I saw COLD CASE was rated 20th this week. I think the writers have to take a cue from Veena Sud and write better episodes. The first episode this season was great, but in my opinion its been all down hill since. There should be a bigger distinction between the "good guys and bad guys" and more detective interaction.

First of all, Lilly loves Joseph but realizes that in order for their realtionship to work , she's got to be the one who's really happy inside. Joseph knows is boundaries with her and knows which ones not to cross, he also gives her space and doesn't bombard her all the time. Sure it was too early for him to say those beautiful words but he wanted to tell her. Lilly unexpecting it , her deepest emotions bubbled over to the surface. He is perfect for her and understanding especially when it comes to her job..
On the other hand, Ray shows up out of the blue and asks for a favor. He tries to impress her but he is still living in the past and sees Lilly as the wild carefree 19yr old that he knew but fails to see the grownup , mature part of Lilly that she is now. Meanwhile Joseph sees her as is and not her faults ( cooking ,bad childhood) , he also knows when to play and time to work.

All right, question from me! I've only seen the two clips from this ep that have Joseph in them (both of the three little words scenes!) and I want to know if Vera and Jeffries tell the rest of the team that Lil is seeing Joseph. Seeing as she lied about it to Vera and Scotty before (Ps who the hell says docking their tugboat? Really?). Even though I haven't seen the entire ep, I'm gonna throw in my ten cents because everyone knows I'm all for the Ray. It's obvious he's hung up on Lilly. Why else reappear in her life after ending things, what, 15 years ago? So he needs help with something. Which is why it's always nice to know a Detective. But I'm sure if Lil owned a Harley and was having problems with it... I mean, you ask people you know for help if you need it. That's the upside of knowing people! And I don't think Lil has reconciled her feelings about Joseph (was that not the most awkward ILU ever? Not even able to look J in the eyes. And he knew it, too.) Afraid she'll be left again, wondering if she can love this guy as much as he loves her, then in rides the black knight (this would be Ray) right into the middle of her confusion. Sure, Ray's left her plenty of times but he always comes back. He's not stable, but he's a vague constant that she can probably rely on at times. And, let's face it, the man is off the richter scale of spunkratness. Official stud muffin. Hot. And he's a bad boy. We know Lil isn't opposed to stepping outside the box; taking a sick day, foregoing Thursday night drinks. Okay, I'm just hoping she picks Ray eventually. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him a lot more on our screen! Of course, it's never going to happen. Most of the fanbase would revolt. But a girl can dream .

Maybe Lilly will realize that neither or them are right for her. But I am hoping she picks Joseph

i hope she just picks someone no one should be alone forever. i think Joseph knew vera and jeffries were coming thats why he stepped back and was all fidgetty. i think he thinks that telling lily he loves her was right but has backed off incase she gets rid of him. i think they both have put their walls up except joseph is willing to break them down a bit. by telling ray she couldnt help him was like a loyalty to joseph and she knows the chemiostry her and ray have so she made the decision to back away. i cant reaally explain it but i think she loves joseph or at least wants love joseph.

I think you're right, hippychick that she wants to love Joseph. But wanting something and having/doing something are different. maybe an instant connection wasn't enough for them? Or for Lilly. We all know Joseph 'definitely' loves her (how cute was that bit. hee.)

Maybe she's afraid that he'll reject her like her father did when she was six, I think it all has to something to do with him combined what happened when she was 10. Somehow I think that Joseph does see the pain in her eyes but doesn't question it, he knows that it's eating her up inside

Seems like whenever there's an episode dealing with a detective's personal life, people have little to say about the case. But I'll start something:
Kudos to L. Scott Caldwell as the present day version of Alice. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who knows her best as Rose on "Lost", but with the different hair, make-up, and accent, she not only gave us a totally different character than Rose but totally convinced me she was 20-25 years older than she actually is.
Conversely, I think the present day versions of Bobby and Mateo looked way too young. They looked like they were in their fifties or sixties when they should've looked like they were in their eighties. I suppose there might be a shortage of octogenarian actors working but the actors from "Factory Girls" (another case from the 40's) all looked age-appropriate.
I don't know why but Bobby turning out to be the killer fell a little flat for me. Maybe it was the indifference he showed but neither the revelation, nor the murder itself seemed to pack the punch it usually does.
I also wish Mateo had gotten some sort of comeuppance from Jeffries (though I guess fifty years in prison is one form, isn't it?). Maybe it's just wishful thinking. After all, I'm still waiting for one of the guys to give that abusive husband from "Mind Hunters" a smack around.
P.S. Anyone else notice we've had a few "Lost" players on the show over the years? Maggie Grace (Shannon) was in "Volunteers", Daniel Roebuck (Arzt, the guy that went kaboom!) was in "Kensington", and Sam Anderson (Bernard) was in "Joseph", and now the afore-mentioned "Rose"! When will Josh Holloway or Terry O'Quinn show up in a flashback? ;D

I didn't even realize that that was Rose!! Awesome job by L. Scott Caldwell, indeed. I knew she was familar, but I never would have guessed that was her. Thanks for the info, toddsmitts.
Not only Lost, but a lot of regular/semi-regular cast members from Veronica Mars have been on CC as well. And it's not just cast members, but both CC and VM have shared directors in the past.

I knew I had seen her somwhere, but since they did such a good job on her make-up I could not figure it out. Thanks toddsmitts.

I don't get why you all disliked this episode so much. I thought the case was pretty good. The 1948 flashbacks were well done and the characters were pretty interesting as a whole. Only thing I didn't like was the killer--mostly because I liked the character so much. Didn't really buy his reason for offing Donovan. People are greedy but not THAT much. I would've understood it more if he'd killed him because he'd dishonored his sister, or in a blind rage or something. And I would've liked best of all if they'd made the s.o.b. boss be the killer. I'm sure he was capable of it! But Bobby, all premeditated like that? No way in h*ll.
As for the Lilly/Joseph scene, guess my comments are better left unsaid. I honestly dislike Lilly when she's with Joseph. She sounds, looks, and acts like a twit.
Surprisingly enough, I hated the Ray scenes less than I'd anticipated. He's got the puppy dog-eye thing down pat, but Lilly didn't buy it. There was the slightest hint of old Lilly shining through there, when she blew him off. Firm but sympathetic. Knowing what I know now about her and Ray, and if she hadn't been such an absolute doozy with him last season, I might've actually appreciated their interaction.
EDIT: I so had not noticed it was Rose from "Lost". Absolutely stunned, and she well deserves her kudos.

Tomorrow at 3pm EST... 12pm PST.
EDIT: Just saw the episode I recorded and I liked it. I loved Vera getting in Joesph's face when he and Jefferies walked up to Lilly and Joesph.
Why did Stillman see Nate's ghost?
Do we assume that Stillman knew Joesph was going out with Lilly?
