Ok, if "flogging the bishop" is indeed a term for masturbating, why would the accused have asked Jeffries "Is your wife still flogging the bishop?".
Does this make any sense??

I had a questions concerning something one of the kids (now an adult) said to Jeffries. Something about his "wife and the bishop?", and then Jeffries replied that his wife died 9 years ago. Does anybody remember what exactly was said and what he meant?? "Your wife still flog the bishop or did she stop doing that 100 years ago?" "My wife's dead__nine years ago." flog To beat severely with a whip or rod. v 1: beat severely with a whip or rod; "The teacher often flogged the students" [syn: welt, whip, lather, lash, slash, strap, trounce] 2: beat with a cane [syn: cane, lambaste, lambast] Source: WordNet ® 1.6, © 1997 Princeton University I've never heard of the phrase before meaning something sexual....so I don't have a clue either. ~Naj

RE: "Your wife still flog the bishop or did she stop doing that 100 years ago?"
"My wife's dead__nine years ago."
I think that the kid was trying to be a 'street smart wisebutt and get Jeffries riled up by talking "dirty" about Jeffries' wife. When the response was that the wife was dead, the kid really deflated in his attitude.

It confused me too, but I came to the same conclusion as Mao. (Either that or the phrase has other sexual connotations besides just masturbating? If so I've never heard of them, but that doesn't mean much.)

this episode taught me that maybe I shouldn't read so much spoilers - I read the recap, and since I already knew who had done it, I wasn't really thrilled when I finally watched the episode yesterday. well anyway, I really liked the moment when Nick, Will and Lilly are interrogating the three boys at the same time. All the scenes were in a sequence that made sense. Lilly didn't want the boys to be charged with murder after they confessed.... I disagreed with that. I felt sorry for them, that Nash was really a jerk, but they almost killed a man (and I think they would have killed him if they didn't hear anyone coming). Nothing can justify that. I don't think they should have been released in the end, they should have stayed locked up for a while (for agression maybe?). The shooting scene was cool, but was too quick ! I wish it lasted a bit longer before Dominic shot himself. The scenes between Scotty and Elisa were so touching. I wasn't really interested in that storyline but I am now. Scotty is a really nice man, he's there for Elisa all the time... I don't understand why, when he first came into the show, the writers made us believe that Scotty was the kind of guy who dates a lot of girls at the same time when he's not like that at all. Maybe they had different plans for him at that point I guess.

Wow, this episode was so sad and yet sadly realistic (sp?) it makes me sick though, children need protecting 24/7 and sadly there are times when you can't protect them 24/7. Lil, was brave when she tried to stop the boy from killing himself, but erm, if it was reality then he wouldn't have lived and yet the ending showed him grasping Lilly hand. This is one of the best episodes I feel, poor Scotty he needed a hug nice to see that a real man doesn't hide his emotions and isn't afriad to let himself good on you my son (lol). The acting from all 2 guys the young and old uns was truly amazing.

How old is Scotty Valens suppose to be?

Among my six top episodes. Only the Valens-Elisa scenes feel extraneous (they'd fit as well in most any other episode), but I welcome anything that moves Scotty out of the flow. Director Agnieszka Holland draws strong performances from all the boys (the present-day Jerry [Noel Fisher] and Dominic [Jason Dohring] merit a salute), and the filthy colors of the pool and locker room recall the masterpiece of the swimming pool / horror genre, Jerzy Skolimowski's "Deep End" (1970). (As a fellow Pole, Holland no doubt knows it.) And the regulars are more than usually challenged by the elevated emotional pitch. I'm not so sure about the climax. Dominic squeezes Lilly's hand, but the wounds and hospital breathing apparatus have disappeared; Lilly may be willing a happier ending into existence. Her sympathies stick out "like a bad dye job," as Dominic calls her tactics during his interrogation. Add one of the show's bull's-eye musical finales (Aimee Mann's "Wise Up," off the "Magnolia" soundtrack), and one leaves both shaken and stirred.

I thought it was the young Dominic that squeezed her hand and then they came forward showing us he was dead--as a thank you? Either way it was a tragic ending for sure.

I just realized that I never commented on this ep the first time around. It's definitely one of the most powerful of the season. I have to agree with Blankregus about the guest actors. They were incredible! Truly moving performances from each of them. This is one of those episodes that just gets to you in your gut. When it ended, I found myself just sitting there for a moment. The ending musical choice was brillant.
The ending when Lilly took Dominic's hand, I too thought that the younger Dominic squeezed her hand and was shown without bandages. I think Lilly was just reflecting on how he came to the current point in his life. She seemed to almost blame herself for his suicide attempt. I remember her saying b/f she went into the interrogation room with him that she didn't want to ruin another boy's life. After the interrogation, we see Dominic turn a loaded gun on himself. I'm not sure whether he died at the end or not. If he did live, his life won't be easy with everything he has been through. So tragic and sad.

I watched this episode again in a rerun today The Lilly-Dominic interview is THE BEST (yep, the best) interview I have watched ever on this show! The episode was excellent but a bit disturbing(That Nash was so creepy!) It was a shame what happened to Dominic... Jason Dohring is such a great actor, you could feel the anger and the pain when he was talking... I liked when he said "I killed that pervert" OMG! EXCELLENT EPISODE!

Didn't care for the storyline but the Elisa/Scotty story sure made it interesting. I liked that he was worried about her and liked that Stillman asked Lilly a question.
The guy did deserve to die but I thought Dominic survived his shooting himself?
