I thought this season opener was a lot better than last season. I did not like the 4-frame shot-sequence (I don't know what that is supposed to be from) because I found it difficult to follow. Not as dark or violent as some episodes. I really liked the non-traditional ending.

Me too! I thought this season opener was MUCH better than the one last season.
I was very relieved!

I was wondering how they were going to work him in, but I think it was cool the way they did it. I think it would be cool for them to bring back some of the guest stars. Not every episode (that would just get a little weird!), but if they did it once in a while it would be really cool. They've had some real unique guest stars over the years....

Jimmy reminded me of Lilly: no dad around, mommy not up to keeping a job. Then every scene, Lilly almost looks like she's just going to crack and lose it.

Forgive me for posting the EXACT SAME THING I posted on Source number 1. It took me a long time to conjure up and has pretty much everything I gathered from the episode, so please bear with me. Next time the original will be HERE, I promise. Woo-hoo!!! I've watched it . First time I ever get to watch it within days of everyone else in this board!!! Ok, so the quality was a bit diminished, as my computer is rather on the slow side... the sound didn't match the images. But oh well. I got to see enough. And I got a lot to say!!! First off, I have mixed feelings about this episode. I agree with Myril--plot was too complicated, too much stuff pushed in and mixed together, they would have done better just developing one topic, such as the teenage pregnancy and the boy's murder, without all that abduction, rape, adoption craziness pushed in. The acting was fabulous, however--it saved the episode. As well as the camerawork. I'm lucky in that sense, I got to see all the takes in slow motion (unintentional ) and they were REALLY great. Just the fact I noticed is something, cuz I never notice those things. About Lilly. She did look peaked, pale and a little blue even sometimes. I agree with someone on another board who said the photography director had something to do with it. Why? Because it wasn't only Lilly who looked washed out. You could see every spot and mole on all the other character's faces. The only ones who looked ok were Scotty (I guess because he's a shade darker) and "Josie chippy". Part of Lilly's look, though, I insist was intentional. Seeing the whole thing in slow motion, I had plenty of time to get a good look at her make up. She had blush in the wrong places and her eyes were outlined in pink. Now--I've done that (during my goth phase, LOL) and it's the best way to make yourself look gaunt and vampiry. Lilly had never used that look before, so I'm sure they meant it to show she was a bit more unwell than last time. If you look real hard you'll see this pink-eyeliner is also used during the darker scenes in The Woods. Only in the ending sequence did she look like her old self--maybe that was on purpose too? To signal that she was on her way to healing, through helping others? About "Josie chippy". Sorry, guys, but I really liked her. She seems unnecessary for now, but she was nice and very convincing as a rookie. Insecure deep down but pretending to know her way around, trying really hard to earn respect and get her job done. I really felt for her when Vera snubbed her! Oh, I love Vera with all my heart, but I can really identify with the rookie feeling, and being despised because you're coming in for doubtful reasons. They portrayed it really well! And Lilly's greeting didn't seem so much an appraisal (as mentioned elsewhere) but as a reproval to Vera. You guys notice Lilly looked right at him when she was shaking "Josie chippy"'s hand? As if to say--come on, guys, don't be childish, give her a chance. We're all grown ups here! It was all very believable IMO. I'll always like Lilly best, of course--she's my girl (and I'm her ho). But I think this "Josie chippy" character has a good future. No Scotty-"Josie chippy" chemistry, not to my eyes, at least. Scotty was just trying to be civil, I thought. Had a good laugh over his "ill-advised" comment at the beginning. He learned it the hard way, didn't he. It's true Lilly wasn't too involved in this ep. She did a bit of investigating, but mostly she had a sort of omnipresent Stillman air--watching everything from afar but only getting involved here and there. Hope she'll be more involved in the future, but for this one time, I thought it was ok. I didn't like the scene between Scotty and Quinn, when he's cornering her to get her to spill about her other "guys". Found it unnecessary violent, a bit unprofessional (I'm one to talk though--considering what I've made him do in my fanfic). One last thing... (originally made for this thread, LOL) While I agree Lilly seemed more fragile this episode, it didn't really look to me like she was gonna crack any second. It kind of reminded me of when you're really emotionally unstable and ever commercials can make you cry. I think she's at that point right now, with a lot to deal with--but not really to the point of emotional meltdown. Not yet anyway. She's having a hard time and dealing with it best way she can. And she seemed better in the closing sequence, like solving a case was just what she needed to make her feel as if she had ground under her feet again.

Disasterfreak: I loved reading your take on the episode. Like TVFan said, I think you hit Lily's state-of-mind right on the head.
Well, I watched this episode again at like 2:45 this morning when I couldn't get back to sleep. The first time I watched it, I was pretty indifferent about "Josie chippy", kind of "iffy" on how I felt about her. But, for some reason watching it the second time, I have climbed off the fence and I'm resting comfortably on one side.
I like her. I don't really know what happened to make me finally decide one way or another. But, I do. Now, like Disasterfreak, I am still (and always will be) a total Lily Ho (hehe). But for some reason watching it a second time, I think I was more focused on her character. I wasn't wondering so much what was going on with Lily and why she looked so bad (I had done enough of that on the boards! haha), so I think I payed more attention to her character. While I do feel that (for the time being) she is sort of unnecessary, I do like her.

"Josie chippy" looks familiar!
Didn't she play in the soaps "General Hospital" as the original "Carly?"
Sorry, but I didn't like her then and I really don't care for her on this show. I'm sure she will grow on me but right now, no sell. :smile44:
The storyline was great. I love to see kids re-unite with their biological parents. Even if they were put up for adoption. It completes the adopted childs life I guess. But lots of times, when they find their bio parents, it's not so good.
Kudos for this episode.

I love seeing kids re-united with their biological parents as well! Makes me cry every time.....haha.
And as for "Josie chippy" playing in the soaps, yup! I'm not familiar with her, but I think I've read among this board that she did play Carly on General Hospital. But, I'm sure one of the SJB fans will come along soon and confirm (or deny) if I am remembering correctly.

I'm glad to see many are coming around about "Josie chippy"'s character. Now let's hope the writers don't have her do anything to change your minds. :smile21:
Yes, the one who's name we shall not say was the original and best Carly GH ever had. She also had a 7 month run on As The World Turns last year as Julia Larabee. She also did numerous guest appearances in Primetime the past few years.

Haha, I know what you mean. Now that I've finally decided how I feel about "Josie chippy", I don't want her doing anything to make me hate her!

Great recap, DisasterFreak. I noticed a lot of what you noted but couldn't have said it more beautifully! As for the one who's name we shall not say on GH... she was the best Carly BYFAR! LOL! She was a b*tch with a capital B at times, but also vulnerable and complex to the point where even those who hated her had SOMETHING to say about her. She got your attention, lol... And I like "Josie chippy"... not because the one who's name we shall not say's playing her, but because I do love this mysterious air about her. I hope the writers continue to develop her character and unravel the mystery bit by bit. And I REALLY can't wait for the next Lily/"Josie chippy" scene. Like that, Vic? I didn't call her Jo. I love Jo better, though. Makes her seem cool

I sensed chemistry between Scott/"Josie chippy"... from the gossip scene. The way the camera zoomed in on him... something went on there. Then how he looked at her when she was grilling the coach. Like he expected one thing from her and got another. It doesn't mean romantic chemistry. But the chemistry was there, nonetheless. And later how he didn't want to agree with Vera. I saw something. It could be nothing. But it's there if the writers choose to go there.

There was something I completely overlooked this episode. "Josie chippy" was good with the killer at the end. She appealed to his emotions and his motive. Like Lily when she suspects the killer is in pain, "Josie chippy" reached in said she understood how he felt even though how he handled it was unacceptable. Perhaps Lily and "Josie chippy" will get along.
