Ohhhh, I waited long time to watch Detention because it didn't seem interesting for me. Oh, irony, now I think it is one of the best eps of S3 Did you notice the way Scotty did "Yhy" after that girl said "I should say first I'm not guilty of anything"? Greeeeat...

Wow. I feel pretty much the way Ewka does. I held off watching this episode because it didn't seem interesting to me at first, but I totally connected with it. It's definitely going up as one of my top 3 of season 3.
First things first:
Brilliant bit of insight, Myril. Couldn't have said it better myself if I had a dictionary strapped to my brain. :smile39: My feelings exactly!!
I guess it helped that I was nearly exactly the same as these kids in 1994. High school was like that for me, lots of kids were into Nirvana and acted up after Kurt Cobain killed himself (I remember one distinctly, he busted up a coffee table at someone's house) and I was goth (thrasher, they called them at the time :smile25: )... anyway, I thought I was. :smile80:
I can't help loving Trevor. What a sweet kid. Sweet all the way. All the kids were sweet deep down, messed up but caring and lovable, trying to stick up for Dawn. And what a horrible mess that 2#%@# stepfather had made in her life. To say nothing of Boris' mom. Bad parents should be shot!!!
All in all, this episode really hit home for me. Well orchestrated, can't say whether it was predictable or not cuz I was SO spoiled, but I loved it--acting good, images good, music good, main character development subtle but good, and Kat Miller really doesn't bother me. She hardly takes up space. And my Lilly was almost season 1 Lilly. **Hugs KM and writers** :smile84:
Funny how when I start discussing the show without watching it I tend to get over critical and hate everything, but as soon as I watch even part of an episode, my CC love is back stronger than ever. :smile34: :smile37:

No bits of her past, but I don't need that every epsiode as long as I have the impression it's still Lilly's show - and in this episode I had no doubts about that. An impression I hadn't for a while. Well put, myril! Couldn't have said it better myself...

Ahh... So I see that this is the episode where the mysterious "Veronica" in Kat's life is mentioned. And she calls Veronica by the nickname "V" in the cell phone call too! That's rather cool. I guess the Cold Case crew are fans of the fans?? Did anyone notice that after the opening credits and before Vera and Scotty talk about the mysterious "Veronica", that there is a fade-in of a wide-angle shot of the Philly PD headquarters?? The camera is at ground-level, looking up to the catwalks.... And because of the distortion from this strange angle, the "Kat"-walks made a "V" shape!! Way cool!!

LOL!! And how many times did you watch this episode, Soccer?? Really, it's not that hard. It's just that most people aren't taught to watch television or film this way. But once you get started, you'll quickly learn to pick these things up.

Hello! Last night was the first time I've ever watched Cold Case, so this is my first time on the boards(Usually I'm over obsessing at the LOST & Alias message boards) But frankly I Loved last nights CC ep., Detention, so perhaps I'll be around more often I was wondering though, does anyone have a Cast List or something, I'd love to know who played those darn Emo-kids Trevor & Boris! I saw a list at the beginning of the thread, but I think someone said it was for a different ep. Thanks!

I watched this episode for the first time last night, and I'm finding that I agree with most of the conversation about this episode. Trevor struck me as a very sweet kid that fell into a rut and couldn't find a way out (at first). The best part of the episode, I think, was the portrayal of his relationship with his parents. This episode was very effective in showing that teens are invested and obsessed with things that parents cannot understand because they are not inclined to the same obsessions. When parents don't understand a small part of their child's lifestyle, like their choice in music or TV shows, then it is easier for a kid to dismiss it and still have a great relationship with their parents. But when parents seem to be against everything you say or do, it is different, and is more like the alone feeling that Trevor described. The fact that Trevor's father dismissed his interest so quickly severed their relationship and in effect left Trevor alone. The other thing that impressed me in this episode was the last scene. I have a friend that was contemplating suicide, and so I can say with great certainty that the conversation was very authentic between Boris and Trevor. This is what makes CC shine, the episodes that get down and dirty with real issues. With a lot of shows, the way they show certain social situations is as far from the truth as you can get. But with CC, a viewer can relate, and that is why it's so intriguing to watch. The only thing I didn't like about the episode was the distinct lack of Lilly. samanthalives: Welcome to the board! I think you'll find that once you start discussing the other eps with us, you won't want to stop. Here's the cast list (the one at the start of the thread is for another ep): Kathryn Morris .... Lilly Rush John Finn .... John Stillman Jeremy Ratchford .... Nick Vera Thom Barry .... Will Jeffries Daniel Pino .... Scotty Valens (as Danny Pino) Kristen Ariza .... Dawn Hill - 2006 Evan Arnold .... Mr. Monti Veena Bidasha .... Naya Nicole Dalton .... Raquel Montero Meagen Fay .... Julie Dawson Marty Lodge .... Principal Ellis Joe O'Connor .... Chuck Dawson Frank Panunto .... Drug Enforecement Officer Jake Richardson .... Trevor Dawson Nikki Robinson .... Dawn Hill - 1994 Virginia Schneider .... Earnest Teacher Wesley Thompson .... Mr. Phillip Hill Tracie Thoms .... Kat Miller Max Van Ville .... Boris Litvak - 1994 Michael Weaver .... Boris Litvack - 2006 Shannon Marie Woodward .... Raquel Montero - 1994

Caught this ep last night ... it was a good ep. Enjoyed the story quite a bit - especially the tie to Kurt Cobain. I remember being in college at the time he committed suicide. Even though I was not into either Kurt or Nirvana, I remember being really intrigued by his effect on so many young people. He was almost given this prophet-like existence by some. His tragic death left so many young people overcome with emotion and grief, which appeared inexplicable to parents, adults, etc. who just thought he was some "rock star." It was so much more than that for so many teens, and thus, I thought this aspect of the ep's storyline was dead-on. I did note one strange thing ... er, perhaps it was just me ... did Lilly seem exceptionally pale in some scenes in this ep? In the other S3 eps that I've seen thus far, she did not appear to be quite as corpse-like as she did here ... I don't know ... I normally am not bothered by Kathryn's beautifully fair-skin, but for this ep, I was like, "Where is the blush, Kathryn - was make-up in a hurry or what?" LOL! P.S. Loved the Smashing Pumpkins rendition of Stevie Nicks' "Landslide" as the closing song.

This is so tru, TruBlu! CC is so real, which is why I think it strikes such an emotional cord with viewers.
There were a few eps this season where I thought this as well, LillyKat. I think we came to the collective conclusion here at the board that her makeup scheme was designed to make Lilly look a little sickly as a way of reflecting the emotional turmoil that she was going through after last season's final showdown with George. After One Night, they seemed to restore her color a bit more.

I can certainly understand the George Showdown as motivation for perhaps making Lilly appear more pale than usual. It's really a contrast to the vibrancy of earlier eps. (Again, my curse of watching S3 whilst also watch S1 at the same time. LOL! Oy, I keep comparing ... ).

I liked this episode, but have two problems with it.
First, I dislike the stereotypical portrayal of teens in high school. In my 20 years of teaching high school in NYC, I have come across few teens who are as disturbed as these kids were. Yes, we have many kids with problems, some overwhleming, but this bunch would have never made it past the radar if they truly acted like this in school. Even in NYC where anything goes! And these days, most parents are a little more hip than these two were. Maybe out in some very suburban area this happens, but I think it was overplayed. Dawn was by far the most real. I've had students like her.
Second, why was Boris charged with manslaughter? He did not push Trevor off the roof; there was a struggle - AND Boris was hardly of the emotional state, not to mention of the age, when he could be held responsible for his actions.
Also, I believe that you have to be 18 and a high school graduate to work on a teen hotline, so I don't think that it was plausible that Dawn would be answering Trevor's phone call, and it is completely false that she would be able to answer his phone calls at a specific time each day since those places have one phone number, but many trunk lines connected to it.
I am juggling first season and third season. Can someone tell me who the new girl detective is, why she's there, who she replaced? I do not care for her much. Is she permanent?
