Even though I really like this episode, I don't know if this gets into my all-time favorites because I find some of the characters and acting rather flat. Still, though, the father did a really good performance, and some of the storyline contrasts with what I saw last week in "Revolution". I'll comment more on this later after the holidays. Anyway, very significant, I believe, is Jeffries reaction when hearing Laurie's father talk about his wife's death. I think y'all should look at that again; Thom Barry does an *excellent* job in that scene.... and he barely says a word!! Awesome. This Jeffries-background scene follows in the footsteps of last week's "Colors", another Jeffries-heavy episode, and a small mention of his love of Country music in "The Red and The Blue" the week before. It really looks like we're being set up for some Jeffries stuff when the show returns to season four in 2007. BTW, If any of y'all are watcing Without A Trace right now.... YUP!!! That's Christina Hendricks again!! She was the "white-looking black girlfriend" in "Colors" last week, and this week she's the "disappearee" in WaT. Happy New Year, everyone! I'll see y'all in 2007!!

I think I noticed something when Dirk said that Laurie was his rock. Isn't that true about Lilly being Scotty's rock that she had always been there for him??

This was a sad episode but still not really liking "Josie chippy".
Glad the councilman got arrested but I don't know if the charge Manny has against him would be dropped since I thought everyone on that fraternity lawyered up. I liked the talk between Stillman and Avery as well as with Dirk at the end.

Just re-watched this one. I forgot how damn sad it was at the end, that scene when Laurie was stuck and talking to Dirk had me tearing up. Just felt so sorry for Dirk, something about the fact that we know he listens to her last wish (not to leave her father alone) makes it all the more heart-breaking.
That said it was a little hard to believe that Laurie and Dirk wouldn’t have been able to see that something was going to happen at that party. The episode indicated that they’d both been bullied a lot growing up, and yet it seems Laurie can’t see that those guys are sneering at her in the cafeteria, and Dirk doesn’t try to convince her not to show up. And why would she have wanted to go anyway? Everything about Laurie said she knew she wouldn’t enjoy it; I suppose a certain amount can be put down to her trusting Dirk though. He wanted to fit in, so he was going to go no matter what, and she probably just wanted to spend time with him so much that she couldn’t be convinced not to go, despite knowing those guys only invited her to make fun of her. That’s the only explanation I can think of. Basically:
Dirk wants to fit in. Dirk drifts away from Laurie to do so. Laurie doesn’t care about fitting in, but cares about Dirk. Laurie decides to go to the party because if she can fit in too, she can still be close to Dirk.
As for the Scotty stuff, maybe it was just me, but I kind of saw it as him being nosy. With Vera encouraging the rumours, he’s curious to find out if it’s true or not. Because, if he was trying to hit on her, it was a pretty awful way of doing it, but if he was trying to get info out of her? Bringing up his own related screw up with Chris and hoping it encourages her to reveal all, isn’t that bad of a plan.
