Boxman, First of all I wanted to thank you for approaching in a so particular way each episode. Your analyses on the symbols, the metaphors, the colors, the little details are so original and enriching. they clarify each episode of a different aspect. Thus I re-examined this episode yesterday evening after having read your various comments and I believe that you also have an influence on me because I noticed something that I had not seen the preceding times. I noticed in this episode the small postcard on the table (one sees it at the beginning after the murder) on which he is written : « The time we spend together never seems long enough » These some words at the beginning of the episode takes all its direction during the episode. Each episode really abounds in lucky finds, reflexions, metaphors… This show is really so invaluable. Isn't it fun to watch the show this way, to look for hidden things?? See, I *haven't* noticed the postcard... so now that you've mentioned it, I will look for it tonight!

Welcome xokellbellox! I liked Fly Away too but Sherry Darlin ... This ep is such a sentimental favorite of mine and yes Lilly was in tears. She looks so young and tender. *naj stops to say: "ah"* James was an excellently portrayed character when he says in the basement: "I'm a disgrace." you really can feel it. His attire, his stubbly face and hair all conveyed just how miserable a man he had become since his grandmother was killed. Oh and Lilly having such compassion and empathy and so drawn in. I like this side of Lilly. It was the same kind of Lilly we saw in The Woods. But I liked her better in this ep. I agree with this aspect of Lilly. These are the characteristics I so miss about Lilly Rush: I think the writers recaptured it in Season 2 when Veena wrote the two George eps. But it's gone in Season 3. boxman, Yes I'd definitely love some commentaries on the CC dvds and discussion of symbolism of Lilly and others. I'd be very open to that aspect.

Looking over this episode, I'm rather dubious as to if Sherry would actually get convicted for killing James's grandmother. It's basically her word against James' and any decent defense attorney could easily paint James as a likely alternative suspect for the murder, given his state of mind.
They got her on fraud and might be able to get her for conspiracy and/or covering up the crime but murder? I dunno...

Interesting thoughts. Also, we need to consider that Sherry is married to a rich guy. She's been able to con a lot of guys over the years. One thing's for sure. James makes a second appearance in Season 2 and Sherry's fate was never discussed. Chances are, he will make another appearance.

Watching this ep again really made me miss s1/s2 Lilly. She has changed SO much and I miss that kick-butt attitude she had. Not that I still don't love her, she is just letting her life get to her TOO much. And it's killing me to see her like that! Don't get me wrong, she still does things to make people talk, but it's not the same as she was at first. She lets too much get to her now! I guess I would understand since ALL that HAS happened to her, but she seems like I COMPLETELY and TOTALLY different person from season 2 to 3, and then from each season then on.... Oh yeah but I still totally love this ep. ;D ESP when Lil says to James, "and I'm your girl now."

I'm so with you, coldcasegirl. As more of the early stuff replays on TNT (and other channels), I just get increasingly bummed out watching where Lilly "was" as to where she is currently. I know I sound like a broken record (but hey, at least I'm consistent (LOL!)), but as much as I believe in the growth of the character (and have defended it at times), it should not come at the expense of what made the character so endearing in the first place. She's not spunky anymore. She's not funny anymore. She's not sassy anymore. She seems depressed most of the time. She just goes through the motions without that fearlessness that made her much more fun to watch. True, she's had a lot of stuff happen to her in recent years, but it is in a lopsided quantity, and she seems to hardly have ever recovered from any of it and/or lost her true self in the process. It's becoming harder for me to stay interested in her given where she is today. When the old eps roll (especially gems like "Sherry Darlin'"), I feel like I'm mourning the death of the character .... she is just so not the same nowadays (and not even remotely the same at times). I feel it's one of the huge missteps of the series overall. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I feel like they tried to "fix" something that wasn't really broken, and as a result, stripped the essence of the Lilly Rush character down to a mere shell of its former shelf. As much as I never wanted to make the Gillian Anderson/Scully/X-Files-what-the-heck-happened-to-her-in-the-last-season comparison ... well, I feel as if Lilly is headed down that path ... especially with the older eps now airing so frequently and serving as a constant reminder of what she used to be. As for this particular ep, it's in my top 5 for the series. I absolutely LOVED the dynamic between Lilly and James. It was so awesome. And I think the line, "And I'm your girl now" is in the top 5 for the series as well. Love that. O, Lilly, Lilly ... Wherefore Art Thou, Lilly of yesteryear?

I liked this episode and I do miss the S1/S2 of Lilly. I like this one better than S7.
One thing I did notice, where was Scotty?
I do liked the Rush/Vera paring though.
I guess Lilly kinda understands James' situation as she has to take care of her mom even though her mom isn't elderly.

Great episode.
James was such a memorable character. I felt sorry for him, even though he had helped kill and bury his grandmother. He was so messed up from the killing. The scene between him and Lilly in the house was moving. I'm happy we got to see him again. Silas Weir Mitchell put in a phenomenal performance.
I can't remember any other elderly victims. Krystal was a great character, warm and sympathetic. Though that family was kind of unlucky- one grandmother murdered, one grandson in jail, two parents killed in a car crash, and another son murdered (in Kensington). Lonnie was pretty lucky to have only gotten a scar!
Loved Lilly looking at a picture of a smiling Krystal in the ending montage- pure Lilly.
