I'm going to have to watch this ep again. (maybe will need a nudge) First I do like Bruce Springsteen but I don't find the one musician themed episodes attractive. First the music was too loud and I couldn't hear some of the dialog because I was so distracted. I like less music used per episode. If you are a fan of music videos to tell a story then you should like this episode. It just seemed like there was a lot of car driving and Bruce music. I'm thinking: "Would you do something already!" I did like the storyline with Stillman and I remember the actress (Laura Johnson) from Falcon Crest. I loved FC! So I hope she does return in the future. Vera was too funny and I hope he does decide to stick with some kind of diet this season. I think he's handsome to begin with and a perfect partner in work with Lilly as the lead partner but I'd like to see him lose a few pounds just because the writers have brought it up. Lilly and her cats was a scene we had on the S3 wish list. Lilly hanging out with her cats. That was funny. And I have no idea about Motorcycle Man. I totally missed the storyline on him in the House because many times I'm not sure if Lilly is really talking about her personal life when she is talking to gather information with suspects. So hopefully someone will clue me in more on this. This was a so-so episode for me. It's not the quality of "A Perfect Day" I prefer more on that order but with some personal tidbits thrown in like this episode had. And I must say I found it less than desirable watching basically a music video for half the episode. If I want that I'll watch MTV or VH1. And where was Tunnel of Love? I so like that song. However I do give kudos for a great ending song and montage for One Step Up. Great song selection and closing montage! I'm thinking S3 Best of Awards here for that. ~Naj

Ergm... please excuse the copying & pastings. I just ain't got creativity enough to write 2 different opinions on the same eppy. Each one takes up too much thinking...
Well! As usual when my expectations are low, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this episode was gonna be the disappointment of the century, and actually, I found it a pretty good one.
First of all, I was prepared to think (because of the people at the Look Again chat, huh, I'm giving them a piece of my mind soon as this is over ) that Lil hadn't really given anything up about her motorcycle guy. When actually she was pretty clear. "When I was 19, I took off with a guy I'd met two weeks before, biker, drinker... but I thought he was the real thing. We sat in front of the courthouse but neither one got off the bike..." or something to that effect. No hint-hint. Not bad. Of course I'm disappointed the story wasn't more interesting (as it would have been IMO if it had been about Ellen and Lil's dad), but I guess everyone's entitled to their puppy rebel love, and Lil's was kind cute... not totally off character. ShamrockChild mentioned somewhere she was disappointed Lil was still pining... but I think she messed up Patrick and Motorcycle Guy, they're not the same person. I'd hate her pining over Patrick. But Motorcycle Guy? Guess there's always a bittersweet relationship that tends to stick in your mind... particularly when it happened in your teens... and I'm guessing Lil hasn't had much love in her life...
Secondly, the video clip style didn't bug me as much as some people. I thought it was very fitting. Of course, since the whole episode was shaped around the songs, the music blended in perfectly (almost too perfectly) but it didn't bother me. And it didn't feel to me that the story suffered because of it. It was pretty coherent.
Thirdly, I really liked the characters. Awesome double-casting, don't think I'd ever seen older and younger versions so much alike. Plus, each one was really convincing in their role. I could feel for them, where there's been characters in other eps that have done nothing for me.
Fourthly, I really enjoyed that everyone had "their thing" in this ep. Well, expect for Scotty, and it's ok IMO, because he's had a lot more protagonism than he's entitled to. Stillman had his wife (loved that bit!!! She looks a lot like his daughter, good job there, and it sure looks like they might work together), Vera and his diet (comic relief), Jeffries and his football (very appropriate), and Lil and her cats (she was SO mad when Stillman made fun of Olivia at the beginning ).
Finally, I really loved the scene in the end where Lil pets her cats, all alone in her big bed with some dumpy pjs on. It's that kinda scene that I'm in love with on this show. Just normal, homey scenes... no embellishment. Lilly's REAL.

I thought this was a great episode and my theory was pretty close!! They nearly got married!! I loved all the characters, the music was great [even though I'd never heard any of it before]. I really liked the flashbacks and the whole style of the flashbacks [I'm thinking that all us lot making our music video's has inspired the CC peeps!!]. Loved the personal bits. Vera, funny as always. Stillman I just kept saying Ahhhh to and Lilly, well, it was about time wasn't it!! I just loved all the scenes she was in. Loved that the cats were around [although the cat playing Olivia is totally different to the 'Olivia' they had in the first season]. It was so great to see Lilly smile and look happy. She looked totally beautiful the whole ep and I hope this story line leads somewhere now cos Meredith was quite generous in giving us all that Lilly info in one ep!! Anyway for me this ep is up there with Saving Patrick and A Perfect Day mainly because of the personal stuff that was in it though. Can't wait til next week now.

Yay! After a day and a half of password issues, I'm fianlly able to post! Anyway, onto the episode.
I really enjoyed this episode. Like soccerulz, I was skeptical because I'm not the biggest proponent of the one-artist soundtrack episodes. The music usually bores me a bit, but this episode made it work. More than likely this was due to Meredith's writing-the-episode-to the-songs idea, but whatever the reason, it worked. I've read mixed things across the internet on the usage of the music videos for the flashbacks, but I liked it. Again, it's not something I would want to see every week, but it worked well for the ep. I think that's the key with any of these little tricks and devices - you have to know when to use them, and more importantly, when not to. CC has an excellent handle on this balance.
I thought all of the "guest characters" were well developed and very interesting. I could relate to the dreams versus reality stage of their lives. It's tough realizing what you thought would happen can't always happen as you planned. Reality sets in and takes control. I found myself feeling bad for each of the four friends. They were all with the wrong people. I think Clem and Sally would have been better off had they cut their losses and divorced. Clem was long past the point of no return in that marriage. I was happy to find out at the end that none of the four friends was the murderer. The whole murder scene went down in a very believable manner with a killer that made sense.
This:
Is the BEST LINE EVER!! I was laughing so much I had to pause the ep! John Finn's delivery was spot on, which made it even funnier. I just loved Lil's reaction as well. Awesome exchange!
The ending scene with Lil in bed looking at her old pictures was very sweet. I'm really glad they finally gave us a "lil-at-home" scene. I enjoyed her storyline with the motorcycle man. It seemed that she was running away from her suffocating family life and hoping for something new and better. I think the sensible side of her realized that marrying someone she barely knew wasn't the answer. She does seem to look back on him fondly, though.
Overall a well done episode.

Perhaps she looks back at him fondly because he did take her away from her suffocating family [for how ever long it was??].

Awesome KF! Thank you so much. I, too, adore Alona (how can you not love Meg from VM??!!), so I also enjoyed your screencaps from her scenes. I was happy to see her in this ep.

You mean her real-life boyfriend? Could be, but I don't think KM would mix business with pleasure. She's tried to keep her private life private as far as I know. So why stick her real bf in one of the scenes? (unless he begged her to or something ;D).

How come there isn't a picture of the MC man without his helmet on and if Lilly was supposed to be 19 how come there never showed that , was that a blooper or was she dating him in season two and made up that she was 19 to have sally say more of what was going on with clemm

Little by little they give us bits and pieces. I don't think they know who will play this mysterious MC, so therefore, the helmet.

The bouquet was given to Lily by Sally (the dead guy's wife who worked in the flower shop.) You can see her give it to Lily in the ending montage, so it's "part of the story" within the episode. Nice little touch that you see it on the nightstand by her bed later in the montage.
