I just came back from seeing it, and I loved it. Although the movie seemed for me to wrapped up like everything was in perfect harmony, the actors and actresses were fantastic. Kathryn did a suburb job playing both a mother ( which is something she rarely ever plays) and a wife who is strong willed but underneath has a softer side for her husband( Erik). The story is very put together how both Champ and Erik lives are both changed forever.
But at the end I think Erik had realized what was important to him in his life. For me I felt that some of the scenes were cut badly it jumped from one to another. I just wished that Kathryn had more scenes in this movie, for me she's a great actress that needs some more screentime.
This movie does have a lot of good points, I would most likely see it again. Each actor/ actress brings their characters to life and how they progress. But the underlying theme is something that is shown both in the beginning and at the end.

The reviews have been from one extreme to the other. Makes you kinda wonder if they are watching the same movie ;D
I read Roger Ebert's review (Which I trust the most) and he gave it 2.5 stars. I can't wait to see it. It looks like it's playing here in Chicago on a limited release. Not playing nearby, going to have to trek to see it....but I'm not complaining.

@ LII: Glad you liked the movie. I think I'd like to see it a second time as well ... @ skonygirl: I'm glad you noticed the reviews seem to either be completely in favor or completely against the film ... thought it was just me. LOL!

I finally got to see it (after a ridiculous weekend of trying to see it), and I thought it was wonderful. The story, acting, directing, everything was just amazing. I think this is one of the best acted films I've seen in a long time. Everyone blew me away, even Teri Hatcher of whom I'm not a fan. She made me laugh several times and I felt that she was perfectly cast. Alan Alda was great (love him anyway), and of course, Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett were off the charts. I usually don't think much of Hartnett's acting, but he was very strong in this film. Possibly his best work to date. Dakota Goyo was adorable, and extremely impressive. He made my heart sink when he had that disappointed face in the classroom during career day.
The ending was my favorite part of the film. Yes, everything was wrapped up nicely, but I liked that. I had been hoping the entire film that Joyce would take Erik back, so I was overjoyed to see that she did AND they had a new baby! Erik was so loyal to Joyce. He had plenty of opportunities to move on with someone else, and yet, he remained devoted to her and her alone. It said a lot about his character and it reinforced my hope for a happy ending. I also loved Erik's final story and the images that Lurie put over his words. It was one of those feel-good moments that tend to stick out for me. I also loved all of the father/son stuff in the film. I heard one critic say this weekend that the film is really about fathers and sons, and I think he's right. Erik's father had left him as a child, and yet, he still idolized him. It was as if he never grew out of that "my parents the heroes" phase and that's why it was so important for him to make his own son proud of him.
And then there was Kathryn. She was AMAZING. I think this was her best performance to date, and I know it was my favorite character that she has played. She had a much bigger role than I expected. There were so many scenes where she was teetering on the verge of breaking down, but keeping it together so beautifully. Her scenes with Josh out on the swingset and later in the hospital room were brilliant. I was blown away by her! When she wasn't teetering on the edge (with tears in her eyes), she was strong or adorable depending on what the scene called for, and she weaved between all of these emotions so perfectly. I think this role really showed off her range of talent.
The film's only fault for me, was its slower pace in the first half. Some of the Erik/Champ scenes slowed the pace a bit, but things picked up greatly once Erik's story was printed. Overall, though, a wonderful movie with an amazing cast. I was throughly entertained, moved, and satisfied.

OMG I LOVED RTC!! It was much better than I expected! There were some boring parts, of course Kathryn did not take part in those, but overall I loved the whole storyline and the ending! It was really sad @ the end too Kathryn was the BEST one in the movie! LoL, at least I thought she was! She had more parts in it than I expected, and when I first saw her on the BIG screen, I about jumped out of my seat! They should have had a commercial during the other movie previews for CC! ;D The bad news is I check on imdb.com just about every day to see how well it's doing, but it's not even in the top 10! I figured it would at least beat the Mr Bean movie, but that even beat the movie w/ Scarlett Johansen! (the Nannie/Nanny Diaries..? something like that...?) Anyways I think they should have done more commercials on TV for the movie and I bet they would have done MUCH better! I only saw it once compared to seeing the Mr Bean trailer about 1000000 times!!

I forgot to mention in my post that I LOVED the original score to this film. That main theme is great! Nice job by the composer Larry Groupe. LII - Not sure whether Joyce and Erik had another son or a daughter, but I just loved how Teddy was in there talking to the baby (imparting some of that big brother knowledge). It was too cute for words! ETA: The soundtrack is actually available on iTunes. I found the pieces that I was specifically referring to, but the entire album is nice. The main theme

hey TVFan, where did you got such a great photo of KM in RtCh which you used in your avatar? do you have a HQ of it? ruda I think TVFan used one of her screencaps from a copy of the trailer she found. They are in the 'Resurrecting the Champ' News thread. I took some caps from the 1080p HD version of the trailer I found. You can find links to the trailer and my caps later in the same thread.

RichE is correct. It's from the higher quality one that I found, but he made some excellent HD caps from the HD trailer on iTunes.

I rewatched this film this weekend, and found that I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. It was one of those films that I went to see for Kathryn, but wound up enjoying immensely. I know I already praised everyone for their stand-out performances in this film, but it bares repeating. Putting all biased aside, I really think that Kathryn's performance stood out the most. She does a very nice job of completely taking over the character to the point where you see very little trace of her and only the character she is playing. I thought she did this especially well here. Maybe I just enjoy her little nuances and subleties that make these characters feel real (whether it's Joyce or Lilly or whomever). It was really nice to see her play a mom and I was very impressed at what a natural she was with Dakota Goya. And on a completely superficial note, how amazing did she look in this film??!! This is a classic for me. I actually lent it out to my parents because they wanted to see it, and now I'm a little sorry I did b/c it means not having it for a while.

And on a completely superficial note, how amazing did she look in this film??!! Kathryn looked astounding. I've already waxed plenty of lyrical about the garden scene but it has to be one of the greatest things ever committed to celluloid And in the commentary Rod Lurie was saying he felt he should have cut it
