I'm happy for zoé to host the website. I'm really not bothered where it is hosted. I don't want to cause any problems with people.

I was wondering about a virtual season 8. I know they did a virtual season 7 for "Crossing Jordan". It had it's own website and some of the fan fiction writers on fanfiction.net even had the link to it on their homepage. It is really creative with photoshopped pictures and a trailer for each episode. A soundtrack was even made for each episode which would be important in an episode of Cold Case. I would say it would be better to make a separate website. If everyone wants it as elaborate as that.

I know I should probably talk to whoever's going to be in charge of this whole thing, but I would be willing to make a soundtrack for each episode. (A mix containing the songs, cover art, back cover art, and innerlay art.)

(A mix containing the songs, cover art, back cover art, and innerlay art.) I think most writers would tend to prefer picking their own songs, but cover art, or perhaps some sort of image for the episodes themselves sounds intruiging... For my part, I had an idea for a 2-part "season premiere" with an all-R.E.M. soundtrack. What do you think? There's one story I'm working on in the meantime that's definately a season 7-er, however.

@todd - Oh no! I know that! I just meant that the writers would give me the song list, I'd either see if I have the songs already, or buy them. Then compile the songs into a mix.
So, do you understand now? I wasn't saying that I was going to pick the songs. (well except for whichever fics I write.)
Sorry, about the confusion.

I agree with madmax, novimore should be hosting it. Because I'm sure many sites would want to be involved with this, and it's not fair to chose one person from a particular site to help out. Someone who doesn't own anything such as a website for Cold Case, Kathryn etc, should host it, and create the website.

by the way, the more bickering people do over the site, the more time's wasted. I think a lot of us would much rather start to get the show on the road, and not have to spend so much time finding the exact right person to make the site.

I won't fight over the hosting thing, but:
- I already pay for the hosting and a new site would cost only the price of a new domain (there are no ads so I don't make any money out of this)
- the site has already a few pages and won't look anything like coldcasepedia
- nomnivore is familiar with Drupal so she can take over the management of the site
So IMO that's the more convenient and the fastest.
Reverend, it's a great idea for the mix and the cover art, I'll keep that in mind during the setup. Does anyone have other ideas of content? Who could make vid promos?

I don't think it's bickering. I'm only trying to give everyone a free go.
Novimore already said he/she can create a site, so why not let him do it Zoe? Ity won't be faster your way, It'd be faster his/her way seeing he already has it planned.
If you would like to create it, then I think it's only fair to let the Look Again owners also get into here and have a change of hosting it. What about Perfect Case? I work on there, and I'm sure Darly would to love to create a site seeing she already pays for one.
See how many people who own things for Cold Case would want to host this? Alot, and seeing novimore has nothing to do with any of these sites, just let him do it.

Hey Reverend, ya know it's not bickering, but important matters that need to be talked over. As you know there are a lot of websites that are KM related and i bet most of them want to host it. Well i can see that few already want to host it. And organization of such a website is not 5 min. It takes time just like organization of an actual show. It will be hard to have everyone happy, but we should spend time on this step of creating a website. And i also believe that hosting should be done by someone who does not have a KM or CC related website yet. And admins of that website should be a host plus few other people so a power over it wont be in hands of one person. So as I previously stated, lets take a bit of time in organizing it well.

Let's look at the facts here. I'm pretty sure that we want a site that is 1.) Ad free, because those get annoying 2.) Has an easy to remember URL 3.) Simple and effective
That costs money. So who here is 1.) Knowledgeable with HTML/CSS coding 2.) Has the money for a domain 3.) does NOT host any sites related to KM or CC?
I say we go with Zoe's plan. She can make the site, and then give it to nomnivore to manage.
Personally, I just feel that if this keeps up then we won't get started until next year.
ETA: To those saying that Nomnivore should create and host the site; well, does (s)he have the money? So we can have an ad-free site, because those can be distracting.
Again: If this keeps up, then at this rate we might as well kiss the idea goodbye, because we'll be here all the time "discussing" (debating) about who gets to host the site.

Well I say go with novimore.
"So who here is 1.) Knowledgeable with HTML/CSS coding 2.) Has the money for a domain 3.) does NOT host any sites related to KM or CC?" You said this. I'm sure novimore fits in that category...But Zoe doesn't! She hosts/owns ColdCasePedia, therfore it's unfair for her to host/own this site. Someone who doesn't have anything to do with a Cold Case/Kathryn/Danny site should host/own it. Admins are different, but owners, or hosters should not have anything to do with that type of site.
He/She said before anyone he can do it. We shouldn't question it. He/She started this topic, Zoe didn't. He's/She's the one who actually really got this started. He/She deserves the credit to make it and host it. Then if h/shee wants Zoe as some admin or whatever, that's his/hers choice. But Zoe shouldn't be hosting it. If that's going to happen, than I'm going to be spreading the news everywhere for other admins of Cold Case, Kathryn, Danny sites asking them if they'd like to host it, and give them this link so they also have a chance.

it was nomnivore's idea and he/she should host it, especially since nomnivore said they are able to do it, able to create the website. besides zoe is already associated with CC site. and it souldnt be a website that owner is already associated with any currently running CC website. Also it should be managed by few ppl with totally diff poin of views because we all know that there are diff kinds of shippers and all of them should be heard and ideas for episodes or personal lives of characters should come from all diff people. Everything should be taken into consideration. I went to Crossing Jordan virtual season website ans all the episodes there are written by few writers. i bet all of them contributed in some way to the creation of the episode and it should be done the same way. Especially since its done for fans by fans. Were not looking for ratings but doing it for own pleasure. So there should be few ppl that will admin it. So again it was nomnivore's idea and they should host it and be an admin there.

Hi, I am really sorry, I didn't want to cause any troubles. I really don't want to step on any one's toes. Zoe has been lovely in offering to help host it. I also think Tsmitts is one of the best fanfic writers I've seen, and would love to have him have a part to play. In the end, I'm not bothered who hosts the site, as long as someone does. (Also, I'm a girl, just in case anyone was wondering )

LillyScotty & MadMax, I don't get the hostility towards me. I also don't get the "rule" of noone that hosts a CC/KM/Whatev site can't host it I only care about the technical stuff and reading the virtual episodes, that's all. If Nomnivore is a full admin on the site, she can rule it the way she wants and I don't plan to interfere with the creative process more than any contributors (well, except if there are some things that could mean legal troubles for me!). Bottom line, I just want to offer a practical solution. So here is an example with ToddSmitts's last fic: test.coldcasepedia.com/episode/trial-by-fire/part-1- concerning the URL, it is, of course, temporary until a domain name is chosen - there's no specific design for now so it's not very "sexy" but what matters is how the fic is displayed: -> it's streaming music from YouTube, but it can also come from many other 3rd party providers -> when you're hovering with the cursor over a character's name with a link, it displays the picture of the actor The purpose is really to help the reader visualize the scenes in their head. - Drupal allows collaborative work, so there can be writers, beta readers, music pickers, casting people, ... and any kind of content can be added without any technical knowledge needed If someone wants to host it (with Drupal), I am OK to give the backup of the database so it can be used somewhere else.

I'm looking at the fic now, and I have to say that I really like it. Ok, sure, it could be 'sexier' but it's actually very neat, and everything.

I'm not a writer, but I would be very interested in reading these fics as I have enjoyed Toddsmitts's writing style for a very long time since it sticks closely to CC's format.

Admin Note
This is not targeting everyone, but it is a message that everyone should read and be aware of. The bickering over where this project should be hosted is getting silly and has no place here if the thread is to continue, and if this idea is ever going to get off the ground.
Ya'll can't guarantee that you're going to have the only virtual season 8 going on here, who has hosted what previously has nothing to do with whether they should host another site. Hosting costs money, domain names cost money, so unless you're willing to pay for it, please don't argue if you're not contributing, anyway. Whoever would like to host should work it out among themselves.

I don't get the hostility towards zoe either. I LOVE that way of presenting the stories!!! I'd definately love to see that as the way to go! A few things I'd suggest: -I recommend pasting the story from the Look Again board rather than ff.net, since it's the most up-to-date version posted. (I still haven't gotten around to fixing the name of Gabrielle and Angela after I retroactively switched them). -In the case of characters portrayed by two actors such as Seth, perhaps the name should only link to one picture and name at a time. Therefore the name of Seth in the present links to the adult actor while the Seth link in the flashbacks gives us the child version. This is just partly to avoid giving away the occasional surprise. Overall, however, I REALLY like this for a treatment, and speaking as a writer, it REALLY wants to make me write faster so I can see more work showcased like this! Edited to add: Since we're already adding music, how about the opening theme at the bottom of the teaser page too?
