Well I doubt that CBS is going to do anything about Pro Football. I think they could solve that by at least starting the first game 30 minutes ealier in the afternoon. I did find it difficult last year to adjust to the a show that is preempted. Anyhow, yes, this board does have a rule that there is to be no bashing of the cast and crew because we are here to celebrate the show and I did hesitate to say the show 'fell flat' for me. I was really surpised because they had the whole ensemble cast in there which was a brilliant idea to begin the show! That way there was something to appeal to all the fans. blankregus, maybe you could tell us what you thought were the contrasts of season 1 per the season 2 opener. I'd be interested in knowing it from a writing and technical style. ~Naj

Personally to me saying a show just fell flat to you is not bashing it, that is just an opinion and one that I like to hear. In all my years of watching tv I can't say that there ever was a series when all of the episodes of a show were outstanding, every once in a while you are going to find one that isn't as good as what you have come to expect from that show.

I'm sure there will be some good eps coming. I did peek at the "Spoiler" section here and some of them really grabbed me. I do agree we should be able to say and talk about the characters and the storyline-- how we feel about it. Good point! ~Naj

My goodness! I don't know if I watched the same episode as most of you! I LOVED it! It was very powerful, in my opinion! The acting, especially at the end by Derrick, was wonderful!
I actually had tears thinking that Derrick would not get to live out his life - and how he was trying to do better in his situation but would never get the chance to finish. Again, I loved this season-opener and can't wait for more!

I guess I'm in the minority here (which is fine, I like all of the differing opinions ), but I really liked "The Badlands." I'll just make a list of what I liked and a couple of things that I didn't. First the bad: 1. Lilly was hardly in this episode (compared to others). It was at the expense of the rest of the team which I liked, but the show needs to keep its focus on LILLY. 2. The killer was a little random. It made sense, but it just seemed "a little off" to quote others here. 3. There's no way Vera wouldn't have known about the original suspect's "alibi." That's just shotty police work and unplausable IMO no matter how "sloppy" his investigation. Now the good: 1. Vera and Jeffries were featured prominently!! I really liked the whole team effort in this one. It was nice to see a personal case for Jeffries since he knew the victims. 2. I really liked the victims in this ep. They were trying to do good in their neighborhood. I found the ending with their murders very sad. It was nice to see the daughter opening the restaurant back up in the end. 3. Lilly brushing off Kite was great. He was so smug, and she really put him in his place. 4. I thought that the flashbacks with Lilly were interesting. I noticed that they used some of the original footage and shot some new scenes as well. 5. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the ending song by Alicia Keys. Alicia is one of my favorites b/c of her amazing skill on the piano, and I just found the song so perfect for the episode. Changing gears here, but I found the Lilly/Kite scene a bit confusing. His smugness drove me crazy, so I don't think I was able to really concentrate on what was going on (I have it recorded, so I'll go back and watch it again). It seemed to me that when Kite asked her if she regreted it, Lilly's "no" was in reference to their relationship. When Kite replied with his "me neither," he seemed to say it on a much more superficial level and Lilly reacted to it. It almost seemed to tick her off b/c she left shortly after he said it. And why did he ask her if she had been to First Thursdays lately?? Was he trying to ask her to go? If so, I'm even happier that she walked off. Anyway, JMO

I'm new. I only ran into this site because I was trying to figure out what happened to the episode that was suppose to be on. I can't tell if this was a good episode or not because the football game ran late and 6o minutes was still on when this was suppose to be on. By the time I turned it back to CBS it looked as if show was on for a while because I did not know at the time the busboy also got murdered. So I guess I am going to have to wait for the repeats What I did see is that the acting was very good. And who was the father played by? I have seen him in a miilion things and can't think of his name. I think CBS was crummy in the way they treated this very good show. Shame on them. BTW this is a very nice site

I'm not sure if he was referring to the relationship or the break-up when he asked if she regretted it. But she kinda smirked or smiled so I'm thinking she thought it was about the relationship...maybe he meant the break-up? I think the question had double meaning, and they answered it the way they preceived it? I dunno...
But what's with him asking her about First Thursdays? That was weird to me. Maybe he was making chit chat or seeing if she had been out with someone? It was just weird but he seemed way too smug in this episode, and I loved how she totally just brushed him off and walked away.

Thanks melliemel. I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused by the First Thursdays thing. He was acting so smug that I wouldn't put it past him to have been making a fleeting attempt at asking her out again. What a cad! Anyway, welcome marbleann!! According to tvtome.com, the father (Tom) was Harold Sylvester. Here's the link to his work: Harold Sylvester[/b][/url]

Well, I don't think the episode fell flat, it was just weird not knowing which episode was going to be aired. I guess I was hoping it would be the "Factory Girls" instead since it would've been a much older case.
Overall, it was a pretty good episode even though I think there is something that is a little off. I can't pinpoint it but something's off. Maybe it had to do with the way the playes looked? This happen in 2003 and in 2004 a few of them looked like they had aged tremendously especially Joe.
As for football, well this really is a CBS problem not the NFL and I'm pretty sure football brings in more revenues than "Cold Case" or any other show on Sunday night. The problem is CBS, unlike FOX, has no half hour show on Sunday which is why things are off when a game goes over. With a 30 minute show they can make more adjustments to the schedule. I think if CBS creates a postgame show to 7:30 then a 30 minute show then things can go a bit smoother. CBS is either gonna have to move the starting times of 60 Minutes and CC or move it to another night. And this is coming from someone who likes to watch both CC and football.

I doubt CBS will do anything about it since the same thing happened all last season, I just totally forgot about it, I am not a fan of football so I didn't even realize football has started up again. That is what living in Texas will do to you, it is still 90 degrees outside so I don't think it is fall yet. Last year at this time I lived in Ohio and it seemed like fall. I appreciate everyone who has posted their comments about the episode, it makes me feel like I saw the whole thing. ;D

I thought the Cold Case was interesting and I enjoyed the story, even if it made me very sad. However, there seemed to be something off with the cast, they weren't as tight as usual. This of course happens on a lot of shows, the first few episodes of the new season are kind of a getting back into the groove sort of thing, so I am not paniced. Oh and the music was great. I got all happy hearing the Cold Case flashback music. It is back. It is really back.

Perhaps I was the only one who saw the whole football delay coming. My dad had time to take a nap while I worked on lesson plans. I thought the episode was cool, despite being only a year old. I didn't know any of the songs. Perhaps being 30 is finally getting to me. I did guess the final song must have been by Alicia Keys. I recognized her voice. The ending was another one of what I call, "I Can't Help But Feel Sorry For The Killer" endings. That final scene was sad. For some reason, I felt the episode was being rushed a bit. It was also a bit dark. Think what you want about the episode and keep this in mind; 2003 has been used up. This leaves the other episodes open for more older cases. Anyway, you have to agree, Della had the best line. I forgot it, but when she confronted the gang. Her daughter had a good line, "You keep sticking your nose in other people's business, you're gonna get it cut off." It went something like that. Doesn't quite beat, "You've been naughty Henry." Good nonetheless. Well, I gotta go watch CSI:Miami. Talk to you all later.

So I didn't have time to watch the whole thing last night, but I did watch it when I got home from school today and there were a couple of things I wanted to say. First of all, I really like the continuation factor (the homicide case being the first case we saw Lilly with) and I thought that as an episode, it was one of the better ones. But for a season premiere, I was a little dissapointed. I guess I was just expecting more. This was an episode you might see during sweeps but not as a premiere. I guess I'm just surprised because I watch most of the other J.B shows and all of them had great season openers. Some little tidbits: *First of all... and I'm sure I stand alone when I say this... But I loved that Kite was there. Yeah, I know I'm the only one who likes him but still, I loved that look he had on his face when he turned around and saw Lilly in the court room. So it looks like he's gonna be around for a while. ;D *Did anyone find Vera to be an A-HOLE! I mean, I always thought he was really nice but he just seemed like a total jerk in this episode. First he was cheating on his wife and then he just kept defending every action he'd made on the case saying that he knows he was right. Then all the comments about how it wasn't really an important case. Blah. *Lilly looked prettier than usual. *KITE! {edited word in post}

Kite showing up was one reason I was a little disappointed. I thought we were done with that whole mess. Did something change? Is he staying? (Nothing against the actor or the character, just that I was happy that ship was done. It was the only thing I didn't like about last season) If so, I need to start bracing myself now.

wow. this episode seems to be getting comments from awesome to awful... interesting... i wasnt fully awake last night when i made my little comment *blame school, will ya ;D* so im going to kinda revise... i actually liked the episode, a lot, but i didnt think it was up with season premier standards. the cast didnt seem to be unified. and i didnt really like the new direction with vera, he was kinda a jerk in this episode. however, i thought that lilly and scotty were excellent in this episode. yeah. i almost felt bad for derek's brother, although, i dont feel bad that he was on drugs. that was probably his own doing. lol i was kinda happy with kite there too, i wanted to see lilly kick some butt!! i THINK i got most of it this time...

I forgot to mention earlier, but did anyone else think that Derrick's brother, when he was all cleaned up in his Army uniform, looked an awful lot like Tiger Woods?
My hubby and I even checked the credits - it was that close of a resemblance (in our opinion). Just wondering if anyone else noticed this?

I re-watched the ep last night since I missed a lot (the confusion over which ep and the 8:26 start time threw me off). Anyway, I would like to amend one of my comments: After further review (i.e. actually paying attention while watching), I would like to give my whole-hearted apology to Cold Case. Somehow, I missed the part about Vera just arresting the guy. I thought he had been in the system the whole time, making it unrealistic that they didn't know about the robbery. The fact that they just arrested him makes more sense. Also, after thinking about it , it makes sense that the guy wouldn't have told Vera about the robbery b/c it would have incrminated him for that crime. I'm guessing that his lawyer told him it's better to go down for that than a triple murder. Anyway, my apologies. MrsB - OMG! You're not the only one. I couldn't get over how much that kid looked like Tiger Woods. It was driving me crazy! I'm glad you noticed it too. Oh, and I noticed a line that I had missed the first time. When J.T. Simms walked up to Joe(?) in the flashback, he called Lilly "homicide Barbie." Loved it! (Even though that's not an accurate description of her at all). Finally, I second OnebyOne...CC's back!
