Just a reminder that it's football season, so the premiere may be pushed back some on Sunday night. A good indicator is to turn on CBS at 7 p.m. (Eastern) and check if 60 Minutes is starting. If not, it and CC will be delayed (I usually monitor CBS to see what time 60 Minutes starts so I can come back in an hour and watch CC ;D).

Football ran really late. We won't get it on the East coast until 8:55 pm (EST). Have to wait.

Spoilers for tonight's ep. . . . . . . . . . . Gee, I need to digest this and watch it again. They had a new opening sequence but still retained some older shots of Lilly from the pilot with the rest of the cast with new shots. No more wet Lilly in the opening sequence. But the infamous parking lot scene from Look Again was still in there. One of the best shot scenes of the entire series) The case was interesting which is importatnt to me! They did begin where the finale ended with Liilly walking into the police headquarters with a newspaper with an aritcle about George being killed. The article showed his picture. Lilly threw it away. She looks worn to me in this episode. Her face is very pale and white.... Lots of changes in the way the detectives interact and collaborate on the interrogations. Vera was his usual hilarious self and he had the scoop on this Sutton addition. Vera: "This girl's going to be trouble." That's what Vera said. Mark Pellington directed this one and Meredith Stiehm wrote it. I think that's what I saw in the credits. The flashback shots sometimes had the screen split into four. I didn't particularly care for that. But it was a top notch episode. I'm so glad they made it right for Season 3 with the quality of their first episode. edited to include writer's name. ~Naj

First off I wanna say that Kathryn and the one who's name we shall not say looked great with their wardrobe and their understated hair. It makes them so real not to be all primmed up as detectives.
Great acting all around from the guest stars to the stars of the show.
The kid playing Jimmy was great and I almost cried when he was ran over at the end
The ending was great, too. I love the looks Kathryn gives to the survivors at the end, and how the victims look at her in appreciation of her efforts.
About "Josie chippy" "Jo" Sutton, I thought my girl the one who's name we shall not say did a great job, but know this was just a teaser of things to come. I loved how Vera and Valens snubbed her first out. And how Lily stepped in and made her feel welcome. I loved Lily's line about being tired of being the only female. Let me say that KM and SB are gonna rock. I can just feel it. Also liked how Will and Jo initimidated the teacher into confessing.
And I did sense some chemistry between Scotty and Jo. I know some don't want to hear this, but I did.
This ws a great storyline... well-acted... and the music rocked. They played Rick Astley... and Closed Caption said Genesis' In Too Deep was playing, but I thought that was a ballad, not a song full of guitars.
I'm glad this is a show I can enjoy.
But Vera better lay off Jo.

I liked the screen split into four I didn't. I must be too old or something. :smile58: I don't think he will. He's full of one line zingers that are uncomplimentary. Vera: "This girl's going to be trouble." Scotty and Jo eh? That's intersting. I have to watch this again. I always have to do that. ~Naj

Spoils the premiere episode . . . . . . . . I was so excited about this premiere, and overall, I'm so happy to say that it did not disappoint! As I've come to expect from the show, the case's conclusion packed quite the emotional punch---I don't think I realized that I had become emotionally attached the mother and daughter team until they were reunited, then it hit me good and solid right in the heart area. Add in one of my all time favorite songs with Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" and I was mush. *smile* Well done case set-up, with quite the panel of suspects and possible motives. One thing that I did think was a bit foolish is that I can't understand why the squad simply put an APB out on the white van and driver stalking Claire, rather than to set something up at the school since they knew that's where he was approaching. It seemed like a gaping hole in police work...or writing. I'm so glad that they kept the continuity from the finale to the premiere in terms of the George thread. To ignore it would have completely thrown me off since it was so mindblowing, but to focus on it too much isn't the nature of Cold Case either---just the right subtle reminder and nudge that Lilly carries scars but is fighting to stay afloat and go on, business as usual, as much as she can. I hope that it will continue to be a thread throughout the season, that it will still come to a head since it was loaded with implications and possibility. Hmmm. My jury is out on the unspoken one at this point. I feel threatened by her on behalf of Lilly and the team as a whole, whether I'm supposed to or not, though, so I admit to going in with some bias. Finally, Naj (*waves muchly*), at first the split screen and camera angles threw me off as well, but I admit that it grew on me by the end. I found myself looking at those scenes as ready made icons because it seemed more artistic somehow, but I don't know if I'd be completely behind it if they were to start using it for every episode, you know? ~m&m

Hi m&m, Yes, this is going to take getting used to. The Cold Case detectives are ambivilant about her too. I did notice a change up in how they have paired the detectives at every opportunity in the episode. Something they failed at terribly last season opener. But it came across much more naturally this first episode. They did a great job with all the changes this first one, they did and even had an interesting case. ~Naj

That's a really good point, Naj, about the strength in focusing on mixing up the team from time to time so that we get all kinds of great interaction on all fronts. This is such a wonderful, talented, dynamic crew, and it seems to keep everyone, characters, actors, and fans alike, on our collective toes to take advantage of the mingling. ~m&m

The ep. was great, though.. but Lil looked really pale and unwell! And I think there was too little abot the George-ting. Glad they mentioned him at all, but still..

I thought it was a good episode. Glad to see they opened with a refrence to Geogre. My feeling is that the writers will continue to use the incident through out the season for Lilly to deal with. I just hope that Lilly will talk to one of her co-workers if it gets to much for her to deal with.

Okay. Well, the season premiere.
I've got to say, that I was not disappointed. I really liked the case, and I was pleasantly surprised as to who the murderer turned out to be. I was thinking that is was getting pretty obvious, and then *boom* there was a sudden twist. I like that. While I pride myself on guessing "whodunnit", I like to be surprised.
I really thought the art direction and camera angles in this episode were really good! There was scene with Lil, Scotty and Stillman, and I just really like the way the scene was shot. As for the screen being cut into 4 during parts of the flashbacks, I didn't like it at first. But then, I really enjoyed it. I liked seeing the different things going on at once. Now, granted I don't want that to become a consistency with the flashbacks, but for this episode I thought it worked out well.
I thought overall the acting was superb for this episode. KM did awesome (hehe, but I'm partial), and I thought SB did a great job in her role as well. I like how the entire team isn't taking "Josie chippy" in immediatly, I like tension, it keeps things interesting. But I did appreciate Lily opening up and being nice to "Josie chippy" when Vera totally snubbed her.
One thing I was surprised about, was that Lily and "Josie chippy" didn't have many scenes together. I thought for sure that the "2 girls" would be working together a lot, and have lots of interaction. I hope that is true for the future, because I'm curious as to how they will get along. Vera was his usual funny self, (loved the wise cracks about Angie) and overall, I was pleased.
OH! I also was happy that they brought the "George factor" in immediatly. I know it wasn't really addressed a lot, but I like that they did something about it.
The one thing I will say I was a little disappointed about, was that Lily was not as much "the focus." Now, I know with the cast growing that is going to be much harder. But I was (and am still) such a fan of the "Lily-centric" episodes. I hope we don't lose that.

Overall, I really liked this episode. But, there were a few "miscues," if you will, that kept me from loving it. The case was excellent! The miscues came with the other stuff. "Josie chippy"'s introduction seemed hurried and forced. One minute she was introducing herself to Stillman and the other she was out interviewing a potential suspect. I thought Vera's caution was funny, but he was really mean to her when she was researching the registered vehicles. More on "Josie chippy" later. Another miscue for me was lack of information on Lilly's shooting. Like everyone has said, she seemed "off," and I assume this was a result of what went down in the finale, but there was no mention of her taking leave, seeing a psychologist, etc. I'm wondering if any of this transpired. I'm hoping that this will all be explored in future episodes. Did anyone else get the feeling that Lilly took a backseat in this case? I just didn't feel like she was all that involved, and I wanted her to be. I did, however, LOVE the ending scene between her and Claire! Excellent writing and acting, and it's going down as one of my fav Lilly scenes. This scene alone made up for the lack of Lilly the rest of the episode. I'm thinking that her perceived absence has more to do with what's going on with her emotionally, and less to do with anything else. If this is the case, MAJOR KUDOS to Kathryn for bringing this across in such a subtle manor!! :smile39: It was like we all felt it, but we couldn't put our finger on what exactly was going on with her. I'm looking forward to watching this develop. I might be in the minority, but I really like "Josie chippy". She's another smart, tough, sweet female detective. She's well written, and very well acted by the one who's name we shall not say. It was nice to finally see her on screen after hearing so much about her on this board! I like the way she brings a sweetness to "Josie chippy" without taking away her edge. Her past is just as mysterious as the others, and she seems like a positive addition to the team. I think her importance will be explored in later episodes (as far as why they needed another detective), and I think she and Lilly could develop a nice friendship (if they ever get to spend more than two seconds together :smile21: ). Scotty had the majority of this case, and he had a nice scene with Quinn. I really felt bad when the resolution was revealed. Jimmy was a stand-up guy. I know the math teacher was frustrated, but he took the life of a bright, young man, and caused Claire to have a horrible 17 years in foster care (Yay! Lindsey was back!! Oh and so was one of the suspects from Schadenfreude - I was racking my brain trying to remember who he was!). I really liked the reunion at the end with Claire and Quinn. They used one of my fav songs (Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes") as the closing song!! Overall, a very strong start to the new season and lots of things to develop for the coming weeks. It was nice to have Mark Pellington back as director. The four-way splint screen threw me off at first, but I got used to it and it was nice to be able to see both actors at the same time. One of the downfalls of television and movies is that you only see what the director feels you should see in a given scene. On stage, you are able to watch any of the action or actors anytime you like (you're essentially your own director), and the split screen allowed for more of a stage feel because we were able to view both Quinn and Jimmy (for instance) when she told him about her rape in the locker room. It was a nice change of pace.

i agree with you guys on mixing up the team and whatnot, but I felt that there wasn't enough Lilly in this episode. anyone else agree? Yeah, what you said. I like all the folks who have been with the show since season one, but I watch because I love and adore Lilly Rush. LOVE HER. The less of her, the less I am going to like an episode. Also, anything or anyone who takes time from her? Bad. I see no reason for "Josie chippy" on this show. That's just me though. I did enjoy the episode, just not as much as I have most other episodes. However, if this is a taste of things to come, aka less Rush more other folks, then I am not going to be too happy. Listen at me, this is the first Cold Case I ever complained about. I don't like it. Let's hope it is a fluke.

Thought it was a pretty good eppie. As a newbie I'm still trying to feel out the characters so far I really like Scotty Valens. As a the one who's name we shall not say fan I know I'm bound to enjoy anything she's in so Sutton rocked! Love seeing her in this role so far. I'm digging that she's somewhat playing a hardass and even more so since it looks like people are judging her by rumors. Right off I labeled Vera as an ass! Honestly would love to see Sutton and Vera continue to have an on going fued. Really didn't expect Lilly to be the one to make her feel welcome although I thought it was nice of her to do so. Reading the replies I'm assuming the screen spilts are new to this show. I honestly don't really care for them but I've seen be used in 24 and Alias so it's something I could get use to but I hope they don't use them all the time. Me too
