I spotted quite a few familiar faces in this episode: Rance Howard (2004 Buddy): Fans of "Babylon 5" will recognize him as Sheridan's dad in several episodes. He also had a fun guest spot on "Angel" as an old man who steals Angel's body and proceeds to paint the town red. He's also had roles in movies like "Apollo 13" and "Independance Day" (he was the chaplain that marries Will Smith and Vivica A. Fox). He also has a son named Ron who appeaed on some show called "Happy Days" and then tried his hand at directing and was never heard from again Joeseph Campanella (2004 Nelson): He has a long list of TV and movie credits going as far back as "The United States Steel Hour" in the fifties. Oddly enough, though, to me he'll always be the voice of Dr. Curt Connors AKA the Lizard in the "Spider-Man" animated series (the one that aired on FOX in the '90's) Myndy Crist (Dana Hunter, Lilly's reporter friend): The first thing I saw her in was a couple of episodes of "NYPD Blue" as a nurse who worked for a murdering doctor and who later seduced Det. Clark. I later saw her on an episode of "House" as a woman whose strange illness revealed she'd cheated on her husband. Finally I caught her on an episode of "CSI Miami" as a victim of identity theft. She later turned the tables on the thief by framing her for the murder of her ex-husband. This is the first role I've seen her in where she wasn't doing something bad.

Great detective work toddsmitts!! Also,
Jenna Fischer (Dottie 1943): She plays Pam on NBC's The Office. She's getting a lot of press lately because that show has really taken off.

And here I thought I was the only one thinking the ending of this episode was pulled out of nowhere.
I really hated the sloppy way in which, for a twist, they revealed Nelson as the killer.
It should have been that b***h who wanted Nelson. In my opinion it would've worked better.

Old cases are generally not my taste. However I found myself attracted to this one. It's presumably because the subject ''women's independence'' and the context ''war'' are familiar to me. I thought the process Alice frees herself from the duties of a housewife and finds what she can do in society as one person little by little was portrayed well. She looked as lively as time goes on. In the closing scene, I could see how Lilly respected her for helping pave the way for women live in the present as well as how Alice was proud of trying to carry out the way she wanted to live. That's my fav scene. Ummmm, sadly though, even now I don't think the way of thinking between the sexes with regard to women's stand in labor and home is that changed, indeed. Oh well. I got goose flesh all over because of Dottie's words and deeds. My soldier, I would jump for Nelson if he wanted me, ahhhhh, eerie!! Or do they call it pure love? I, too, thought it was more likely an accident. He just lost self-control, and must had felt the %#$%s of conscience ever since because he seemed to feel relief by revealing the truth and being released from a sense of guilt. Thought it is interesting that Alice's scarf is red -- symbol colour of love, passion, and anger I believe. The place where her scarf fell when Nelson tossed it over her body was different to where we saw it at the beginning of the episode..... You swing? LOL. ;D

Ahh... Just finished watching this. I'm always a bit skeptical when first watching these old cases, but they always turn out so much better than I expect them to. Always very pleasant when that happens. The episode opens with the entire Cold Case detective staff getting coffee at Philly's Reading Terminal Market (pronounced "Redding"). The railroad terminal that the market is associated with once connected Philly to the town of Reading, Pennsylvania, about sixty miles northwest. Reading, if you remember, is the city in 1.19 "Late Returns" that Vanessa Prosser would go to to meet Melvin Dobey in order to find out more info about David Lake and his sister. The Reading Terminal Market is two blocks east from City Hall (and the "Philly PD headquarters"..). If I recall correctly, Alice's neighborhood of East Falls is among the oldest small towns in Philadephia County. I'm quite certain that the neighborhood goes as far back to the late 1600's or so, when the first German immigrants came to the city at the invitation of William Penn. One of the appeals of the area was its proximity to water, which provided power for mills and factories, as well as a means of transporation for manufactured goods. Another familiar face in this episode is Lois Smith ("Frannie" 2004), who played Dr. Iris Hineman in "Minority Report" back in 2002 with Kathryn Morris. Numerous recurring themes and symbolisms in this episode: Alcohol consumption, women's entry into the "man's world" of work, automotive association with 'crime' or 'corruption' (For a moment, Alice gives in to Buddy's advances in his car.) It's funny to watch this episode--which I found excellent--after watching 4.02 "The War at Home". This episode is rather devoid of the kind of stereotypical antagonist characters that were in Sunday night's episode (such as the blonde bimbo and the gung-ho military dude). Because everyone in this episode is so normal, it makes the revelation of who the murderer was even more shocking to discover. When watching it a second time, it was odd for me to realize that the murderer was so pleasant, polite, and always smiling during the investigation....

Something weird I had noticed I forgot who said it says " women who weren't married were considered old maids" . Then the camera flashes to Lilly who appears to be bothered by this comment

I don't think I'd ever seen this one before. It took me a while to place her, but the nosy neighbor (Dottie) is none other than Pam from The Office! Totally different characters, though.
So many funny moments in this one!

I liked this episode but when I first saw it, I didn't think it was the husband. But I liked the Lilly/Scotty then to Vera then to Jefferies then to Stillman. I liked that he was asked by the older ladies if he swung? Liked that Scotty threw the money at Jefferies but I wonder what is up with Vera. Sheesh.

I have to say after watching this episode for the first time (thanks TNT reruns!)that while at first glance it seems like the husband killed her because he was a sexist pig who wanted a wife who stay home, cook and clean etc,to me it was more than that. He might have only been gone six months but as I'm sure anyone who has a loved one who served in a war can tell you, it can seem like an eternity. And the horrors you see will stay with you forever. My uncle to this day refuses to talk about Vietnam. And when you come back from the horror of war, you want things to be the way they were, for the people to be the way they were. But as we all know, that doesn't happen. People will change in the time you're gone, and like Alice showed, most of them have no intention of going back. Sadly (and I've known a couple) troops like Nelson aren't able to accept that. It's no justification for what he did but it's not as far fetched as some of the moment of rage murders on CC have been. I will say though... that all Kate had to do was brush up against his arm and he felt pain... I find it hard to believe Alice couldn't have fought him off.
