What a great episode! Stillman was perfect for this story. A very well written interrogation he had with Ken. Definitely a keeper ep for this season. I've never thought too much about what the POW's had to endure. Carl suffered on so many levels and there are thousands of Carl's out there. I felt like I could feel all his broken bones and his emotional tormet having to come back that way he did and the reasons why he came back and was received unfavorably.
Wm R. Moses. I was happy to see him in this episode. He had a part on the successful night drama "Falcon Crest" back in the 80's early 90's.
Vera had a great line tonight. I'll post that up in General.

Loved this episode. But that might be because I adore the actor who plays young Daniel. I don't mind the new detective so far. It's pretty obvious she wants to switch from narcotics to homicide though. Will see how that plays out.

Good morning everyone, Hello, it's the Byrdman coming at you this morning. I hope everyone is ready to rock and roll through a great Thanksgiving week, like I am! I echo Naj's sentiments here. Stillman was excellent in this ep. But I also wanted to note that this was one of the BEST soundtracks that I have ever heard in an ep! Man, so many great hits! "Rocket Man", "Draggin' The Line", "If You Could Read My Mind." Rocking! Thanks for your attention, and take care today, everyone!

They had three strong eps in a row with more of the old feeling of the show beginning with Saving Patrick Bubley. I'm definetly rewatching this one to pick up everything I missed. byrdman, the 70's must be very popular for you. I grew up during that time too but I've got to give the nod to last week's soundtrack. However I do like Gordon Lightfoot and thought that was an excellent selection for the closing song.

Fairly good ep, but not as good as the previous two. But the story was moving, and I liked getting to know more about Stillman! I also loved the cemetary scene *gah* I don't hope this new one is gonna be a part of the team, then I think I will explode or somethin...

Overall, a really strong episode. I didn't think I would like it as much as I thought I would. I felt so bad for Carl and his situation. I also liked that we got to see more Stillman in this episode. And I really enjoyed the music as well!

Wow, another great episode! I don't often get very emotional but I did well up in the very final scene when Stillman saw Carl. I think the guy who played Carl did a great job. I really felt for the character. He looked so pained and in so much turmoil over what he had done to get home, yet at the same time he was so brave to endure 5 years as a PoW. Stillman was great and it was nice to see more of him in this episode. And although the episode wasn't focused on Lilly I still feel as though I got enough of her in this episode. As always she looked amazing and I loved her reactions to Carl's alcoholic wife. She knew all the right things to say like with the coffee thing. There were some really lovely close up shots of her too. They did that camera thing again that they did in the first ep when Stillman, Lilly and Scotty were talking; you know the camera moving round in a circle thing. I thought that worked really well. It was nice to see Scotty and Lilly working together again and it was nice to have Scotty in the back seat this episode. Now the thing I'm becoming disappointed in is that it is now episode 8 and still we have seen NOTHING of lilly outside work!! I mean, where are Olivia and Tripod? I wanna see them. I wanna see Lilly in her out of hours clothes and in a social and not work situation!! Please, it's gotta come soon!!! New detective - okay I guess. They didn't shove her down our throats like they did Sutton and she seemed okay, kinda laid back and as though she will just be easy going and go with the flow. We will see when she appears in it more though, but they did introduce her subtly which was avery wise idea!! Overall another great episode! This season is actually back on track, woo hoo, and this was episode 3 right!!!!!! :smile31: :smile31: :smile31: :smile31:

I have to agree with everyone and say that this was a very strong episode. The writing was very good on this one. I agree with byrdman about the soundtrack. It was awesome! I LOVE Elton John and "Rocket Man" is like my all time fav of his! Needless to say, this ep started out on the right foot. It also had an excellent closing montage, especially the scene at the cemetary. I loved the shot of Lilly turning and walking away under her oversized umbrella. It reminded me of the closing shot of "Maternal Instincts."
It was so nice to have a Stillman-heavy episode. As I have said before, I enjoy having episodes thrown in from time to time that give us more insight into the other characters. As much as I adore Lilly, I also really like the others as well. This show has far too many fascinating characters to ignore any of them (yes, including Scotty as long as it's not an overload). This season has had the right balance of each character so far IMO. John Finn did an excellent job last night. I LOVED his interrogation scene with Ken. He played it so well by joking around with him in the beginning and moving to outrage at Ken's hideous lie. I didn't believe Ken had the guts to kill anyone, but I still enjoyed Stillman's interrogation. The guy needed to hear about what he did from someone who really went to Vietnam and saw the terrible sites first hand. The episode managed to give us more on Stillman without making the entire episode about it. In fact, this episode was VERY case heavy. I liked the overall subtlty.
The case was very sad. As someone who wasn't alive during this conflict, it was interesting to me to see what soldiers went through. It broke my heart when Carl told his wife he couldn't dance anymore because his arms had been broken too many times. But, it wasn't the physical damage that broke Carl the most. It was his own mental conflict over what he had done to get himself home sooner. He did what he had do after being emotionally broken, but he blamed himself for Rex's death. It was a hard burden to bare, and I think Lilly may have been right when she said that Carl wanted to take his own life but someone got there first. Even after Daniel shot him, he told him to leave and save himself, but he didn't ask for any help. I think he was okay with dying because of what he felt like he did wrong. Allowing Daniel to flee the scene was his way of somewhat making up for Daniel's father's death. I just felt so bad for Ned because he never really knew his father and then his father dies from a gun shot wound at home.
The one weak spot to this episode was the completely not needed pot storyline. They barely developed it, it didn't lead to anything, advance the story, or reveal the killer. In fact, there was only a blink-and-you-miss-it mention in the final scenes when Carl took it away from Daniel in an effort to keep him off drugs. Not sure why they put it in there in the first place.
Overall, another strong outing. We've had a very strong run of late, and I feel like the season has finally started. It's really nice to have just the five detectives we know and love. We only got to see this narcotics detective for two scenes, so the verdict is still out on her.

I think that the pot was a bit important because it was a part of the link to the drug house where they found the bracelets. They needed to settle that Carl wasn't doing drugs somehow, and I think this was a pretty good way to do that. Kudos to a excellent episode, the first one in a long time that had me on the verge of crying. Just watching Carl suffer like that after all he'd been through was very moving. And the soundtrack was excellent.

Dear Naj and TVFan, Good evening, ladies! Thank you for getting back with me on this. I'm so glad that you girls liked this soundtrack as I did. Yes, Naj, the 70s are very popular for me. Some of the best music ever made, I think. So, you grew up during the 70s, huh? Very cool, and cool that you like Gordon Lightfoot as well. "If you could read my mind, love. What a tale my thoughts could tell..." Do you like Elton John and "Draggin' The Line" also? I was rocking last night. I remembered that during the opening I was so busy singing along to "Rocket Man" that I missed most of the story details! Also, thanks so much for your agreement, TVFan. Yeah, I knew you were an Elton John girl, and that you liked "Rocket Man" too. So, were you singing along just as I was at the beginning? I'm so glad you girls liked the music too, and I hope you had as rocking a time as I did last night too! Take care, and have a great night!

This was a very good episode. I really wish that I hadn't been distracted during the first 15 minutes or so (trying to resolve computer issues.) But the episode did have me teary eyed a few times. And I liked getting more insight on Stillman, he did a really good job in this episode. And I see that I'm not the only one who loved the soundtrack to this one. ;D

I loved the Stillman interrogation scene, especially Nick and Scotty's reactions when he pulled out the gun. It's sad how he went to war when he was a kid (17) and had to see all that brutality. If I did that, I'd be just like Stillman and not go to the reunions. I also liked the ending scene at the cemetery. Overall, a very good Stillman episode.

I also enjoyed the Stillman interrogation scene, especially when he conveyed intense anger just by the expression in his eyes as he glared at Ned. Stillman made his point without losing control.
As somebody who came of age in the 70's, I especially liked the soundtrack..the choice of songs were very appropriate.

There's a line in this ep that I really liked... it shows how CC can be really gritty just with great dialogue, and without resorting to showing 3d representations of bullets shooting through people, etc. (don't get me wrong, I do love CSI, but I like CC better ) Stillman: How bad do you think it was for Carl? Raitt: Bad enough I thought he'd kill himself. Stillman: hmm.. the gun was found five feet away from his body... Raitt: You remember how long it takes a man to die from a gutshot.Stillman is just a badass I hope that someday we can get some flashbacks to Stillman in 'Nam. Great episode!
