I'm just gonna paste what I wrote on source #1 here to save some typing:
This ep is officially my favorite from Season 3 so far, and it will probably remain that way, because of how strong this episode was....Amazing. All the actors were fabulous as usual, especially Kathryn---WHAT a performance! At the flashback scene back to '99 there was that rare sense of insecurity when Lil said "I've never done this before"...Poor Lilly, she was so new to everything! And the part when Patrick hugged her----priceless. And when that glow from the light was on her at the balcony scene with Stillman, KM looked absolutely gorgeous (well, not like she isn't usually. She's always so perfect)...When she was being pressured like that and when Maeve insulted her I just wanted to reach out and hug her...through the television.
Hehe there were a lot of funny parts too...the slushies scene: "Lemon, lemon, and lemon" "No cherry?" "Just lemon." And also the part where Scotty was interviewing Carlos, (was that his name? I got confused with all the names here....) and he kept hitting him on his broken leg, and when he was done he said "Thanks Carlos" and purpously hit him on his leg with his notepad!!!
So I guess "Josie chippy" is gone? She's on 'leave' forever? lol! But who knows maybe she'll come back.....
I loved this ep. I really did. For those who didn't see it, YOU MUST SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
(Once I come out of my dark little shell and actually post more on here I will be posting crazy things like this here....just a warning beware of my insane ways. ask anyone on source #1 lol)

This was a really good episode. KM did a really good job with this episode. I was wondering if anyone else thinks that maybe part of the reason that Lily lost it a little with Maeve could have been her own expierences with her alcoholic mother. Or was it just me?
On another note one of my favoirte parts of the episode was when that guy pulls up to the dealer's place with Scotty, Valens, and Jeffreys sitting out front and I commented to myself on how stupid he is and then like ten seconds later Scotty says just about the same thing and they all pull out their badges and he peals out of there. Hee!

Classictvchic, woo! It's great to see you over here! Your posts are always so...uh, energetic?? haha. I hope you come "out of your shell" soon.
anna415: I thought that too, about Lily partially losing it because of her alcoholic mother. Haha, loved that part when the guy pulled up to the dealers place too. I thought that scene was great. I LOVED how they worked in the classic "no drugs today" line from season 1. That made my day! (Doesn't take too much to keep me happy! hehe)

OMG. There's very little left to say, just... OMG. And believe me it takes a lot to leave Disasterfreak speechless! This episode was just amazing. It totally blew me away. Writing perfect, dialogs perfect, tension perfect--case perfect. I loved those boys, I think their story is not unrealistic (I grew up with lots of boys in similar situations, and sometimes I wonder what happened to them)... it was heartwrenching almost beyond tears. Just horrible, bleak reality, no fluff on the side. I don't know about the rest of you, but both Lilly's outbursts AND her scene in the balcony with Stillman made perfect sense to me. I know some of you were confused about how this last one fit in with the episode. Truth is, when you work with people, it's almost impossible to be neutral--either you completely shut yourself off, or you get too involved. And I can understand Lilly "not wanting to hate them back". Sometimes I feel the same way! Stillman was really sweet in his advice to her. This was probably the closest to a Lilly heart-to-heart we're gonna get, for a while at least. And as for Lilly exploding... well, it was a matter of time. She was under a lot of stress last year, she's probably feeling frustrated and unhappy and ineffective--that added to how horrible this whole "failure" of hers turned out to be, the emotional baggage of feeling herself turning into NHI, AND the George thing last year (which probably brought a lot of feelings much closer to the surface), is way enough to make her blow up IMO. Professional? No. Human? Yes. I loved the WTF looks the others gave her, like they couldn't believe this was their Lilly acting this way. Last but not least, gotta love the "first season" feel to this episode. So strong, so human, so real. All the characters great at their roles, Lilly back to her own tough self, but always with a glimmer of human compassion peeking through (anyone notice even her voice was deeper-pitched in this ep? It had been getting really high of late). Perfect. This episode was really perfect. A little gem I'd only store up next to Fly Away. Finally--welcome, season 3!

This episode ruled. Despite not being able to get into the chat last night, the show was good. By the way, I fixed the problem. This episode took some new directions. Showing three bodies in three different years. A new reason to look into the old cases. Lily showing a passionate side and angry one as well. For a more recent murder it was well done. And no "Josie chippy". The show really seemed back on track. They should go back and reshoot the first five without her. There was a difference. I didn't recognize any of the songs this time around. But it was a good episode.

Hello all,
Does ANYONE have the song list from this episode, "Saving Patrick Bubley". I believe that the last song played was a song by PM Dawn. Someone help please get me the name of the song!
Thank you!

I totally forgot to mention the "No Drugs Today," and I feel that I must rectify the situation. I seriously wanted to hug the writers for bringing this back. It's one of my favorite Cold Case-isms.
Also, I 100% agree with everything you said disasterfreak!
I think this is dead on sukkerspin. We've been saying on here for a while that Lilly needs to vent or she's going to explode, and I think we witnessed phase one of said explosion the other night. I'm definitely noticing a change in her this season. You can tell that she has been through something and it's affecting her more than she cares to admit. She seemed embarrassed when she attacked Maeve and Scotty looked at her with that WTF look.
Lilly tries so hard to shut everyone out and put on a controlled front, and this season we've seen all of this start to crack. This episode was the most obvious, and I think it bothered her that she let her emotions get the better of her. If she can help it, she'll probably try to go even deeper inside of herself like she did when the whole thing with Kite went sour.
Naj - I think Miguel caught up with Cedric later that evening well after the restaurant encounter. He probably killed him somewhere else and dumped him in the garbage bin and the police hadn't found his body yet. I'm guessing no one called the police at the restaurant because everyone feared that they wouldn't live to tell their tale. I think the O's, in particular, created a huge cloud of fear in the neighborhood and no one dare take action. That was just my take on it. Oh, and I couldn't agree more with younger Lilly, I was so sold as well.
I agree with everyone who has said that they LOVED the balcony scene. Awesome scene!

DF hit on a point that I was thinking about also... That this ep was in a way sort of a bookend to the whole George thing. Remember one of the last things George says to Lilly -- "When you kill me, those photos you cling to will fade away..." I've always wondered what George meant by that line. I think this ep in a way explains it for me. That he was talking about losing her compassion for the victims. Would have been great if they would have used this as a nice ending to a multi-story arc about Lilly's downward slide post-George.. but oh well I'll echo that it was a very good episode. Almost a mini-epic like Mind Hunter with lots of different little stories and threads running through it. And it felt--finally--like a true "Season 3" episode. There were a few new scenes and techniques that gave it a different look than what we've seen in the previous 2 seasons. The "action" scene at the end where they drive the one drug dealer to the abandoned area and talk him into turning in his cousin is one type of scene that scened totally new to the series. Another one--the balcony scene--I can't recall ever seeing the balcony from that angle. Just seeing Lilly lit by the sunset was really nice. And of course the piano score that went with it. Lilly bringing Patrick into the top-secret file room! Wow! What an awesome idea by the writer of the ep! Such a great visual when Lilly shows him the empty spot where his file could be. And finally Jeremy Ratchford's acting in the Vera-clinic scene was just awesome. He seemed totally real and not the "lampoon" Vera that we see alot of. SO where's our Lilly Hair Poll? There were some differing opinions on whether Lilly's hair is better down or up!

YAY this was probably the best ep it was classic cold case, it's now back to the way it use to be, i feel so sorry for Lilly do you think from now on that now UN-utterable is gone they are going to start on the repercussions of what happened with Lilly and George?
i love her hair down and it looks like she is going to have it down again in next weeks ep as well Yay she looks so pretty with her hair down

This was definitely a missed opportunity irishkale. Maybe this episode was meant to be the beginning? Maybe Lilly has been keeping all of that George stuff pent up inside since the finale, and it finally surfaced the other night. The question is, will the writers take us through her journey now, or pretend like nothing happened. I'm hoping it's the former, but I'm expecting the latter just knowing how things tend to go. Either way, I'm very grateful for this episode, at least.
Regarding your point, I never thought of that, but I think it's very valid. It makes complete sense that in addition to what Lilly was dealing with, with this case being one she worked on several years back, there's also the added dimension of the George Effect. The photos that she "clings to" fading away could signify her compassion and sense of humanity. This case tested all of that for her, and I bet that somewhere deep in her mind she kept hearing George's words along with her ex-partner's. Great observation irishkale!

Forgot to mention ... When "WebD" was revealed it kinda reminded me of the film "Citizen Kane." WebD = Rosebud. Hafta watch the DVD again to see if they put in any references into the CC ep.
Another thing.. at the end, during the closing montage, Lilly sees her ex-partner in the mirror, then he gets "wiped" away. Was it revealed that he was dead, or just retired? (it seemed like only dead people get the "ghost" treatment in the ending montage.)

I think he alive, but retired. This confused me as well. After thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that she was seeing herself as him (like she said earlier about if she sees him in the mirror that will be the day she quits), and then she realized that she was different, so his image left her vision in the mirror. Does that make sense?
