Did you catch it in S2? did you see the rerun on TNT, byrdman? I thought it was one of their best episodes. When they can flesh out and make me feel what the victim is feeling then they've succeeded. I loved the color they used too for the timeframe and the endindgin the kitchen was just gutwrenching disbelief that people could treat another human being as they did.

Dear Naj, Good day to you! Thanks for getting back with me on this, and for your questions as well. I hope that you had a Happy New Year, and I wish your Steelers good luck today! Go Steelers! Well, I actually managed to catch this ep the last time it re-aired on CBS during season 2. March maybe? I can check my dvd recorder for a precise time. I did not catch the rerun on TNT (too late, and I had seen it anyway) I thought it was a great one too, it spanned the generations talking with all of those people. You got several different perspectives from several different subjects, and it was a disturbing case about a rather disturbing time for America with race relations. The black and white was used very well for the ep (was that a first time for Cold Case? I think so) in several different spots. It fit 1939 very well indeed. And that last segment in the kitchen, with poor Sadie. That was truly awful - I thought the exact same thing - how could a group of human beings treat another this way?

Tuned into this ep last night on TNT, and I really enjoyed it. I noted this was a Veena Sud script, so I had a feeling it was going to be emotional and/or powerful. I loved that it was a period piece. I'm a history buff, so I always enjoy watching anything set back in history a bit. The music, the wardrobe, the sepia tone/black and white tint to all of the flashback scenes were really well done. Really enjoyable characters in this ep - from Sadie to Blanche to Jonesy to Candy Man. Each had a distinct personality that was revealed so cleverly through their dialogue. The ending rape scene was extremely powerful - it almost reminded me of The Accused. Was hard to watch, but it was a poignant climax to end the episode. I enjoyed the ending music montage as well. As for Lilly / Kite ... I pretty much feel as I did last week after watching "Glued." He has bothered me even more this week, though, with holding a personal grudge against Lilly that interferes with the job at hand. It's immature, it's a power play, and it's cheap. I really do take issue with the idea that he's decided not to call her back for a WORK issue because she won't call him on a PERSONAL issue. For me, that is the most inappropriate mix of business and pleasure. He needs to work it out with her off hours (even if that means waiting around to confront her given she is in hard-to-get mode). Don't start preventing crimes from being solved simply because the detective at hand won't sleep with you. Come on, Kite. Grow up. I did like the little exchange between Scotty and Lilly re: Kite. I'm not sure how to take Lilly's "I might of made a mistake" line. I now wonder if Lilly was referring to the fact that maybe she should NOT have allowed Kite to take her out, kiss her, invite him, etc. if he's going to resort to the sort of behavior he's exhibiting where he's prepared to essentially penalize her at WORK for not furthering the PERSONAL relationship on his terms. Then again, I could see it as being the opposite in that maybe she should have returned one of his PERSONAL calls. Still, I really do not like Kite right now. He's being pretty manipulative, holding Lilly hostage on the job for personal reasons. Even Stillman was pretty shocked when Kite ushered in the no-go verdict on the exhumation. Almost as if he perhaps sensed Kite deliberately sabotaged the whole deal because of his personal issue with Lilly as opposed to being a professional, putting the personal aside, and fully going to bat for not only Lilly, but the whole team and the victim's family. Not cool. TVFan has already forewarned me about some additional manipulation that occurs on Kite's end in some upcoming eps, so ... I guess there may be more of the same to come. It's too bad, too, because I do feel like Kite is a good guy on the whole, but he's playing games with Lilly, and I don't like that at all. Goof: Did anyone notice that you could clearly see the boom mic in the Stillman office scene (right before Kite comes in to say it's no-go on the exhumation)? Kathryn is sitting in the chair as the cast is opposite her / to her left, and as the camera begins to pan/close in, you can clearly see the boom mic moving / resting right next to the chair in which Kathryn is sitting. LOL! All in all, really nice ep.

I loved the episode for the same reasons as you; the music, wardrobe, flashbacks in sepia....awesome .

LilyKat--Good job! You've got Kite pegged! Have you seen Lover's Lane yet?

I loved the ending it as Lilly and Scotty were walking past the files, and Sadie appears in front of Lilly. You can see the look on her face as if she too has closure.

LilyKat--Good job! You've got Kite pegged! Have you seen Lover's Lane yet? Hi michelle ... I have not seen "Lover's Lane" as yet, but I am looking forward to it. I read your analysis over in the LL thread, and it really has me interested in how the whole thing ends up with Lilly and Kite. I've read about as much spoiler-ish info as I can, so ... just have to wait for the re-run on TNT. Right now, especially after this ep, I'm just kind of over Kite's antics to try and get Lilly ... well, into bed (which is basically all I think he's going for at this point whilst she is perhaps genuinely thinking he's interested in her for MORE than that). It's kind of a shame given Lilly's fragile emotional state - she can't seem to pick the right guy, and even when it seems like she has, he ends up being not the right guy. Poor gal cannot catch a break. LOL! But, I still support having Kite return to the show because I think all good crime/cop shows should have an interesting ADA on board - which Kite is. And, it goes without saying that there is excellent chemistry between Josh Hopkins, Kathryn and the rest of the cast. It's always interesting when he's on the screen. LII2: You have an excellent point in that I also liked seeing Sadie's expression at the end ... truly a sense of peace after such a traumatic and violent passing. Lilly and Scotty walking out of the volumnious storage house was also a nice image ... as in, among all those files, they could find Sadie and bring closure to her and her family.

I just think that personally Kite's and Lilly's relationship was pure lust. I don't think that if Kite does come back that Lilly is pining for him. Any way back on topic, I loved the scene where Lilly and Scotty are walking and he is teasing her. it's sad that the milkman I forgot his name didn't love Sadie for who she was.
So what if her daughter was black if he loved Sadie it wouldn't have mattered. I guess in the end before she died Sadie did see his true colors. My theory of why he killed her was so she couldn't have indentified the men .

I agree. I missed it the first time around, but was able to catch most of it this time. I did miss the ending though. Could anybody tell me what happened? I already know Jonsey did it, but I missed it after it showed Sadie dead on the table.

It featured the song "Blue Moon" by Ella Fitzgerald. Lilly / Scotty arrested Jonesy, but not before he pulled out all of the letters he had written back / forth to Sadie; Lilly gave those letters to Sadie's granddaughter; Lilly / Scotty returned the case file to the storage house, where Lilly "sees" Sadie down one of the aisles as she and Scotty walk out. I think that's about it ...

Great Kite analysis LillyKat!! I think you really nailed Kite's intentions and motivations when it comes to his relationship with Lilly. Kudos for catching it before seeing how it all plays out down the road.

Anyone want to do a bit-part transcipt; Lilly and Kite and Lilly and Scotty? In Aus they've finished giving us Cold Case reruns and are probably going to finish Season 3 (Death Penalty: Final Appeal is going to air Monday) and then leave us hanging until season 4. So I've missed most of the S1 eps, and all of the Lilly/Kite drama *sigh*. And this ep sounded like it was good for it

@jambled- the only thing I can really tell ya is that Lilly asked Kite for some kind of exhumation warrant, and he didn't get it.. and he didn't work too hard to get it for her...so she got tiffed at him, b/c she thought he would do anything he could for her
And the deal with Scotty, I just remember him giving her a hard time with the whole Kite thing, kind of funny, actually ;D...and he keeps asking her questions about if she's mad at him [Kite] and she just smiles and kind of nudges, but doesn't give him an answer
Hope that helps! ;D

Saw this episode and I really liked it. I figured that the other guys were dead but Jonesy.
I felt bad for Jonesy's grandson though, I mean he doesn't know what happened in his grandfather's past and pretty much Nathan had to confess. Seems the grandson doesn't listen very well either.
I thought it was gross how much cheese whiz Scotty put on his cheese steak. I have never seen my uncle or my dad put cheese whiz on their cheese steak.

I love S1, S2 episodes. I can re-watch them over and over, and never get tired of them. I love the Lilly/Kite relationship (he is hot)its a shame they never brought him back again. I feel bad for the grandson, but Jonsey killed Sadie and has to be punish for it. I have a question though, when Scotty is asking Lilly questions about Kite, she said she made a mistake... she meant she made a mistake by going out with him or by being mad at him for something that was out of his hands?

Saw this episode recently and I can't remember the granddaughter's name who got mad at Will and Nick in one scene. I felt bad for her because I bet she knows nothing about what her grandfather did and same for Jonesy's grandson. I bet that case would be thrown out in court too.
