the towel was "soaked with sodium nitrate," to which Grace replies: "...and I'm Marie Curie." Well, it sounds nice and logical. After all, Marie Curie was a pioneering female chemist that experimented with using radiation in therapy. Completely in-sync with the women's liberation theme of the episode. But here's the 'inside joke', so to speak: The building you saw earlier for the outdoor shot is on "Curie Boulevard"! Marie Curie was given an honorary degree by UPenn in 1921 for her work in scientific research; and today, the UPenn medical school is pretty much built around the street that bears her name! When I heard that line in this episode, my jaw dropped...these writers really know Philadelphia very well! Follow this link if you're interested in reading more about women's achievements at UPenn. (I tried looking, but I couldn't find anything about a tennis match in 1973. )

Kinda like Lilly; not really having any friends. HEY! I think you're on to something here! Off the top of my head, I can remember Lilly seeing the 'ghost' of Colin, the 'mentally challenged' kid in "Wishing", as well as the 'ghost' of Angus, the kid that disabled his friend in the car accident in "Bad Night". Colin had very little friends, and Angus lost friends.... both were in their late teens, about the same age as Andi.... This could be a pattern you've picked up on, Sonny!! I think its worth looking into more deeply! Especially if this may mean that Lilly had very little friends at that age herself...well that explains her near matrimony to McRay, doesn't it???
