I was thinking the same thing Naj. Ever since I saw that movie "8mm," that whole "snuff film" thing has freaked me out. The ep looks really interesting.

Spoiler space just in case..... * * * * * * * * This episode was EXCELLENT!!! When I saw that Veena Sud ("Fly Away") had written it, I was excited. I don't even know where to begin with this one. The artistic style was back!! How amazing were the flashbacks from 1979? It looked like they literally found this stuff that was filmed back then. The scene where the cops filed the "Jane Doe" box was amazing. It looked so authentic. Loved the editing in this one too. The way they switched between present and past was great. Loved the part when they zoomed in on the projector and the blue hue it gave off as they switched back to present. The interrogation scenes had interesting camera angles and shots. Two thimbs way up on the artistic value in this one! The story was so well developed and written. Daniela was an amazing person. How sad and tragic how her life ended. She felt that she had found someone who truly saw her for what she was, but when it mattered most, he denied his feelings for her. I didn't see the suicide coming until Lilly and Scotty ended up back with the boyfriend. I knew he couldn't have killed her, not after all the things he said about her being "the one." The only other possiblity was suicide. So sad. Overall, GREAT episode. This is the Cold Case I know and love! Oh, and next week's ep looks good too. "The most frightening Cold Case ever!" Can't wait.

Great points TV. This one is going to go down as a memorable episode from Season 2. "A Time To Hate" is another one in this category.
SPOILER . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I didn't look at the cast but Daniela was played by a woman or a man?

That was an interesting episode.
WARNING SPOILERS BELOW - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This episode captured 1979 perfectly. I completely forgot from earlier spoilers about the possibility of the girl being a boy. As for the ending, I was a bit surprised. We shouldn't have been. Having the boyfriend kill her was impossible seeing that was the solution to last week's episode. I noticed similarities to last season's episodes. 1. The Boy in the Box: No one went to jail and closure was given. 2. Volunteers: The black lady who always wondered what happened to the victim. 3. Disco Inferno: Self-explanatory. 4. Lost soul of Herman Lester: The father being a suspect. All in all, a great episode that Scotty a cool line, "I gotta be there for that interview." when he learns that Daniela was a boy. Oh, Naj, to answer your question about the actress playing Daniela. I believe she is a woman. CSI: Miami just reaired this episode. She was the wife of an abusive husband. During a beating, she stabs him. Calleigh has to prove he was beating her. I'm not sure but it looked just like her and Bruckheimer has used many actors over and over again on his various crime dramas. I'm going to go check it out.

This episode was good. Everything about it from the acting to the scenery to the camera angles to the clothes to the feelings of the times and even to the music was EXCELLENT! SPOILERS!!!!! I was praying that Steve (?) wasn't the one that did her/he in. I was hoping it was his ex-friend because he was a nasty *******. The look on everyone's faces when they found out that Daniela was actually Ethan ( I hope I got the name right) was timeless. Vera was hilarious. foujylos.notlong.com [/IMG] As Gomer Plyle always said "surprise, surprise, surprise!" The ending was quite sad. Steve gave up the one thing that everyone in this world wants all because he couldn't stand up to his dad. He did see Daniela for what she/he was but at those times he was fighting a losing battle and both he and Daniela payed for it. She lost her life and he lost his love. So sad. 25or6to4

Hey guys, long time no post.
Awesome episode tonight, the best I've seen so far this season. This show handles LGBT issues really sensitively and really well.
I'd expected the murderer to be Chris's father, and was surprised that it was suicide. I liked that twist (I mean this in the least morbid way possible) and the ending scene with Daniela and Chris dancing broke my heart.

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this episode. The main reason that I did is that I DID NOT figure this one out at all! I didn't even see this ending coming. The way the whole story played out and the stuff that was uncovered throughout the episode - up until the very end - WOW! I kept telling my hubby, oh, I'll bet so and so did it. Then a different fact uncovered, then I'd say, oh so he did it...etc., I kept getting it wrong!! That makes for a good show!
This was one of the best for me - next to Boy in the Box and A Time to Hate.
I also enjoyed the looks on Valens and Lilly's faces when they discovered the true identity of Daniela.
Another GREAT one!

Hi, Naj.
Daniela was indeed played by a woman, Onahoua Rodriguez. Last season she was a refugee stuck in an abusive situation on "CSI: Miami." "The Oath" (ep. 2.20, orig. airdate 4-19-04) was repeated recently outside the show's regular timeslot.
IMO, "Daniela" worked much better than the previous two, but still came up short of last year's high points.

I am really surprised at the comments here because I had the ending figured out a long time before they revealed it as being a suicide, to me it seemed like the only logical conclusion after they talked to the father.
However figuring the ending out ahead of time (which is new for me) did nothing to keep me from loving this episode, it was fantastic. They did an outstanding job on 1979. I love watching these kind of episodes with my kids because I graduated in 1979 and they love to see what things were like back in those times. It is interesting for me because I know what things were like back then but my kids have no idea as far as what was accepted back then compared to what is accepted now.
I did have to laugh though because the same basic thing happened on Veronica Mars earlier in the week, a kid was searching for his dad and it turned out his dad was now a woman. Twice in the new tv season they have covered the same topic on different shows, makes me wonder if they are running out of ideas.
Anway this episode would have to be up there with the "best of " selections because it was certainly a great story and well done, the effects were fantastic.

Amazing ep.
There were so many suspects. That John guy was awful, huh? I was watching this ep ruling everyone out as the killer and it never once dawned on me that it could be suicide but it made sense in the end. How sad.
I knew it wasn't Chris. He really loved her and I just wouldn't have bought him being the killer. I thought it may have been his dad but it would have seemed just like "Lover's Lane."
I agree they handled this difficult subject matter extremely well and the flashbacks were awesome. Loved the music here also. Fit right in. The 8mm film was really creepy and it really seemed like it was from 1979.
One minor issue though. I thought this ep was a little crude in the language department. Some of the things John, Scotty and the landlord said throughout the ep was just too vulgar for an 8:00pm sunday night show. I feel they could have gotten the same points across without being so graphic.

Anybody remember Cody Mcmains, who played John 1979, from Not Another Teen Movie and Bring It On. He was hilarious in both of those movies and it was a little hard at first to see him last nite in such a dark role but I believe he really pulled it off.

Lol im a little behind on this one, took me a while to watch all my tapes. I thought this episode did a great job at handling some difficult-to-talk-about issues. I dont know a lot about 1979, so ill take all your's words for it I never guessed that it was a suicide until the very end, because i figured Chris hadn't done it, but when he mentioned he went back, the suicide kinda clicked. Umm... i really dont have a lot to comment on about this one... strange really, it was a well written and acted out ep. And funny.*at points*

I loved this episode. Suicide was the best way to explain that death. Poor girl. Also, I think it was the first time that the murder turned out to be a suicide, wasn't it?
The only thing that annoyed me was the way they found out about it. I mean, Chris says he found her dead, and they believe it? If there was any evidence to prove he didn't do it, I totally missed it.

I just finished watching "Daniela" for the first time and thought it was a great episode.I like the music which fit with the era, i thought that guy john was an '!@* i never would of guessed suicide, but i thought it was very tragic that she took her own life.I felt sorry for chris because he lost her love because he couldn't stand up to his dad.But i thought it was very touching when chris & daniela were dancing at the end.
