I don't know if Thom's personal experience contributed to Saving Sammy. The story cores usually come from the writers who are both proud of their turf and restricted by legal policy from taking outside ideas. I didn't mean to suggest that Thom himself suggested it. I was just wondering if writers may have gotten the idea from hearing of his experiences. Probably not the first time. I mean you said he was country music fan and had a stint as a DJ when he was younger, and in "Static" Jeffries mentioned that he liked country music and DJ'ed in college. Writers take stuff from life all the time. Truth, after all, is stranger than fiction.

I hope it's not Lilly again, that wouldn't be good.

I hope it's not Lilly again, that wouldn't be good. I don't think that Lilly being shot again would be a bad idea. I mean, maybe they had a chance then, to handle the thing better than they did after Stalker. Though it would be very bad for Lilly herself. Being shot once is terrible. But twice...that's just awful..

I'm in the "I really hope it's not Lilly again" camp.
To be blunt, it's been done. Whether it's been dealt with in an acceptable way is a separate issue entirely; fact remains, it's been done. The whole 'shooting as a storyline' bit has been done, anyway... and it's been done specifically with Lilly. We've seen it, experienced it as it happened, and it HAS been dealt with (at least in part; whether individual viewers feel it's not been dealt with enough is a separate, and ultimately irrelevant, issue).
Having the same thing happen again is all well and good, but to have it happen again to to the exact same character? That's beyond the ridiculous, and would ultimately just be repeating the EXACT same thing we've already seen, with nothing new or fresh whatsoever... and using the one character that - frankly - does NOT need any more melodrama, least of all melodrama she's already 'melodramatised' ad nauseum.
If it were to be one of the others (and I have a suspicion as to who it may be), at the very least, it stands to give us some fresh insight into them, and gives a hard-hitting plot to someone other than Lilly... both of which are, IMHO, good things. Of course, having said that... the whole shooting angle has been done before, irregardless.. and even if they do give it to someone more in need of drama than Lilly, it'll still take an awful lot of ingenuity to make it believable as a 'fresh' storyline.

I agree. There are other ways to inject drama and/or give a compelling storyline than automatically going the "cop gets shot" route. I mean, yes, cops have risky jobs, and yes, some do get shot, but real cops don't get shot nearly as much as TV cops do (thank goodness!!). I mean, of our six-member squad, three have been shot already, so one of them is either about to get shot again (which rarely happens) or another one is about to join the club. I'm going to keep an open mind, but I'm in the "shooting isn't exactly the most creative way to bring about drama" camp, and also in the "I hope it's not Lil again" camp. Girl has suffered enough. Sheesh.

Too bad another one is going to get shot... And season 6 had been so cool until now(with exceptions like Triple Threat and Street Money) but so cool and now this! That's because so many people left the show during Season 5
Btw, 3 shot: Lilly, Stillman and who else?

Miller was shot while she was still in Narcotics. They discuss it briefly when she first comes on board in season 3, but the shooting itself was never on the show.

Perhaps it will be Scotty making a wrong move or angering a suspect?

What about Jefferies? That woman who ran over his wife, maybe he decided to start something, just an idea.

You are mistaken, a man ran over Jefferies wife that situation was already been delt with back in S4.
I have a big feeling that it will be Scotty or possibly Vera.

I have a big feeling that it will be Scotty or possibly Vera. I actually don't mind the idea of Scotty being shot this time. "Stalker" had a very interesting and exciting dynamism, maybe they handle with the shooting situation as good as they did there or even better. But Vera...well, I just can't imagine this.

Count me in the camp that hopes it's not Lilly who gets shot again, to me that would be one of the worst things the show could do. I mean, one it's been done before and two, how could it be done better/differently than last time? She got shot, she lived. Where do you go from there? She gets shot....goes into coma? She gets shot.....she dies? We haven't heard anything about Kathryn leaving the show so we know those aren't options, so is it to be she gets shot.....comes back to work X amount of time later?
Come on guys, don't go there.

I have Loved this season so far but the idea of one of the detectives getting shot is sick! It could be like a minor wound.... Let's see... Scotty/Frankie... HATE IT! :@

Sheesh. You couldn't be more right. Surely, surely the writers could come up with something else. This is becoming a common theme with writers recycling ideas (e.g. ADA's as love interests). So often the show comes up with some really good storylines, then have no idea how to end them and completely ruin them. Therefore even if someone does get shot and it looks interesting and all I have no confidence in the loose ends being tied. I doubt they'd have Lilly shot again though, they couldn't be that stupid (well they better not be that stupid!).
