Yeah me too. I was snooping over at Source Number 1 and they were all over the place about Lilly's "outbursts". WTF? I'm SO curious. I didn't even watch the preview for this one, I'm such a bad fan.

Yes, DF, I would consider you a bad fan. I thought Lilly was a bit harsh at times with the mom. Lesson learned, hopefully, is don't jump to conclusions unless you have all the facts.

This was a tragic episode -- a mother losing all her children like that. The Thanksgiving scene was well done-a mom and her boys later reduced to not being able to prepare a Thanksgiving meal only to lose another son. It was awful.
I liked the scene of Lilly in the CC area trying to convince the youngest not to follow his brothers choices.
Vera helping the pregnant girl and taking her to the clinic was interesting. He still had his fair share of quips in the episode. "That's a good attitude, doughboy!"
I'm not sure that I like Lilly's hair down but I think it has more to do with her makeup color. They've paled her out. I don't particularly like that.
And J o s ie, I'm glad you are gone. I'm tired of hearing references to this character in now ep six. The statement at the beginning of the episode was enough that needed to be said.

I thought this was an excellent episode, and it easily earned a place on my all time favs list! Everything in this episode worked. I'll try to explain what I mean, but it was the case, the balance of the other characters and the Lilly-centric nature of it. This episode really broke my heart!
If the producers and writers are determined to turn this show into a more ensemble set up, then this is the episode to hold up as the example on how to do it well. They managed to give all of the detectives significant time and plenty to do, while also giving the episode a Lilly-centric feel. After all, this was her first case (BTW, didn't we want them to explore a case that Lilly worked and never solved? It was nice to get this). I LOVED the flashback to 1999 when Lilly was working the scene. Hair and make-up did a fantastic job of making Lilly look younger and extremely naive! Kathryn did a fabulous job as well moving from the current Lilly to her younger self. Loved Scotty's scene in the hospital and Vera's with Miguel's pregnant girlfriend. Lilly was tough in this episode, and it was nice to see a return to that aspect of her character.
Regarding Lilly's "outbreaks," I really think she was an emotional mess with this case. She blamed herself for not solving the first murder, which led to the other three, the mother turning to drugs and Patrick's shortcomings at school. Plus, she was grappling with the idea that she was becoming like her first partner - uncaring and disconnected. Solving the case wasn't enough for her, she wanted everyone associated with the gang responsible for the Bubley boys' murders to suffer, but that just wasn't going to happen. Sometimes you have to let the lesser of the two evils go in order to catch the worse ones. I liked the fact that this episode ended with its usual sense of hope, but also the realization that everything doesn't always get wrapped up in a pretty package. Kathryn was excellent navigating through Lilly's emotions last night. She was all over the map, and ready to breakdown any minute. I think Lilly's poignant scene with Patrick was a really nice moment for her and made her realize that she could make a difference and "keep from hating them" like they hated cops.
This episode was different in that it focused less on who killed the boys and more on how the four murders affected the family. It would have seemed callous if they had simply focused on the investigating and brushed over the effect something as horrible as this would have on those left behind. We pretty much knew all along who was responsible, but it was seeing the journey that the family took over the six-year period that gave this episode its strength. The tremendous guilt that Lilly felt just added to an already emotional case. Four brothers died over a scooter. It's just so tragic and sad. I thought the juxtaposition of this episode was nicely done. It opened with a happy Thanksgiving dinner scene form 1999, and moved to present day, where a very different picture was painted. Gone was the laughter, happiness, and strong sense of family and in their place was sorrow, wrecked lives, murdered family members and a loss of hope as each brother tried to right the wrong of his brothers' murders.
I know that there is more that I want to say about this episode, but I'll shut up for now. I found it to be very moving and exceptionally well done.

Wow TVFan you have summed up everything I wanted to say really well and I totally agree with everything. This was an amazing episode. I had high expectations for it and I wasn't let down at all. Like TVFan I think this will go down as one of my all time favourites. It was very Lilly-centric which of course is fantastic but they guys also had a good share of the story and it just seemed there was lots of all of them in this episode compared to any so far this season. I thought the no-drugs-today part was excellent and it shows consistency in the writing of the show and reminded me of when the guys did that in Glued back in season 1. I agree they did a great job on making Kathryn look different and she played the role of Lilly back in 1999 absolutely brilliantly!! I liked how she was almost crying when the family were almost in disbelief and then when she hugged Patrick. Kathryn was just amazing in this episode. She was all over the place but like TVFan said you can tell why. She must have felt a huge sense of guilt that if they had solved the case in 1999 the family wouldn't have suffered quite so much. The looks she got from Jeffries and Scotty when she kinda lost it those couple of times was great and how when Maeve left the interrogation room Scotty looked at Lilly and she couldn't look back at him. Just another sign that Lilly really does everything she can to hide her feelings from anyone. Lilly's scene with Patrick in the room with the case files was great and I think she found it difficult to fathom that all this happened because of scooter. I loved the scene in the montage of all of them in the bar. Scotty smoking a cigar!! and Lilly with an alcoholic drink was that?? They all looked happy that the case was solved and obviously celebrating but with Lilly who was not so happy was obviously aware that just cos the murders had been solved things weren't instantly going to change for Maeve and Patrick. Overall a really great episode. Far better than any other episode this season.

I do have some questions on this. Some things I didn't get or just totally missed. I enjoyed the manner in how this episode began. Something new. The whole team being called out on a triple murder to discover a Cold Case mystery. The actor who played the mother gave a stellar performance. and young Patrick was a dear. The younger Lilly detective was totally convincing. We see she has learned alot in the last six years. The scene where she had to tell them all Vaughn was dead was very sad for the entire family. "White Police Woman's Bull" (Mauve about Lilly) After reviewing the balcony scene again. Lilly was speaking to Mauve and relating how Mauve thought Lilly didn't care. Her first partner Ben Fullcrum always referring to things so detached from his job. (NHI) So it got to Liily how not to hate those she tries to help that hate her. (liked the underscore in this balcony scene kinda like some of the classical arrangements from the Hunger) Mave's interrogation scene and hatred towards Lilly: "You are one tight-*ss b*tch." Wow. She kinda reminds me of the woman in ravaged with her addiction (Sloane). I can feel her internat torment. the scene at the restaurant...I don't understand why the police weren't called on Cedric by those in the restaurant So no one reported Cedric dead? I don't understand this part. The second interrogation of Mauve. "Crack making you deaf?" Lilly flew off there but Cedric was left in a dumpster dead. All Mauve wanted to know was where Cedric was but had to do things for it (again just like the Sloane in Ravaged kinda) The second Thanksgiving was in 2001? when Cedric was killed? and Mauve was already hooked on crack and lost her job. Boys trying to take care of her. So all this happened because they were playing with a scooter down a certain alley. The best scene was Lilly with Patrick in the Cold Case stacks. Second best: Younger Lilly - I was sold. I don't understand what essay Patrick wrote. anyone?

*Crawls up from under the table*
Gee, I think I fainted there for a while.. WHAT AN EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everything was just perfect! It's like adding up for the lack of Lilly-time this season! To me, this was a season premiere! My heart was torn from beginning to end. Over the case, the mum, the boys, Lilly.. everything!
And the balcony scene! What can I say?! Someone give me a tissue! This is like what we've been waiting for this whole season!
The guys really had some spark too, in this one! I just had to laugh to the hospital scene with Scotty driving that guy over the edge.. What's happened to Scotty?! Lol, he's gotten hard! Allthough, I loved the look on his face when that little girl yelled "five-o, five-o" after Scotty trying to shush on her.. And Vera taking that girl to the clinic, ohh, good-old-soft-hearted-Vera:)
And 1999-Lilly!! Wow, like a little girl!! I felt so sorry for her, it was like she didn't fit in there, she was so overwhelmed by it all...
And the music, I LOVED it!! It just knitted all together so neatly! I especially loved how they'd put the underscore on the "fast forward" of Philly and Lil and Boss on the balcony...
I've gotta say I was scared for some secs when Lil had that outbreak on the chair. Aannd the yelling to Mauve-part.. And when she tells Patrick to "get off my face"... Man, Stuff is really happening to her! All those emotions that have been locked up for so long are finally coming to show..
As someone mentioned, I think too there's one scene in the preview that wasn't in the ep. I couldn't see the scene where Lilly sorta puts her hand to her mouth.. Maybe it's just me.. I've GOTTA watch this one again tonight!
*Walks out with a happy-face*
