Great chapter. I hate when Scotty doing that to Lil..Poor Lil..

For several days now, Lilly remained in bed; saddened by the fact that once again someone had left her. She wanted Eddie back, knowing that her heart still loved him. That morning, Lilly got up; shower and dressed before heading down to work.

She felt like crying, but however didn’t. That was until finding out that Eddie was helping them with his case.

Her eyes avoided him, trying hard not to look at the man whom she still loved. It had gotten so bad, that Lilly ran in the bathroom; practically crying hard. Out in the hall, Scotty met her as she was finally coming out, “I got nothing to say to you!” her eyes glaring at him, “You purposely kissed me, to ensure that he breaks up with me. I hate you Scotty!!

Upon returning, Eddie saw the sadness in her eyes. He felt guilty for leaving her, yet saw both her and Scotty kissing. He couldn’t fathom trusting Lilly again, yet it probably wasn’t all her fault, “Detective Rush, can I speak to you in private?”

Inside of the room, Eddie exhaled slightly,” I haven’t slept since that night, I still love you. After seeing you kissing him, I don’t know how to even trust what you say anymore.”

More tears streamed downward,” Nothing else happened, “trying to not become extremely dramatic, “I don’t have feelings for him, Scotty’s just my friend, you got to believe me, and I wouldn’t ruin what we had together. Still want us to be together, I love you.”

For a moment, Eddie pondered what she had said, “Just give a few days, alright,” seeing that she was clearly heartbroken and very emotionally upset.

When more than a few days had passed, Lilly remained saddened by this. She even continued ignoring Scotty’s calls, although they were all about the case. The hardest thing was seeing Eddie daily, wanting him to hold her in his arms again. She needed his comfort badly, wanting to regain that safety and love.

Even when he had brought take-out for everyone, Lilly avoided eating. This was hurting Scotty knowing that his baby wasn’t being nourished, “You gotta eat Lil, my kid must be starving in there.”
“No it’s not, already ate a big lunch before.”

“Could have told me Rush, I could have saved some money,” Eddie commented, which had her glaring at him, “Did I say anything?”
Lilly remained cold and bitter to him,” No but you broke my heart,” as everyone looked up at him.

He glanced over at the very pregnant blonde, “Like a word with you now Rush.”

Inside of the observation room, Eddie was furious with her, “You might not being so nasty to me, it’s over between us.”

“Just though that you should know before you leave someone that’s seven months pregnant!”

Eddie’s eyes grew angrier, “Not like it’s mine or yours anyway, that isn’t the point Lil; the fact is you lied to my face!”

“ I didn’t lie, besides you want to know if I’m with him; I’m not. Scotty and I aren’t together and will never be, maybe in his own mind we will; but not in my mind. I love you, he knew that!

Eddie slammed his hand down on the desk, “ Then why was he calling you then constantly?”
“ That’s a question that you already can answer, when I’m carrying Little Baby Valens whose kicking furiously. I just want to give birth already, I didn’t ask for this whole thing to happen, I just wanted it to be our baby!”

Her eyes were looking at her sadly, “ You sure that you can just throw away, everything we had together. I don’t love Scotty, or want to be a stepmom to his child. I want to be a mom to our baby and you one day my husband.”

That was one of the many talks that they had, as one month turned into the next. It was only just a day before Scotty’s baby shower. Lilly now found herself, walking down the aisles in a baby store, looking for something. Still she had picked up a soft blanket, and a tiny sports outfit, before paying for it. Once out, her heart had yearned even more so be a parent.

It hurt being now eight months pregnant, and not ever getting a chance to be a mother herself. Although she felt extremely maternal now, there wasn’t anything that she could do about it.

Next came on deciding what to wear, by now Lilly felt huge; while searching for the perfect outfit. There was so many to choose from, it complicated things. Nevertheless, she chose out a dress; which indeed made her feel beautiful.

Coming home, Lilly walked upstairs and into the empty second bedroom. Her eyes looking at the rocking chair, wishing that she was sitting there holding her own baby in her arms; but yet that wasn’t about to happen.

Upon closing the door behind, she exhaled deeply. Upon hearing a knock at her front door, Lilly immediately went downstairs and opened it, much to her surprise there was a dozen red roses, along with a tiny car. But however the delivery guy had delivered them to the wrong address. She would have loved for someone to send her flowers; yet that wasn’t going to happen.

Picking up the phone, Lilly ordered a large pizza with; Pepperoni, Onions and Peppers. After it had arrived, she saw back watching a movie while enjoying her dinner. However she now felt the baby kicking,” Just another month until you meet your Daddy, “ she told it. Speaking of Scotty, Lilly had wondered how he was going to be as a dad, to this baby.

Perhaps he would be fine, as her hand gently stroked her stomach. Lilly then finished eating before disposing of the pizza box, however she found that she couldn’t even get up off the couch, “ Great, “ she muttered underneath her breath.

To complicate matters worse, her front door opened as Eddie now stood there, “ Came just to pick up the rest of my stuff.”

“ Mind helping me up, kind of stuck here, “ she said. Eddie made a face, before pulling her up. For a moment he studied her blue eyes, before noticing her every growing stomach, “ Getting big there,” glancing over at the now empty pizza box, “ I can see why.”

Lilly gave him a look, “ Came here to comment on how big my stomach is?”

“ No I came to see how you were, I jumped to conculsion, thinking something that never happened. I’m sorry.,” his eyes looking sincere, “ I want to start over with you, I can’t stop loving you Lil.”

Tears rushed into her eyes, yet Lilly wasn’t the type that could easily forgive someone, but yet now she found that Eddie might be her last chance at love, “ How about we start we’re we left off, but all of this happened.”

He nodded before they embraced. Lilly calmed instantly in his arms, while still very much crying.
Eddie was just glad to be forgiven,” You really missed me?” hearing her laughing softly. Looking upward, he saw that she did, “ I missed you , what I did was wrong.”

“Forget about it Lil.”

Sometime later, Eddie was watching Lilly wrapping a baby gift, “ Let me guess, Valens is having a baby shower?”
“ Yeah, who would have thought, right?”
It was there that he noticed just how tiny the matching outfit was, before placing his hand onto her stomach, “ Hmm, I think it’s a girl.”

Lilly smiled, before growing quiet again, “ I don’t know how I’m going to deal with myself after I give birth, just feel so maternal, funny right?”

“ No you look more maternal now, you getting pregnant changed us both,” Eddie whispered, “ I just wanted to come home one day, to both you and our kids.”

Somehow the baby shower wouldn’t go according to plan, in fact it would be one that it would make Lilly more depressed.

Four weeks later, Lilly walked into a very lavish small catering hall; dozens and dozens of balloons were scattered all over the place. As she passed by dessert table, her eyes saw tons of cupcakes, pasteries and a very large cake.
Only that this wasn’t for her, but for Scotty instead. Upon placing her gift down on the table, which was quite very full of gifts already; Lilly glanced around knowing that she would have liked to have something like this for her own.


It was then she spotted Scotty, wearing a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. He appeared be working out more, due to his well toned arms. Upon coming up to him, he noticing that Lilly was about to pop, in a few weeks so to speak, “ Hey, glad you could make it Lil.”
Not once did Scotty introduce her, which somehow made her feel very left out.

She didn’t know half of these people, but yet felt now unimportant. Throughout the first half of the party, Lilly tried to chat with a few of the guests, but yet they didn’t want to converse. It was bad enough that the rest of her squad was late.


When they did show up, she watched how Scotty was a lot warmer to Kat, than his greeting to her. In fact, he then started introducing her to a few people. That hurt, knowing now that Eddie had been right all along, Scotty didn’t love her; he never did.

However when he finished introducing the rest of the squad, Lilly stood there almost ready to yell at him, but didn’t.

When it came time to open up the gifts, she sat down; while looking at all of the gifts. Her own joy, happiness and thrill of opening them would have made her day. Instead she was now sitting there watching Scotty doing that.
Her eyes looked at one of the lavish unwrapped presents on the table, that had several multicolored ribbons hanging down. Lilly yearned to pull it slightly and open up the gift, knowing that it had been a long time, since she had ever had opened up one.

As Scotty pulled out more gifts from the boxes, it made her yearn more for a baby of her own. Just by looking at all the tiny outfits, it brought upon more sadness. Yes, Lilly wanted to experience being a mother so badly it now hurt.

Five minutes later, he received a few toys, books and more blankets. However he had opened her gift last, which had angered her. She wanted it to be special, yet Scotty didn’t seem to be at all appereciated by it.

While several people were sharing stories about babies, Lilly wanted to also share hers about her pregnancy. It wasn’t a bad one, yet she thought it was important enough to tell. Just as she was going to open her mouth, Rosa; Scotty’s mother announced that it was dessert time.

Even with all the desserts at hand, Lilly didn’t feel like eating. She wanted someone to pay attention to her, after all she was the pregnant one. However Vera had noticed just how lonesome that she was already, before coming up to Scotty.

“ It be nice if you were a bit nicer to Rush, she is carrying your baby. “ Vera said.

Scotty glanced over at Lilly, “ Are you sure that she ain’t ready to give birth, Lil’s been getting quite bigger, these few days?”

Vera didn’t like that comment, “ No, in a few weeks she will. You know it’s going to depress her even more; with her not going to be a mother herself.”

Scotty smiled lightly, “ Ah she’ll be fine Nick, Lil will be back to her normal self.”

Jefferies now moved in closer, “ Scotty can I speak to you outside?”
Once there, he spoke quietly, “ You have an idea what Lil is feeling, her being here like this. She spent the past eight months carrying your kid, and you acted like you cared but didn’t. I know that you kissed her twice, but you do not take advantage of a pregnant woman like that; especially Lil!”

Scotty sighed, “ Then why isn’t she telling me that?”
“ You think that Lil wants to see you now, she’s close to tears now. This pregnancy was hard on her, inside she aching to be a mother but can’t.”

That talk didn’t do any good, and everyone knew it. When the men came back, they discovered that Lilly had left the party early; which wasn’t a surprise to either Jefferies nor Vera. Later on, while crying softly in bed; Eddie had placed something down in front of her.

“ I don’t want anything,” sobbing softly, feeling his lips kissing her cheek.
Sitting up slightly, Lilly saw that beautiful tiny boquet of pink and yellow roses in front of her. Eddie could see that she was becoming more depressed than before,” Your partner has some nerve, treating you the way that he did today.”

“ Just forget about it, Scotty was busy.”

“ No you know that wasn’t true, he used you Lil, “ his voice softening,” Right now I’m not leaving, not even after you have the baby,” which automatically sent her into tears. As Eddie held her, she continued sobbing, while fighting back the motherhood that she had wanted.

Eddie was downright angry at Scotty, in fact it was a good thing that he more common sense to stay with Lilly than to knock out her partner.

In the meantime, Stillman arrived over to talk with Scotty,” Saccardo just informed me that Lil will be taking her maternity leave now, she’s very emotionally upset. Did you take advantage of her, Scotty during the course of her pregnancy?”

Scotty shrugged,” I kissed Lil twice, “ which made the older man’s face flowing with anger, “ You what, you have no right to do that. Today just about sent Lil into a deep depression, she’s sad Scotty.”
“ Well not my fault that she ended up carrying my kid, I didn’t even ask to be a dad,”

Stillman’s eyes grew very stern, “ What I don’t get is that you told everyone that you were in love with Lilly, but that was also a lie wasn’t it?”

He shook his head,” No boss, I did love her but knew it could never happen. Lil’s happy with Saccardo, I want to see her happy. Maybe I’m not really the one for her.”

“ Maybe you should talk to her then, before the baby arrives. Even afterwards, Involve Lil in help you out with taking care of the baby. You also told her that she was going to be an aunt to this baby.”

Scotty sighed deeply, “ I lied Boss, shouldn’t have told her that. Lil’s already hating me, I don’t blame for that at all. I messed up big time.”

The older man could see the realization in the younger man’s eyes, “ Knowing Lil, she might not forgive you so quickly. I know in her heart she’s going to want to see your baby, when it’s born; not three months later.”

“ I don’t know Boss, I might be busy,” as Scotty now closed the door behind. Stillman wasn’t at all thrilled with his attitude, especially in light of Lilly about to give birth in a few weeks.

Maternity leave wasn’t at all thrilling to Lilly, whom was now very sick of being pregnant. Plus she felt extremely big, and ugly, and also driving Eddie insane. He couldn’t stand her house being so cold; due to her having the A/C , set on Full Blast.

He shivered before stepping outside for a second, it was already springtime and the temperatures were in the mid 50’s. Inside Eddie felt like he was locked in a freezer, upon seeing Lilly lying on the couch, sipping some cold lemonade, “ You aren’t cold Lil?”

“ No, just very hot. Plus I have this Valens kickboxing baby inside of me, kid is still kicking,” noticing that he was wearing a long coat,” What your cold, hand me a blanket.”

Just as he was about to do that, Lilly now ordered him to shut off the A/C, which was a relief,” You think this baby is going to be big?”
Lilly shot him a look, “ You questioning that because my stomach just happens to be huge?”, as she paused to try to sit up but needed some assistance, “ This thing going to arrive anytime soon?”

Holding out his hand, Lilly took it as the two went out for a long walk. Somehow they had winded up over at Fairmont Park, as Eddie now got down on one knee, “ Lilly Anne Rush will you marry me?,” presenting her with a large beautiful engagement ring

She felt the tears streaming down her face, before feeling a few more slight pains. When Lilly didn’t speak Eddie noticed that something was wrong, “ Is it something I had said?”

Something will, just keep on reading. Scotty and Lilly clearly do have feelings for each other, it's coming up in a few more chapters. This baby might make their love grow for each other even more, right now they are still fighting.


On the way there, the two got stuck in traffic,” Breathe Lil, you’re doing fine.”

Lilly moaned even more, while trying to concentrate on her breathing. When they had both had gotten to the hospital, her contractions worsened. Walking did in fact help her, since she wasn’t about to deliver anytime soon, it was too early for that to happen.

She breathed harder in pain,” It hurts,” feeling Eddie’s gently rubbing her back, “Breathe, it’s alright I’m not leaving you.
”
Just then Scotty came running down the hallway, seeing Lilly being led back to her room. Once she was lying in bed, he walked in,” Thought you were in labor?”

“I’m having contractions,” she moaned, as Eddie led the other man out into the hallway,” She’s not expected to be delivery for several more hours, but just don’t anger her. Lil doesn’t need this right now.”
Scotty pushed his way past as Lilly rolled her eyes, “Get out Valens, I don’t need you in here.”

He was shocked by her comment, “I ain’t missing the birth of my baby, Rush. I’m staying and there’s nothing that you can do about it.”

Lilly knew that he was right, but for all the wrong reasons, “Don’t coach me okay, or take my hand. I don’t need a liar telling me this,” as she felt another contraction ripping through her; while squeezing Eddie’s hand, “Bad enough that the baby’s going to have a father like you. Probably have your attitude as well.”

Just then a doctor came in to examine Lilly, as the two men stood outside. Eddie’s face turned very serious, “This whole birth thing is hard on any woman, but it’s after the birth that’s going to hurt Lil the most. She’s already maternal, is there a way that she could see the baby?”

Scotty shook his head, “Nah, I don’t think so. I want the baby to remain with me. Spend all of nine months waiting to hold him or her in my arms.”
“That’s exactly what Lil is feeling, just respect that. She’s already emotional and will be become ever more so afterwards.”

After the doctor had left, Eddie walked in and closed the door. Lilly breathed out deeply,” I forgot that tomorrow’s your birthday. Didn’t even buy you something,” her eyes then looked down.

None the less, Eddie’s lips kissed her cheek, “Doesn’t matter, I have you,” but glancing over at his watch it was already 10pm; one more hour to go before he turned 39. Somehow Scotty grew nervous, about becoming a father, as he saw his own father standing there.

“You look nervous, should be in there with her, “said his father. Scotty sighed, “I’d rather not, and Lil is still my partner and her boyfriend’s there.”

Ramiro nodded,” Are you crazy, this is the birth of your child Scotty. Go in there,” pushing his son towards the room; but could see his how hesitant that he was, “This is a big moment for you, go in.”

Scotty then got up the nerve and headed into the room, Lilly was now experiencing more contractions, “Hey,” taking her hand, while watching Eddie blotting her forehead, “It’s alright, you’re doing great.”

“Just want the pain to go away,” she moaned,” I need more painkillers.”
Eddie gently kissed her cheek, “Breathe Lil,” breathing along with her, “You can do this.”


However with the doctors coming in and out, she still wasn’t ready to deliver, “What’s taking this baby so long to come out?”

Scotty smiled,” I should be the one worrying about that,” feeling now extremely nervous,” Breathe Lil, you are doing great.”

Shortly after midnight, Lilly was now in the middle of heavy labor. As she continued pushing, Eddie could see the pain in her eyes, “Keep pushing, you are doing so well,” while Scotty waited outside.

His nervous had clearly had gotten the best of him. Inside of the delivery room, Eddie’s hand was practically turning blue, “Push Lil, “as she moaned in pain.

At exactly 1:04 am, a newborn’s first cry was heard. Lilly’s breathed out heavily after hearing the doctor exclaiming that it was a girl. That was when the tears had started streaming down, knowing that she wasn’t a mother. After the baby had been whisked away, she the continued to cry softly.

Scotty was breathless while holding his baby daughter in his arms for the first time, he was awed just by how tiny she was, “Hey you,” he whispered, while also crying softly. His mind thought of Elisa knowing that now their daughter wasn’t going to have a mother. Yet, Scotty was determined to be a good father to his child.

As he now had placed her head on his heart, the newborn instantly calmed upon hearing the sound of his heartbeat. In fact, Scotty felt so lucky to be a dad; while holding his precious little girl.




Things weren’t happy for Lilly, whom was now sitting up in her hospital bed; saddened beyond belief. She felt extremely maternal, yet felt more alone. It wasn’t fair to her that she had a rude roommate next to her; who also had a crying baby.


Just by the sound of that made Lilly eager to want to comfort this child, but yet had found that she couldn’t. Once again her motherhood was put on hold.

Eddie as well felt the same, he wanted today to be special; not just to him but to Lilly as well. He felt saddened that he too couldn’t hold his own child in his arms, “Want me to ask Scotty if he could bring the baby?”

“No, I just want my own,” her voice barely a whisper now
He understood, before holding Lilly in his arms; as she continued sobbing softly.

When hours went on by, but it continued to sadden her inside. Lilly now felt empty inside, while feeling overly maternal now. Glancing over at all the balloons, on her roommate’s side, made her feel worthless. She wanted that feeling of being a new mother, yet that joy wasn’t being felt. No, Lilly felt all alone.

Just then Scotty stood by her bedside, “Hey, how you feeling Lil?” his voice soft but was clearly over joyed.

“Didn’t bring the baby?”

He shook his head,” Her names Natalie, she’s beautiful. You were right about me having a daughter.”

That didn’t cheer her up at all, besides Lilly felt more depressed now,” I wanted to see her, I carried for nine months.”

Scotty nodded, “She’s in the nursery, and I think Natalie needs her rest. Proud of you Lil gave me a healthy daughter.”

Not once during the whole hospital stay, did Lilly ever see little Natalie Valens. In fact, she hoped that Scotty would call her to ask her to help him out. Yet the call never came, not even a week later. By that time, Eddie worried more about Lilly’s emotional state, “You have to get up Lil, and I know it’s hard.”


“I just want to be a mom, just want my own baby,” she said quietly. Eddie sighed,” We’re going to try again, when you are ready.”
Lilly cried softly, but knew what he was saying was in fact the truth. Yet once she had gotten out of bed, showered and dressed; she sighed, “Scotty hasn’t called, I told him if he need help I‘d be there.”

However Scotty was now dealing with a very fussy newborn, he tried everything to get Natalie to fall asleep with no avail. He was helpless now, “I know, I need my sleep too. You’re keeping Daddy up.”

Natalie’s cries escalated more, while didn’t help Scotty in the least, as he began to singing to her in Spanish. That also did no good, as he continued to cradle is daughter in his arms.





Just one night, Lilly came over to see the baby; as Scotty held a now very asleep Natalie in his arms, “ She’s finally asleep,” he whispered.
Lilly smiled while she gently stroked the baby’s cheek, “ She’s beautiful, can I hold her?”

“ No, I just want to be the one that’s holding her right now. Natalie’s been keeping me up all night, takes me forever to get her to go to sleep,” while continued to rock her softly.

Being that Lilly virtually knew nothing of what it was to care for a week old baby, she tried to suggest something, “ Put her head on your chest, it’s soothes her; your heartbeat. I read somewhere that inside the baby is soothed by the sound of it’s mother’s heartbeat.”

Scotty could see just how maternal that Lilly now had looked,” So Natalie was soothed by hearing the sound of yours?”

“ Yeah, although she kicked a lot.”

The two then shared a small quiet laugh together, “ Just came by to see her, thought you might need a hand”, now noticing that Scotty was indeed very exhausted.

Much to the point that just after he had put Natalie back down into the basinet, Lilly helped him into bed; somehow she too ended up falling asleep next to him.

This is a really good story, your keeping me interested by swinging it both ways between eddie and scotty. Its a really unusual story, well done! but right now i really want her to be with eddie cause scotty seems to be a bit of an ass! just my opinion!

During the course of the night, Lilly’s head rested on Scotty’s shoulder; while her hand rested on his heart. She hadn’t been sleeping properly at night, after having Natalie, though it was just merely worry about her. However he then wrapped both of his around her, while listening to the sound of her breathing in and out.

Scotty was more in love with her since she had given birth to Natalie. For right now, he felt happy to be holding the woman that he truly loved in his arms. Around 4am, the sound of a baby’s cries had awakened both of them. Scotty groaned as he got up before hearing ,” Baby’s awake, “ turning to see Lilly opening up her eyes.

“ You sleep Lil,” he said, seeing her now lying there.

She knew that she had to return home, soon, “ I have to get going, told Saccardo that I would be helping out for a few hours. He’s going to suspect something.”

“ He won’t, just say that your helping me out with Natalie,” while cradling the newborn in his arms, “ You didn’t sleep well, didn’t you?” speaking to his daughter.

Lilly smiled before getting up, “ I should be going,” before kissing her niece on her cheek,” Be good
okay?” she told the newborn,” Don’t give Daddy a hard time.”

Scotty also laughed, before the two were each looking at each other, with both love in their eyes. He wanted so much for her to be with him , but yet things did have a way of working out for the better. Yet upon moving closer, the two ached to kiss one another; but Scotty pulled back. He needed to do what was right for his daughter, “ Be careful Lil.”
She smiled before closing the door behind, he then began to warm up her bottle.


In the days that had followed, Lilly began spending more time with Scotty; helping him out with Natalie. Yet it was rewarding to be able to learn how to care for a baby, which was also good for Eddie as well. One morning, he came over without Lilly, to speak with Scotty, “ Just wondering what it’s like to be a dad?”


Scotty though wanting to sleep, tried his best to answer the question,” It’s hard at times, Natalie cries all hours of the night. I barely been getting any sleep,” while taking a sip of coffee, “ Wouldn’t trade it for the world, Lil’s been telling me that you two are going to try again.

“ In a few months, give or take,” not really knowing when they were going to actually start trying. It was a daily constant battle, whenever the subject had been brought up. Though it was merely Eddie’s own fault for even saying that, it was indeed too soon to be thinking about it. Just then Natalie awoke with a loud cry.

Eddie patted Scotty on the shoulder before leaving. From there he then decided to go running in the park; hoping that would clear this mind. The faster he ran, he soon was feeling a bit relaxed.

Lilly also was taking a long walk, trying to lose some of the weight that she had gained. With her I-pod blaring out tunes from; AC/DC and Pearl Jam; it helped her to focus and try not to think about all the bad stuff in her life.


However she returned back to Scotty’s apartment, but soon found herself up against the door; with Scotty’s lips on hers. For a few moments, they continued kissing before pulling apart,” What was that about?”

He smiled softly, “ Just wanted to kiss you,” as the sound of Natalie’s cries was now heard. This time, Scotty now placed Natalie into Lilly’s arms. She was nearly breathless, while cradling the newborn in her arms, “ Hey you,” she whispered, looking up at Scotty.

The two shared a brief smile before Lilly then sat down, placing Natalie’s head on her chest. She felt extremely maternal while holding this baby, “You’re such a good girl,” she whispered softly, while Natalie heard the sound of her heartbeat.

He knew that Lilly would have made an excellent mother, “ She really calms in your arms, probably cause she’s used to hearing your heart beat. You know while growing inside.”

Instead, she continued to watch the newborn sleep. It was amazing to hold something that had grown inside of her for nine months, although Natalie was just her niece; it still had meant something. When Natalie started fussing, Scotty gently took her into his arms.

One month later

While Scotty still wasn’t sleeping through the night, both Eddie and Lilly were having a mini-vacation at home. Both were underneath enormous amount of stress at work, but yet couldn’t afford to have a vacation. One thing was clear, they were going to try in two months to have a baby. However the timing for that would be a difficult one.

“ We can’t hold this off, we might not ever get that chance again,” she said. Eddie exhaled deeply, “ Look I never said that we weren’t but, you and I need time to do that. Time that we now don’t have, budget cuts; it’s affecting everyone on the force.”

Lilly felt frustrated beyond belief, “ Scotty had to leave Natalie with his parents, and head back to work. He’s not comfortable doing that, he’d rather be home with her.”

This whole road to Parenthood was getting very complicated, but she now was losing hope of having a baby of her own. While Eddie slept, her eyes continued watching his chest rising and falling, wondering what they future baby if they even were able to have one; would look like.

A few tears now streamed downward, as Lilly turned over ;crying softly. The night still had seemed long, before she finally had gotten up. This only awoke Eddie as well, seeing her crying this way,” Lil, “ he called out as she shut the bathroom door in his face.


“Open the door Rush,” he banged.

From inside Lilly, continued crying harder and harder, “ Go away, Please.”
Eddie knew that something else was wrong, and knew exactly who was to blame for this one. Right away he got dressed and headed on over to Scotty’s apartment. This time he wasn’t going to let this guy break up a good relationship.

Just by standing there, Eddie could see that this guy clearly hadn’t had any time to be dating, with tons of baby stuff scattered about the apartment.

“ Lil’s hysterical, locked herself in the bathroom. Any thoughts as to why she’s like that?”


Scotty shook his head, “ Lil and I haven’t really talked, been busy taking care of Natalie. She’s losing it Saccardo, I can’t help her with this. Not when it comes to her wanting a baby, that’s for you and her to talk about.”

Eddie wasn’t so sure about this, “ You still in love with her?”

“ Yeah but I’m a dad now, I need to make good choices for my daughter. Don’t even have that much time between Natalie and work, I’m pretty wiped.”

That was the honest truth, but Eddie also was extremely stressed out due to his job as well, “ Just don’t be kissing her, got it Valens?”

Scotty nodded before closing the door behind, he exhaled before calling up his partner. He could hear the sound of her crying from over the phone, but instead hung up. Getting into the middle of this would be the worst thing right now, especially since he didn’t want to have Lilly having another broken heart.

Three hours later, he heard a knock at his door; it was Lilly. She was pretty much hysterically crying, as Scotty held her in his arms, “ What happened Lil?”


“ Nothing I can’t take it anymore!”, as he then wrapped a blanket around her. She then let him hold her again, needed his comfort. Then as Lilly then sat down, Scotty also did as well, “ Can’t take what anymore, waiting to have a baby. You have time, just gave birth to Natalie a month ago.”

Lilly knew that he was right,” I just fear that now I can’t have any kids, then you know us. That kiss, Saccardo knows about that.”

He gently now rubbed her back, “ Wasn’t like we were having an affair Lil, but now I’m a dad. Having Natalie is the best thing in the world, the fact is you gave me a healthy baby,” his eyes now crying out of happiness, “ I want the same for you, to be that mother. For me to walk into your hospital room and see you holding your own baby..”

That’s when the tears fell more, as Scotty held her close,” Saccardo loves you Lil, he wants exactly what you want. We still can be close, I’ll never stop loving you, “ kissing her forehead, “ Mean too much to me.”

It was then that the two shared a small kiss, “ I just want to stay here okay?, she said,” Be around my niece and you.”

Scotty didn’t know if this was such a good idea, with her staying here,” Look I know that things aren’t that great, but you and him need to work this out. You staying here isn’t going to help the situation, I also need to sleep, before Natalie wakes up.”

Lilly refused, until he grabbed the blanket away from her, “ Go home Lil, I mean it. I have a month old baby who takes forever me to get her to go back to sleep. It ain’t easy for me doing this alone, you can’t come here acting like this.”

That’s when she stormed out, and headed back to her place. However when Lilly had gotten home, Eddie immedialty saw just how upset that she was, “ Valens told me, we’ll make time. I want this baby as much as you do,” he said pulling her into an embrace.

As he then kissed the top of her head, “ How about we try in two months, I want us to have that baby girl that you want so badly.”
“ What if it’s a boy, wouldn’t you want to have a son?”

Eddie now wrapped his arms around her waist, “ Whatever it is, I’ll love,” kissing the side of her neck,” Baby’s going to look just as beautiful as you are.”

“ It could come out resembling you,” she answered, “ Or a mix of both of us”.

Lilly closed her eyes, while still feeling Eddie lips kissing both sides of her neck. Before long, she was lying down in bed; as he gently massaged her back.

During the upcoming months, Lilly grew hopeless especially while watching Scotty being a parent. Just about every day, she would hear him bragging about Natalie. Plus seeing a few pictures of her on his desk wasn’t helping the situation at all. By the time, that her niece had turned exactly nine months old; something did happen.

One morning, the timer went off as Lilly picked up the pregnancy test; only to reveal now it was reading; positive. She was in fact; pregnant, but before Eddie came into the bathroom. He also looked at it, before his face turned into a huge smile,” I told you it would happen,” as the two shared a small hug. Lilly was now crying out of happiness, before his hand gently caressed her stomach, “I should make the appointment then.”

She then felt wave of dizziness coming over her, before throwing up. Eddie walked out to give her some privacy, but knew that Lilly didn’t experience when she was pregnant before. In fact, he was starting to worry more now than ever before.

When the door had opened, Eddie’s face grew softer,” Are you sure that you’re alright?”

“Yeah, just morning sickness, I’ll be fine,” as she put on her sports jacket, “C’mon we’ll be late.”

On the walk to walk, the two held each other’s hand. The day seemed to be a perfect one, especially now knowing that they now were expecting a baby of their own.

Once the pregnancy was officially confirmed, Eddie seemed to be more ecstatic than Lilly was. Perhaps it was because he somehow was thrilled to finally be about to become a dad.

Scotty also worried about Lilly, but didn’t know as of yet that she was pregnant. One night, she knew that she had to tell him. Besides he was going to be an uncle to her baby, somehow Lilly ended up playing with Natalie; whom was looking more and more like her father every day.

She also was babbling words in both English and in Spanish, “So are you going to be softball dad, later on?”

“Whatever Natalie wants to do, might be a soccer dad,” before scooping up his daughter into his arms, “But for night now, I think she needs her sleep,” as Lilly kissed her good-night, “Sweet dreams,” she whispered.

After Natalie was asleep in her crib, Lilly then decided to break the news, “I’m pregnant, “as Scotty turned towards her, “The doctor just confirmed it.”

He smiled softly, “Congratulations Lil,” hugging her, “How’s the nervous dad to be?”

“Not that nervous, Saccardo’s pretty happy about this,” as their eyes now met up. Scotty moved in, but it was Lilly who this time; kissed him.

The two then proceeded to take their time, kissing each other. Scotty wanted to so much to make love to her, yet he knew that now she was engaged. Besides, Lilly wouldn’t be the type to sleep with anyone but Eddie for that matter.


When the kiss had ended, the two just smiled at once another, “You ever think of dating again?” she asked. Scotty sighed, “No, I don’t know. Maybe I’m better off just being a single dad. I can’t find anyone right.”

Lilly could full understand that, but however once she had gotten home; she found Eddie inside of the second bedroom painting; already he was preparing the room.

“Already working on the nursery?” she asked, seeing him still hard at work.

He turned around, “I want it to be perfect,” looking into her blue eyes, “Chose out this color, “indicating that it as a light green color, “Since we won’t know what we are having, until the birth.”

“I might want to know,” which had him shaking his head, “I don’t Lil, I want this to be a surprise; for both of us.” Eddie was very serious about it, “This is our first child, and it means something not to know what it is.”

When the two went together for her first sonogram, the two were now met up with a complete shock; they were having twins. Eddie’s mouth had literally dropped open, while Lilly’s eyes continued to look at the screen. She could hardly believe that she was carrying two babies inside of her; but yet at the same time already loved them.

When it was over, Eddie gently rubbed the gel gently off her stomach; before kissing her skin twice. He still couldn’t fathom that was going to be a father of twins. Somehow he remained quiet, even as the two walked hand in hand, through a park. Lilly’s other hand was on her stomach, while watching other parents playing with their kids.

She then spotted Scotty playing with Natalie, seeing how fatherhood had clearly changed him, “Natalie’s looking more like him every day.”
Eddie also watched, before exhaling. He was still processing that they were going to have not one but two babies at one time. Clearly, his nerves had set in about his impending fatherhood; yet knew that he loved Lilly more than anything else.


Glancing over, she was glowing radiantly. Then again, Eddie now had to find a way to afford all the needs for their babies. Having twins had meant two sets of clothes; a double stroller, two car seats, two basinets, and plenty of bottles.

Right now, money was tight with all the budget cuts. Plus, the fact that he probably was going to get a pay cut wasn’t that thrilling. Eddie wanted to give his kids everything, but yet was going to have to work a lot harder in order to afford all of this.

Later on that night, Lilly turned over seeing how quiet he still was, “Why are you so quiet?”

“Just thinking about all the expenses, wasn’t expecting to have twins,” seeing her looking down. Eddie’s hand now rested on her stomach, “I already love them,” as Lilly’s head now rested on her shoulder,” Just that the money situation is tight now.
”
“I know, the babies can share one crib. Was thinking of asking my dad to help us out?”

Eddie shook his head,” No, we’ll do this on our own. Just means that I have to work even harder, but I don’t want you to do the same, as he now saw that Lilly was now fast asleep. For a moment, he listened to the sound of her breathing, before joining her in dreamland.


Somehow things went from good to far worse in the course of two months, by now Lilly was four months pregnant. To make matters worse, they still couldn’t afford a lot of baby items. However her father had ended up help them out, but that only ensued a fight between both Eddie and Lilly.

“I thought I had agreed on not to let your dad help us out?”

Lilly sighed,” Look where else were we going to get the money, anyways my dad is going to be a first time granddad, he’s overjoyed about me being pregnant. Why is this such a big ordeal, I don’t see any of your folks helping us out.”

That’s when Eddie had completely lost it, “Don’t mention them Lil, not to my FACE!” his eyes growing with rage,” Just understand that Rush!”

He then grabbed his jacket and left, leaving Lilly left to wonder about Eddie’s own mysterious past. After all she was engaged to him, but he never told her about his family. Did he even have family or was he all alone?

Lilly’s hand then went to her stomach, feeling her active twins kicking. Somehow Eddie went for a long walk, needing to clear his mind. He knew that he shouldn’t have lashed out on her, especially being four months pregnant. This wasn’t any of their own faults, but more of what the shape of the economy was In. Besides, they both had wanted to have kids for so long.


The more he walked the better that he had felt. Back at their apartment, Lilly was eating out a pint of vanilla ice cream, before hearing a knock at the front door. Upon opening it, Scotty stood there, “You’re eating that?”

“Don’t take a tone, I’m pregnant,” she said, “What do you want?”
“Just wanted to check up on you, my dad’s watching Natalie. Been worried, seeing how stressed out you is?”

As she invited him in, Scotty took away the ice cream, “No more Lil, you ate better while pregnant with my daughter.”

Lilly immediately snatched it back, “That’s what you thought, and I certainly ate ice cream. Doesn’t help that now I have two very hungry twins, see their kicking,” placing his hand onto her stomach.

Scotty was awed by this, but had noticed that she felt happy while
pregnant, “You’ve always looked beautiful while pregnant Lil.”

“What I don’t look beautiful when I’m not?”She teased. Scotty smiled,” No you are beautiful Lil, so where’s the nervous dad?”

She sighed, “We had a fight, and Eddie went out for a walk. He’s stressed out, and got mad when I told him that my father was helping us out.”

He could full understand, “My parents helped me out, sometimes it’s a good thing. Saccardo’s as nervous as I was. Worrying constantly, I’m glad that I’m a dad now,” taking Lilly’s hand into his; before the two then shared yet another kiss.

Lilly closed her eyes, enjoying their kiss; needing to feel loved right now. Even after the kiss, Scotty lovingly pushed several tendrils of hair away from her face, “I better go, “glancing at his watch, before kissing her cheek.

“No stay, we still have to speak about the case,” which made Scotty seemed hesitant about,” Uh, I don’t think that we should,” following her into the kitchen.

Somehow he wrapped his arms around her, before kissing the sides of her neck. Lilly felt each of his kisses, “Scotty, please stop,” before turning away.

He knew that it was wrong, “Sorry, just felt romantic. I better get going, see you tomorrow.”


Shortly after he had left, Lilly went upstairs and got into bed. She was pretty much tired, but yet the twins were still actively stirring inside, as Eddie now handed her a dozen roses, “I’m sorry, for what happened before.”

The roses were a deepest red color, with some pink and white ones mixed in, before pulling out a box; inside was a gold heart shaped necklace. Her eyes filled with joy, as Eddie now clasped it around her neck; before the two shared a kiss, “I love you,” she whispered.

As Lilly now laid back, Eddie then leaned down, “ I love you both,” kissing her stomach,” You two need to stop kicking, Mommy needs to sleep,” while rubbing Lilly’s abdomen. Just by feel this, instantly soothed her. Before long, she was now fast asleep.

Two weeks later, they had yet another fight. This time, Eddie again had caused it, but Lilly had quite enough, “You apologized to me a few weeks ago, and then do it again. What’s gotten into you, and don’t tell me it’s because I’m pregnant.”

Eddie breathed out before telling her the truth,” I don’t really have a family, came from not a good one. Just want to be a better dad than mine was,” but knew that Lilly could understand.

“Why didn’t just tell me this, I was afraid that I’d be like my mom. I know that I won’t, I’m nothing like her,” she said, “Besides we both are meant to be parents.”

“You to stop letting Scotty kiss you, I feel that one dad you are going to leave him for me. I don’t want that to happen, you belong with me,” his eyes telling her the absolute truth, “I don’t like when he tells you that he loves you.”

Lilly breathed out,” I’ve told him, but leaving you is out of the question,” however Eddie wasn’t convinced, “ How many times have you even slept with him?”

“What are you implying Saccardo, that I’m having an affair. Scotty and I do not have that type of relationship; we just have a close friendship. We’ve been partners for seven years now.”

The look in Eddie’s eyes told her that he wasn’t believing her for a second, “I go over there to visit my niece, I am Natalie’s aunt!”

Eddie’s face remained angry, “You are a liar Rush, especially since you lied in front of our kids!” before storming upstairs. When he came down, Lilly saw that he was leaving. Once Eddie had slammed the door behind, Lilly broke down in tears.

She knew that she would never cheat on him, what hurt the most was the fact that Lilly was now almost five months along, and alone now. Somehow Eddie didn’t call or swing by to see her; in addition he also took her engagement ring with him.

Furthermore, Eddie also didn’t show when Lilly went for her latest sonogram appointment. During that, she felt saddened knowing that the twins needed their father. Just by hearing their two quickened heartbeats, more tears came streaming out of her eyes.
