May has a line, "He finds trouble. All 'cause of me", then the camera cuts to Lilly. Lilly has a serious look on her face and then she takes a breath. Is this line a hint about something we will learn about Lilly in a future episode?? Hmmm, maybe Lilly caused someone to break the law for her which had bad conquences?

I loved this episode! The story was okay, but I loved all the Bruce Springsteen songs used in this episode and I loved how we found a little bit more about Lilly's past XD.

Seen this episode before and I liked to see Rita and loved Stillman's line about the dog getting the other eye and Lilly's reaction.
Rita doesn't even seem bitter at all with regards to John having an affair that ruined his marriage as we later find out in 'The Drive Thru'. Unless this was one of those things that was a plot hole discrepancy.
I thought it was an okay episode though but liked the Springsteen songs.

First-time poster, longish-time reader (I couldn't find an "introduce yourself" topic if there is one so please forgive me for diving right in here!!!) I've been working my way, as much in order as I can, through this amazing series. Somehow I missed watching it regularly when it was on (though the episodes I did catch I always enjoyed) but am LOVING getting to "binge watch" it now, a few episodes a day when time permits, in some semblance of order thanks to having been able to record 155 eps on TiVo (for some reason, "Chinatown" has not aired but that's an issue for a different thread). Anyway, just watched this and the first thing I thought during the last scene was "THOSE must be the photos by Lilly's bed!!!" that George referenced ... Since I know the best and most devoted sleuths and fans are on this board, I'm guessing the fact that that has not been mentioned in this thread means I must be off-base but did ANYONE else make that connection? Also, I remember people noted in "Greed" in Season 1 that the villain's license plates started PRC ... the plates for the stolen red car also started with a PRC ... wondering if they were the same plates and perhaps the show had a small collection of plates they'd use. Finally, so much of the plot and the scenes worked SO perfectly with the Springsteen lyrics used that I wondered if perhaps the original inspiration for the episode plot actually came from those lyrics and if, during the negotiations with Springsteen to use certain songs and have his approval, they requested some specific songs that they already had in mind? Okay. I'll stop now And hi!!!

Big Springsteen fan that I am, I don't know how I have not commented on this episode before now. With a lot of Springsteen's early works, it was like he was both young and old at the same time. I don't know how he did it, but he did and this episode seemed to capture that duality as well. How often does someone get to live their life as a Bruce Springsteen tribute?
Did the opening song not feel right to anyone else? I have been looking on some other sites. Some say that would also have used "No Surrender"; others said they simply would have chosen "Born to Run" as the opener. Personally, I think "Thunder Road" would have been a better fit. Something about those lines "Graduation gown lies in rags at their feet" and "It's a town for losers; we're pulling out of here on a win" seem to resonate with me every time I watch that first scene.

This episode is one of Cold Case's more creative ones. There's a melancholic theme of adulthood and nostalgia that plays with both the guest and main cast. I'm glad that episode ended with Stillman trying once again with his wife even though the episode hinges of the fact that going back isn't always a great choice to make (seen by the love square in the episode). I'm glad this episode ended like it did (none of the cast killing Clem) because frankly I would've been upset if it did ended differently [one of the three suspects killing clem instead] I'm a huge fan of the flashbacks to the other parts of the episode because honestly they're trying to relive something that can't be lived again. It's not as cruel as other episodes or even as historically poignant but rather a melo-drama about 4 high schoolers realizing over-time that life is not "fun and easy and right" Nobody gets what they want at the end (May is/was a prostitute, Petey was in jail prior to the episode and was a thief and Sally is all alone. (I wonder if the reason the writers have her working at a flower shop is to see couples in love but that might be a leap)). The detective's stories also coincide with the plot (going back to their old habits or at least reliving them [bar Valens who didn't have focus this go-round]. I do think this episode is one of the sadder episodes but it's not because the victims is innocent or the murderer is sympathetic but rather all the reasons above. The music is above and beyond and I love it. There's a lot of symbolism this episode as well.. The road being one of them; When we open up with the road bright beaming and seemingly going on forever and we end with the road is now dark and now there's no where left to go. It's a direct contrast with how their lives have changed in just 8 years. They have a car, they have hopes, they have dreams, they have each other and they have love. Now, nobody has love, and their lives are dull. They can't go down the road anymore (May has no car), and is now stopped here, in the darkness. Yeah.. this episode is sad, and I can watch it over and over again.
