However Eddie was keeping a secret from Lilly, they were having a baby of their own after all. Except that somehow now had happened He knew that he had to break this solemn news to her, but yet couldn’t fathom that this was real. His own baby was gone; a baby daughter that he had wanted so much.

When he saw Lilly’s hand caressing her stomach, Eddie felt like crying, “We need to talk, it’s important.”

Sitting her down, Eddie took her hand into his, “I received a call, our baby was being a carried by someone else. Then something happened, and it’s gone,” his heart now was completely breaking. He mourned the death of their baby that he loved so much, “Nobody knows, but it just died.”

Lilly felt her own tears streaming downward, as Eddie held her in his arms. He too was hurting badly, “It’s nothing that you and I had done.”
She cried harder, “What was it?” He exhaled softly, “A baby girl; our baby girl.”

This automatically sent more waves of tears streaming down her face; she wanted so much to have been able to save their daughter. Now she was gone, away from the two of them. Lilly could feel the chances of the motherhood that she had wanted so much; now slipping away for good. Eddie too felt it as well, “The couple that were carrying our child, sent us a letter.”

She didn’t want to read it, but now continue to lie in bed. Eddie felt sick to his stomach over losing their unborn baby daughter, “We could name her, so that she has a name.”

“What’s the point, she never got to be born,” her voice cracked. He felt the need to do so, “Maybe she was sick Lil, could have been far worse if she had been born. Could have been born in pain; a pain that you and I couldn’t soothe away.”

Lilly cried even harder now, but Eddie knew why she was crying like that, “You didn’t do anything, there’s nothing wrong with you, and “his own tears were streaming down, “She knows now that both you and I love her. We’re never going to stop loving her.”

For the next couple of days, Lilly remained in bed. Although she could feel her niece or nephew kicking inside, she just didn’t care. Her own child was gone, which took away every single ounce of hope she had to become a mother. Even Scotty was now worried, as he gently touched her stomach, “I’m here little one, “he said, “I love you.”

These made her cry even more, just hearing her partner speaking to his unborn baby. Sitting down on the bed, Scotty touched the side of Lilly’s cheek, “Hey, I’m sorry Lil. You didn’t deserve this to happen, you still have a chance. You can’t give up, things happen. It doesn’t make you any less of a person or a mother, you will always be that to her.”
“I’m not a mom Scotty, “she sobbed, and “I never was and never will be.”

Scotty pulled her into an embrace, “That love you have will never go away, but Saccardo’s hurting as well. He wants to be a dad so badly, and now hearing this is breaking him. I’m not going to prevent you from seeing the baby once it’s born; besides you’re a special aunt.”

“Special Aunt, I never heard of that?”

He smiled, “Your special because you gave birth to my child, gave me a reason to add more happiness to my life.”

She did feel a bit better, “It still won’t feel the same Scotty, and I’ll still be yearning to be a mom. To hold my own child in my arms and love it. “
That was to be expected as Scotty gently placed his hand on her stomach, “Still have a lot to learn about being a father, but maybe you can help me. “


Lilly groaned before getting up to use the bathroom, as yet another craving set in. She was also much crankier than ever, “Doesn’t help that I’m so hungry, and I feel fat,” causing him laugh as Lilly made her way back to the bed.

“Don’t laugh Valens, don’t see you pregnant.”

As much as Scotty had tried to bring forth a smile onto her face, he knew that she was feeling extremely saddened inside. That night, Eddie gave her yet another back massage, “We’re going to try again, I can’t give up on us having a baby; our baby.”

She sighed loudly, “We had our chance, and it didn’t make it.”
“You and I won’t feel complete until we have a family of our own, I can’t grow older without having a child of my own.”

However Lilly continued to feel lousy very well into her sixth month..

Eddie knew that he couldn’t soothe Lilly’s pain away or his for that matter. Losing their unborn baby was hard enough, but despite this; he still loved seeing her being pregnant. He had been reading up about its development and was amazed by it, although he still hoped for another chance to have a child of his own.

Downtown, as Scotty was coming out of the kitchen, he saw Lilly sitting on the couch wearing a pair of ear phones while something rested on her stomach, “Listening to something?”
Her face lit up, as she put the headphones on him. Right away Scotty heard a galloping sound, knowing that it was his baby’s heartbeat. The sound delighted him, “Wow, “his whispered. While she moved the monitor around her stomach, Scotty continued listening.
Afterwards, he then rested his hand there, while the two studied the development of his child. It seemed pretty odd to him, but yet a surreal feeling, “Seems like it has hiccups all the time?”
“Not all the time, it tends to kick more at night. Plus I’m craving some pretty odd stuff, it’s driving Saccardo nuts. He hates running out in the middle of the night to get it.”

Scotty chucked in amusement, “Like what?” Lilly exhaled, “Last night I wanted to dip some carrots into a jar of cold salsa. Plus you know those popsicles the ones that are made with real pudding; I think they are called; Pudding Pops, I practically ate the whole entire box.”
“No,” he teased, “You actually did Lil, that carrot thing was strange, what else?”
Lilly smiled, “You actually want to know,” seeing the look on his face,” I was putting ketchup and mustard on a Philly Cheese steak, which almost had Saccardo puking.”

He continued laughing softly, “At least I know that my kid is eating, you look good Lil. What’s up with you taking that stretching class?”
“C’mon I’ll show you how to do yoga, “as Scotty made a face. He refused to want to lean, “Nah I’m good, ain’t into yoga.”
It was amusing to see how he wasn’t into a lot of things; however that’s when he had kissed her cheek. Lilly felt immediate uncomfortable, especially in light of everything. Scotty knew it was wrong, “I didn’t mean it that way, I just feel a lot closer to you. Maybe it’s because you are carrying my kid.”
Still he knew that she was with Eddie, whom loved her so much. Getting up, Lilly left to head on home, she still felt embarrassed by what her partner had done. Was he falling in love with her, or was this just because she was pregnant? Lilly knew it had to be because of her pregnancy; Scotty would never kiss her for any kind of reason.

However she had no idea that he was really in love with her. As Lilly walked into her bedroom, she changed into a pair of pajamas before climbing into bed. Taking out the monitor, she listened the sound of the baby’s heartbeat. It was amazing to hear that, but it also made her yearn to have her own baby as well.

A few minutes later, Eddie had joined in bed, as she placed the headphones on him. His face turned paternal while hearing that sound. His eyes staring at her swelling abdomen, while he thought of holding his own child in his arms, flashed through his mind.

Once that the object was turned off, Eddie lifted up her shirt, exposing just her stomach; as he began to rub warm lotion all over it, “ I’m going to have a hard time, after you give birth. I don’t know what to do, been having those dreams of having a kid of our own so many times.”
“I know what you are feeling; it feels empty without a baby. It be nice if ours had lived, we are going to try again, “she said squeezing his hand, “We’re both not going to give up.”

As she then snuggled against him, the two fell asleep while Scotty remained awake. He thought about the kiss, but there was no way that she’d ever be with him. Was there, and if so did Lilly even feel the same? He didn’t think so but first things first; Scotty main priority was on the impeding birth of his baby in three months.

Love could wait could it?

Scotty had been growing pretty close to Lilly, since she had first had gotten pregnant with his child. He also was falling in love with her as well, but knew that her heart was still with Eddie. The kiss did in fact, mean something especially to him. Although he had no clue if Lilly was still thinking about the kiss, he was.

He loved Lilly but perhaps it was the fact that his heart was in the right place at the wrong time. One night while she was finishing up working on the nursery, Scotty stood in the doorway, “Lil, we need to talk about you know that?”

“It didn’t mean anything,” she said, “Besides you kissed me on my cheek, “not noticing that he was now standing very close to her. Just as she turned, Scotty then proceeded to kiss her on her lips, but somehow the two continued kissing each other. When it was over, Lilly was breathless, “Do not say anything about this, not even to Saccardo!”

Scotty nodded in agreement,” Just wanted to kiss you Lil, I love you, “which had her glaring at him, “I know you are with him.”
“Yeah that reminds me, I have to leave. He’s waiting up for me.”
As soon as she had left, Scotty stood there wishing that somehow they could be together. This kiss had proved that he loved her, yet Lilly wasn’t willing to leave Eddie. Their relationship was one that was unique but very strong.

On the walk home, she thought about the kiss, but indeed she couldn’t leave Eddie. It wasn’t going to happen, yet Lilly knew that Scotty wasn’t thinking too clearly now. Why on earth would her partner and best friend even kiss her, secondly why did she continue to let him kiss her?

Looking up, Lilly felt the snow falling down on her face. It was certainly a cold February night, as she passed by several kids whom seemed to be excited, hoping for a snow day.

Upon coming home, Eddie was already asleep in bed, as she stood there watching his chest rising and falling. She loved him, but knew that her heart was already with him. Scotty was still her brother and would always be one; just not a boyfriend.

Yet she could still taste Scotty’s kiss, which made her sigh loudly. While in the middle of washing her face, Lilly decided that it was due this whole pregnancy thing, normally Scotty would never kiss her; nor would he act like he was in love with her. Little did she know he was serious about them getting together?

As she then climbed into bed, Lilly let her head rest down on his chest, hearing the sound of his heartbeat; while the snow had continued falling. The next morning, Eddie had awakened to hear that a blizzard had hit Philly, causing everything to close. Both his boss and hers told them to stay home, which was a good thing.

With a small kiss, Lilly’s eyes fluttered open before she turned; kissing him back, “Morning,” she said in between kisses. Sometime later after making love, Lilly came down wearing his long t-shirt and a pair of grey maternity sweat pants while seeing him pouring some coffee for himself.
“I could use a cup myself, “she said. Eddie turned before she kissed him, “Go back to bed Lil, I’ll be there in a few.”

“No I’m hungry; baby’s kicking up a storm,” which she opened up the fridge. She then pulled out some yogurt before adding both that and blueberries into a bowl. Eddie made a face, “That’s what you’re eating, you have to eat more. Got both you and this baby to feed.”
“ I already knew that, “ she groaned, “ Kid’s fists are punching my insides hard.”

Nevertheless, the two went back upstairs to watch a movie; which seemed to be fitting except when the lights went out. It was only three days before Lilly’s squad would catch their serial killer. In the meantime, the two relaxed and enjoyed their day off.

Relaxing wasn’t part of Scotty’s day, in fact he was still busying preparing for the birth of his child. He was sorting all the clothes by months but yet had found that he wanted to know what It was that he was having. Then realization had hit him, it was better not to know until the birth. His eyes looked at the phone, before stepping away; Lilly needed her sleep.

Besides the last time that he had called, Eddie practically had yelled at him. This was completely out of nervousness but still, Scotty typically called to speak about the case. Yet today, he didn’t quite feel like talking about it, until the phone had rung. It was his mother; Rosa. She was going off about wanting to come over, to finish putting up the border around the nursery.

The last time that she had come by, Scotty was left with a big headache. He didn’t need his mother to finish it, he could yet didn’t know how. While in the middle of it, his phone kept on ringing. Between his mother driving him crazy and this putting up the border thing, Scotty ended up doing it all crooked.

Punching the door hard, he winced in pain.

Things were getting better when it came to both Lilly and Eddie, whom were having some small talk while lying in bed together, “ I’m still trying to picture you as a little kid, playing in the snow.”

“ Problem, I was a kid once Rush.”

Lilly smiled softly, “ Always pictured myself playing with my child, just feeling free and happy, “ her eye lit up in happiness, “ You’re there as well, teaching both our son and daughter how to throw snowballs.”
He chuckled, “ Yet at you,” which had her looking at him, “ What I just was saying.”

“ I dreamed about it last night, how did you know? I remember us kissing, knowing that this was our perfect day as family.”

Her eyes were dreamily, his were as well. Eddie could see that they both were having dreams of their lives together. For a moment, he could feel the same,” Sounds wonderful, but which one was older?”

“ Our son was, not by much like they were each two years apart. He looked just like you, and she was like me,” making Eddie picture that in his mind, “ So does am I an uncle to this baby or not?, he asked changing the subject.

Being that she had no clue, Lilly exhaled. He took it that he wasn’t, a part of him was saddened but yet this was her partner’s baby for crying out loud. However his hand reached over; stroking her abdomen. Until Lilly reached over and grabbed a file off her nightstand.

One thing in their relationship was the fact that Eddie completely understood about Lilly’s own devotion to her job. He was just like her in that way, but yet didn’t try to stop her from looking over the case. Yet he was very proud of her; not just that she was the first female detective in Homicide, but she dealt with this whole pregnancy thing very well.

As he then reached over onto his side, he pulled out a small picture, “I wonder who this little girl, turned out to be? putting the photo in front of her face. Lilly snatched it, but had missed, “Give me that back!”
“No way, “looking at the back of the photo: Lilly age six -1976. He grinned wildly, “Even wearing pigtails, you were beautiful even back then.”

She blushed slightly, “So what did you look like at that age, were you a cute little boy?”

“Cute, I was handsome, still am, “making a face. Lilly shook her head, “You take yourself too seriously, but you are quite handsome,” her eyes now looking into his. Eddie’s heart began to beat faster, while feeling her lips on his, until he broke out singing a song; More today than Yesterday.

Lilly laughed loudly, “That’s what you call singing, better take some lessons there buddy, “as he pushed her down before looking directly into her eyes, “You gonna kiss me?”

That’s when his lips sealed hers, while it grew demanding; before he then tickled her, “I don’t see bad, never heard you sing?”

“No way, I’m not singing in front of you.” Feeling ashamed because Lilly did have a good singing voice; not that she dared to sing to anyone, somehow she finally did in front of him. Whatever the song was, Eddie couldn’t believe that Lilly could sing like this, but it was beautiful sounding.

Just then the sound of her cell broke her concentration, but instead Eddie picked up the phone, “Rush is unavailable Valens!”

On the other line, Scotty groaned in pain, “Just put Lil on the phone, Saccardo.”

Lilly took in a breath, “What is it, I enjoying my day off?”

“ I meant what I had said, I miss you.”

Lilly groaned before hanging up, knowing that now Scotty was going way too far. Looking up Eddie was curious, “I think this whole baby thing is messing with his mind, he’s saying things to me that he would never say ever.”

Being that they could talk just like this, Lilly spilled the beans, “Scotty kissed me, and he was acting strange one night. I don’t have the same feelings for him, like I do with you.”

Eddie understood and didn’t get angry, “He’s just realizing that he’s going to be a single dad. Probably is looking for the baby to have a mother. I don’t think he should be taking advantage of you, because you winded up carrying his kid.”

The other reason why he wasn’t upset is because he trusted Lilly, knowing that she would never sleep with her partner or anyone else. This whole having a baby thing was certainly driving the three of them crazy. It was a new experience, yet Eddie grew extremely protective over his girl. Nobody was going to take her away from him.

“ You can be an aunt, but don’t be going there all the time,” he paused to see that Lilly was listening to him, “ I’m sure that Valens will be having his mother there to help out, he’s not going to be all alone. “

Lilly knew he was going to need some help,” I could tell Kat to look in on him, she’s already a mother. Were both clueless when it comes to taking care of babies; plus with this other baby shower, it’s making him crazier.”

For this one she was invited, but for some reason didn’t want to go. However that wasn’t until April, but by then Lilly would be exactly eight months along.

Several weeks later, Scotty kept on trying to tell Lilly; what his heart was feeling. Only that now she was avoiding him completely, which was making matters worse. Although she spoke to him, when they were only at work, he still felt completely lost. Why was she avoiding him, was it because of that kiss, or something else?

While at work one morning, Scotty’s eyes were on a certain blonde, “Uh, Lil we need to talk.”

“ If it’s about the case yes, otherwise no.”

He sighed softly, while looking around; since everyone was out; Scotty knew he could talk in a low voice, “Look I care for you a lot, since this whole thing, I feel closer to you. Just want to be with you,” which had her turning towards him,” I love you;” just as both Vera and Jefferies had entered. However neither of them heard those three little words.

Vera now made a face, “ Getting big there Rush, “ motioning to her stomach, “ Sure that Valens isn’t having twins,” however it didn’t make Scotty throw up again, “ Nah, it’s one baby. Not sure what I’m having.”

Jefferies grinned slightly, “ Still having morning sickness there Scotty?”
“ Sometimes,” before catching on to what the older man was saying, “ I’m good.”

Also amused was Lilly, whom was shaking her head, “ You sure that you don’t want to know, I could find out for you.”

This made him think, “ I don’t know Lil, a part of me wants to be surprised; then the other side doesn’t. Kind of curious to know if I’m going to have a son or a daughter,” glancing at Lilly’s stomach.

She was getting bigger daily, yet wasn’t very huge. That was attributed to the fact that she was exercising and knew what healthy things to eat.

Lilly also loved being pregnant, which was highly evident, “ I’d say that you have one hyper-active baby, it’s a bit antsy right now, “ as her hand gently rubbed her abdomen slowly.

“ Probably wants to bail out of there,” hearing her sigh, “ Why the baby’s antsy all night now?”

She nodded, “Yeah, doesn’t let me sleep too well. I think it’s boxing inside of me.”

Later on the day, Scotty pulled Lilly into a room. He then handed her a long, pink rose, “ Just thanking you for taking care of my child. I’m glad this happened.”

She smiled, as he placed his hand onto her stomach, before rubbing it. This somehow had comforted her, “ Had Saccardo doing that most of the night, kid wouldn’t let up.”

“ I’d feel the same if I was able to be pregnant, “ causing her to laugh. Lilly liked his sense of humor sometimes , but the pregnancy did bring them closer together, “ You act as if you are, being sick when we go for a sonogram.”

He then pulled his hand away, as the two shared a kiss together. Lilly felt his lip brushing against hers, while enjoying this. Somehow she too was falling in love with him, yet this situation was now complicated. Lilly still would never leave Eddie; that would be the worst mistake ever. Yet, her heart wanted to now be with Scotty.

Pulling away slightly, Lilly’s heart was now racing, before exciting the room. She immediately went into the bathroom, and splashed some cold water over her face. Her heart was still racing fast, but as soon as Lilly had exited the bathroom, she immediately collided into Eddie.

He could see just how frazzled that she was, “ You alright?”
“ My heart’s pounding,” which made him take her wrist, as he felt her quickening pulse. This no doubt worried him,” You should get that checked out.”


As usual Lilly brushed it off, “ It’s nothing, I’m fine,” she smiled slightly. Eddie’s eyes glanced down at her stomach, “ So how about you and I go out for lunch?”

“ Yeah sure, right now?”

He nodded before Lilly went back into the bullpen to grab her coat, as the two then proceeded to go out. Much to her surprise, Eddie had picked a nice café for them to eat at. Glancing around, Lilly’s felt extremely hungry before looking at the menu.

While the two were enjoying lunch together, Scotty was standing now on the balcony; out of homicide. He knew that Lilly would never leave Eddie, that was impossible. Anyways he wasn’t going to stop her from seeing him, knowing that she was with someone good.

Maybe in the future they could be together, but just not right now. Then his mind reverted back to his unborn child, on what to name him or her. Perhaps Scotty should have bought a book, like Lilly had; be then again he could just ask to borrow it.

Later on in the day, just as everyone was getting ready to leave; Scotty watched Lilly getting up before joining Eddie out in the hallway. He sighed, wanting to at least walk with her. Part of that reason was the fact that he didn’t like being away from his unborn child.

However he remained at work, still thinking about the day that his baby would be born. Scotty was indeed excited for the birth, but yet scared as well.

Just a month later, Lilly and Eddie were walking together barefoot, on the beach. Although it was now April, the two needed a weekend getaway. Coming to the Jersey shore together was a good thing indeed, as Lilly continued walking hand in hand with him. She breathed in the ocean air, before standing there, looking up at the night sky.

It was so perfect, and yet romantic at the same time. Even Eddie had noticed it as well, “ I had a dream about us being here with our baby.”
She could see his own disappointment over the fact that they weren’t still going to be parents.

Upon sitting down on a blanket, Eddie continued watching a father holding his baby daughter in his arms.

How he had yearned to become one, as a little boy now called out for it’s dad. With a deep sigh, Eddie observed a family that he had wanted for long time.

By now the wind was kicking up, plus it was cold outside, “ I think we should leave, “

Eddie took in a deep breath, “ Stay at hotel or something, just don’t want to go home.”

Once there, he remained outside on the balcony, looking up at the stars. It was then if he was ever going to be a dad. Just then Lilly joined him, “ I understand how you feel, I know that I’m going to feel worse after it’s born.”

“ I just want my chance; our chance to become parents.”

What he didn't know was the fact, that both Lilly and Scotty had shared yet another this. This time it was out of love, somehow she didn't tell him. However he was suspecting something; especially since Lilly seemed to be acting strangely towards him.

By now this was bothering Eddie, seeing how Lilly seemed distracted by something. He couldn’t figure it out, but clearly it also was getting to him, “Are you alright Lil?”

“Yeah, never better,” she replied,” Why?”
“Just seem quieter than usual, “which made Lilly turn, “I’m fine, just have a lot on my mind.”

Eddie didn’t let this one go, “Let me guess, Valens kissed you again,” seeing the look on her face,” Why did you let him kiss you?” He was growing angrier at her now, “You know he’s not himself Lil, before this even had happened you two barely hung out together, outside of work. Watch when Valens’s baby is born, he’ll be back to treating you the way that he always does.”

She knew he was right, “Look perhaps we have been getting closer, but he knows that I love you. The kiss doesn’t mean anything, I’m always with you,” touching his hand.

That part was right, Eddie knew that Lilly wasn’t cheating on him, yet she had kissed her partner now twice, “He’s using you Lil, I’m just saying.”

“Say what you want, “she said before heading into the bathroom. Eddie sighed before calling Valens himself, he wasn’t about to let anyone steal his girl away from him. When Scotty had answered, Eddie remained cool and calm,” Listen, never kiss Lilly again. You don’t love her.”

Scotty took in a deep breath, “That’s wrong because I do, I love Lil,”
On the other line, Eddie’s own anger began flowing,” Say that again Valens, you know and I know that this is all due to you having a baby. Once it’s born you’ll be back treating Lil, the way that you’ve always done!”

Once hanging up the phone, Lilly came out, “Why did you call him,” clearly she had heard the whole conversation,” We’re not even having an affair, Scotty and I are just friends that’s all.”

“Not when I just heard Valens telling me that he loves you, “Eddie’s voice grew stern,” I’m not about to lose you to him, not here and not ever!”

Before Lilly could speak she felt his lips on hers, the man did know how to kiss. When he broke away, she breathed out,” I’m not leaving you; you think I’d leave you for him. Get real Saccado.”

Regardless, when the two finally came back home; Lilly was still getting calls from Scotty. Much to the point that now both she and Eddie were fighting constantly. One night, she then decided to head on over to her partner’s apartment.

When Scotty had answered he saw the look on her face, but yet let her speak, “ The calls have gotta stop, it’s ruining our relationship.”
He knew that this wasn’t good, “I love you Lil, and I really do.”

“ You can’t keep on saying this, or Saccardo might leave me. I can’t risk that, losing him wouldn’t be a good thing, “before Scotty moved in closer; capturing her lips. For moment the two continued kissing, until Eddie somehow caught them.

He pulled Lilly quickly away, leading her out of the building,” So this is how you lie to me, by kissing him behind my back?”

“No, let me explain,” seeing how Eddie had longer believed her, “I went there to defend our relationship, Scotty kissed me I didn’t!” fighting back the tears. Just then Lilly began crying softly,

Sure Eddie was angry but could he really leave her? “It’s over Lil; I can’t take this whole thing with Valens. It’s pretty clear that I don’t belong with you.”

Upon walking away, from now a woman who was now seven months pregnant; Eddie heard the sound of Lilly crying even harder. He knew what he had done wasn’t probably the right thing, but for now needed some time away from her. Nevertheless, Lilly went home to an empty house. Her heart was completely broken, as she now climbed into bed.
