Well... Greed isn't connected to the color green, Greed is connected with the color yellow *SORRY*  But here a list of the deadly sins: - Anger -> Red - Gluttony -> Orange - Greed -> Yellow - Envy -> Green - Lust -> Blue - Sloth -> Light Blue - Pride -> Violet The home page where I found it: deadlysins.comAs I said I'm sorry my mistake.... No need to apologize...because this adds another dimension to the story! After all, the "Lost Boys" as a group first met Danville by looking across the restaurant and staring at his table with envy. It really fits the story because it was their envy of Danville's wealth and lifestyle that got them messed up with him in the first place, as much as they all were greedy. If you want to associate the green color with its matching sin, it still makes sense to me! And that site is remarkable! I would never have guessed that the Seven Deadly Sins have their own website! |

Okay folks, I think I've gotten over my Wall Street issue with this episode, so let's move ahead and have some fun reflecting upon Greed, shall we? Because it still was enjoyable and it's obvious to me that the CC production crew were having fun with this one. Here are some of my additional thoughts:
Stu Livermore owned a dry cleaning business. How ironic! "Laundering" can be interpreted as a double-entendre for either dry-cleaning or hiding the source of illegal money. So Stu takes his legitimate money he earns from laundering...then uses it for illicit purposes such as insider trading? That's funny! Its just like the reversal of fortune situation about the stolen sports cars. Stu also has an interesting last name, Livermore. The liver is an organ that creates bile to break down food in the digestive system; Dry-cleaning uses chemical solvents to break down stains in clothing.  (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_Cleaning ) I also think Martin Grey did a spectacular performance as Stu Livermore. "To lives of quiet desperation...and not leading them," is the toast that Danville makes. As Stu Livermore, Grey did a perfect portrayal of someone living in quiet desperation. Dear God, the man looked like a cocaine junkie himself as he picked up those used tickets at the OTB.
That camera shot of Randy Price in the john snorting cocaine was hilarious! I'm pretty sure the camera guys knew that using a wide-angle lense would distort his face to give him a really big nose--and his honker looked like a vacuum cleaner sucking up that blow! ( "Either up your nose or through your vein, With nothin to gain except killin’ your brain!")
Champagne bottles can be interpreted as a phallyx symbol. You know, the shape of the cork, the big pop and foamy liquid, and even the foil wrapper is symbolic of 'protection'. So its rather funny that Danville 'pops the cork' and pours it into the Lost Boy's glasses...an entertaining foreshadow of the plot to come. (So ladies, that's why you always let the man pop open a champagne bottle. And try not to think about what I just wrote here, the next time you have champagne with your hubbie, okay???  )
I can't figure out the language that Mavis, Kip, and Danville use when toasting at the Japanese restaurant. It's definitely not Japanese, which would traditionally be "Kanpai"! I wonder what they said....
I wonder if Randy Price was really thoroughly truthful about meeting Danville by chance on a rainy night. Could it be that they first met each other through other means, such as a personals ad?? BTW, Market Street is a one-way street. Perhaps it would have been more appropriate that they met on a two-way street? ha ha ha.....
"Collins Brothers", the fictional name of Danville's investment banking firm, is a suitable name for such a company. Real-life investment banking firms include companies such as "Lehman Brothers", "Salomon Brothers", "Christian Brothers Investment Services", and "Brown Brothers Harrimann & Co".
In the final montage Lilly sees Charles Danville's ghost, he waves a toast to her (as if he's thanking her for solving his murder--nice!), then Lilly whispers something into Kite's ear. Its a rather interesting visual sequence, since one form of insider trading--Danville's crime--essentially starts with an "insider" (i.e. Lilly) sharing secrets with an "outsider" (i.e. Kite, who is not a member of the "Detective's Club").
Speaking of Lilly, I would never want her to pour me beer. Did anyone else notice how she pours beer? Kathryn, don't you know you're supposed to tilt the glass to cut down on the foam?? ha ha ha... Just kidding about the nitpikin'. You can pour me a glass of beer anytime.... :smile73:
Finally, "Karma Chameleon"...as in Gecko? Another reference to Wall Street? Sung by Boy George--the most openly gay singer of the eighties? A clever foreshadowing of the homosexual theme that develops later, perhaps?? Red, Gold, and Green = Anger, Greed, and Envy ... the ingredients one needs to kill a wealthy man?? |

I think that wasn't beer boxman it's cream soda , i think there is a lot of symbolism in a lot of episodes , I glad some else is picking up on this , I didn't think there were a lot of people on this site that analized it like me , i catch everything

I think that wasn't beer boxman it's cream soda. You know, you could be right. Those glasses looked more like sundae glasses, and not like pint glasses. ;D |

Even a simple nod of the head. I liked Lilly's expression after they interviewed Stu--you could easily see that she was both disappointed that he's not the killer and that she felt bad for him for losing his money. What did you think of the two guys that played Kip Crowley?? Weren't they great?? I had to look at the credits a couple of times because I couldn't believe they were played by two different people! They got each other's personality and mannerisms down really good. |

I think that substance was supposed to be beer, but in reality it wasn't. When Scotty hands his glass to Lilly for her to fill up, she says something to both him and Elisa. It looks like she's saying that he needs to be careful since he's driving, thus indicating that the substance is at least supposed to be beer.
This is funny boxman. I must admit that I did not know this either. But then again, I've never been a beer drinker, so I guess this explains it. ;D

But then again, I've never been a beer drinker, so I guess this explains it. ;D At a bar its best to have the least amount of foam in a tap or poured beer--you get more to drink! But if you're buying a bottled beer for yourself--especially expensive imported beer--a foamy head is okay. The bubbles will help release the brew's aroma. :smile73: |
