Hey I noticed that during the ending montage, they gave us a "bonus flashback": A young Jeffries holding Nora (Tom and Della's daughter). I loved this episode -- Thom Barry is definitely my 2nd favorite actor on CC

Irishkale - Thank you for pointing that out. I completely missed it (big surprise, I know ). I just assumed it was her father, but I noticed in your screen cap that he is wearing a police uniform (smacks heads). I really like that they did that.

This ep was very good in my opinion. There were many suspects and I didn't guess who the killer was until right before it was revealed. Loved how it incorporated Lilly, Vera and Jeffries for different reasons. Very cool how there were flashbacks of Lilly when she was first assigned to the case. Kite was quite smug throughout this ep but since his screen time was limited, it didn't bother me too much. Overall I was glad they showed this as the season premiere since it's just been a year since Lilly was reassigned to the Cold Cases and it was closure for her in a way.

well, this episode aired here yesterday (finally!).
I was really, really enjoying it, until they revealed who was the murderer. It made no sense to me. I know he was on drugs and that he was messed up, but still, there was no motive at all. However, I was thinking about it later, and I thought it's a real situation. Most of the crimes happen for stupid reasons, and we hear a lot of things like that in the news (at least I hear, here). I guess it was so shocking because it was so real.
About Kite. I loved that he was there, I loved their faces when they saw each other in court. And later, it was perfect. It seemed like he wanted to ask her out again (to First Thursdays) and she totally ignored and walked away. Exactly what I wanted to see.
Last, about Vera's behavior... it seemed a bit out of character for me. He's not the nicest guy, but he was too annoying on that episode. Maybe he got angry because Jeffries was blaming him for the case going cold. I hope they don't make Vera the bad guy.
oh... one last thing. Lilly was so pretty yesterday! Even more than she was last season.

This was the same vibe I got Tati. I really felt that Kite was trying to ask her out again, but not in a girlfriend/boyfriend way. It seemed to me like he was trying to simply "hook up" with her. He showed his true colors, IMO. So glad Lilly saw through it and walked away. I hate when TV shows have a strong female who uncharacteristically just gives in when the man comes crawling back (for whatever reason). I've got to hand it to the writers and Lilly for remaining strong.

Well, I rewatched this ep again and didn't get anything new out of it although I realized it was nice to see a Jeffries heavy ep. Also, it was nice to see Kite again. I hope he returns in Season 2.

Yeah, i thought it was just kinda something to watch this time around. The only thing i really got from it was the preview for next week. Looks interesting. I wonder where they're going to go with the Lilly angle this time. Last time they did a preview with Lilly in it (Lover's Lane) it didnt turn out like it implyed in the preview.

Finally here in NZ we get to see season two, which was last nite."The Badlands" was a good episode. I never would of guessed the brother as the killer, he didn't really seem to have a motive. It was really sad at the end, but i loved the end montage where they showed the flashback of the Det. with Nora as a little girl and it made sense that he would see her parents at the end, as had a personal connection to the case. I look forward to watching it every week...

I caught the rerun last night. It was a little better the second time around but not high on my list of eps for the season. Maybe because it was such a slow moving ep like Red Glare. There were some parts of the underscore that I liked.

I really enjoyed this episode. Don't know if it was planned from the first, I liked the idea they brought up this case from the pilot and used some of the original shot. It was easy for me to figure out who the doer was because it seems no one but he turned over a new leaf. What an absurd reason to kill three people, especially his brother. I didn't feel bad for him. He was on drug of his own doing and he had a chance to give himself up to the police all the time but he didn't, knowing an innocent person was charged. Only thing I could possibly sympathy for him is that Della was trying to do the good for her neighborhood but she couldn't perceive Tre needed help more than Derek did. Vera was too annoying. Good to know a bit about Jeffries. Lilly looked prettier than she was in first season. She looked softer. Even though I already know what's gonna happen to them each in Season 2 and 3 by reading several threads, and seeing some clips and eps, I can't wait to actually see it. Love the ending song by Alicia Keys. About Kite. ;D My boy Kite. I Loved Loved Loved that he was there. Smug, pushy, what else? Josh Hopkins is really good at playing that kind of guy I think. Just because the case is solved, it doesn't follow that the way of their life affected by the case will easily return to its former state. It probably never will, but still, I can see the truth gives them a slight cure and hope. And what about Tyra? Is she going to break with Jammal? Guess not. Not everything goes well just as reality. The show pictures the background in fine detail, yet they leave us room to imagine. Although I usually get tired after I watch the show because sometimes it is too heavy, that's why I really like Cold Case, I feel drawn towards this show, and I continue to look forward to seeing new episode coming. Season two just started in here. More episodes to come!! No summer hiatus for me.

In my ten years of living in Philly, I have never heard of anyone referring to North Philly as "The Badlands". I'm aware, though, that in 1999, a North Philly-based cop show called "The Badlands" aired very briefly. Local residents objected to the use of the title, so at the very last minute before the series premiere aired, the title was changed to "Ryan Caulfield: Year One". The show lasted only two episodes. Apparently, however, the name "The Badlands" actually does have a Philly origin. It's the name that the Philly PD Narcotics division used internally to refer a section of North Philly. Here's a link to an article from Temple University's web site: www.temple.edu/MURL/JustinBrendan.htm (Temple University is located in North Philly, not far from this area.) Unfortunately, it's shows such as Cold Case and other media people that have popularized this terrible name for the area, not the local residents. *spoilers* *spoilers* *spoilers* A lot of you folks commented how the episode didn't "feel" right. I think I know two problems with this episode that you folks probably picked up on subconsciously. Spoilers, though, so don't read furthur if you like your virgin eyes.... Well, the first problem with this episode is that the Hollywood backlot they filmed the actors in just simply didn't match the outdoor shots they filmed in Philly. A lot of the neighborhoods and abandoned building you saw in this episode actually is what a sizable portion of North Philly looks like (and a good portion of South and some of West Philly too, I'm sad to say.). They showed a lot of two-story rowhomes in the outdoor "scenic" shots; yet the scenes with gangmembers had a lot of taller buildings and differently shaped alleys. That was definitely a very noticeable visual discontinuity. (Did I just say "scenic" to describe North Philly?? Gosh, it's getting late... ) The other thing is that the gangmembers, well... they just seemed sooo West Coast. Does it take much to recognize the difference between, say "The Roots" versus Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, or 2Pac?? I don't know how to explain it, but there's just a different feel between the two coasts that someone familiar with hip-hop and rap culture should immediately sense the mannerism of some of the characters in this episode wasn't right. Plus the clothing was all wrong. Look: Big white tee-shirts, okay? www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/special_packages/inquirer_magazine/13709856.htm No big logos, no sports jerseys, no puffy down-filled jackets in September. Just big white tee-shirts, jeans, and basketball shoes. And if you have to use a sports jersey, it better be a Philly team. Anything else is asking for trouble. I haven't seen much of Season Two's episodes, but it does seem that the show has taken much much more effort to get these issues corrected by Season Three. Vastly, a 1000% improvement than what I saw in this episode. I hope they continue to invest more in filming outdoors--on location--in Philly. By the way, since we're in 'spoiler mode' anyway, in 3.08 "Honor", there's a scene where Scotty is interrogating Ken at his security guard location outside the museum. I've been trying to figure out exactly how they did that scene, because Scotty is definitely outdoors in Philly, yet the building Ken was standing at wasn't the same location that Scotty was standing at! Was it good editing of two actors (and two stand-ins) at two different locations? Or did they have an extremely accurate blue-screen behind Scotty?? Hmmm... It would be interesting to learn someday.sorry, I thought this thread was in blue and showed spoiler

I know everyone is pretty excited to be talking about the new season, but I did want to say I got to see this ep on TNT this week, and it was really quite good. Vera was just so irritating in this ep with his stubborn approach to the case - like, he was right, and everyone else was wrong. I had never seen him like that prior. I was glad when Jefferies finally told him off. But when that happened, I thought it was tempered well. It wasn't a shout-fest; just strong words between both. I also really enjoyed Jefferies in this ep ... Thom Barry deserves much kudos. I liked how the case was personal to him, and yet he still kept himself in reserve (until the end vs. Vera). The scene where he helps clean up the blood from the crime scene ... I also loved the touch back to this case being the last one of Lilly's before leaving for cold jobs. The flashbacks were really good - especially the one when she walked into the restaurant and seemingly replayed everything in her mind just as if she was being called to the scene for the first time. And I finally got to hear where the "Homicide Barbie" line came from! The whole Kite wrap-up moment was a little anti-climatic for me (since I had downloaded that clip, so, I knew it was coming ... ;D ). It was good to see Lilly stand her ground and not succumb to what seemed to be yet another attempt by Kite to cozy up to her even AFTER the fact. Really nice ep. I imagine this was a good way to start season 2.
