This is a sad one. Any episode with a child victim is doubly sad, but this one is even moreso, because of the motive--not to hurt it, but to protect it, in a twisted, tragic way. Freely is scum, and I would have loved to have seen him locked in a room with the mothers of his victims for 5 minutes. And I felt sorry for the pizza guy. I bet he blamed himself for what happened to Rosie and Toya. No wonder he went downhill like he did. Loved Lily telling Scotty what kind of a mother she had. When he insisted she must have had 'at least one good memory' of her mother, I had a feeling he was right, even though she denied it. It was sweet to see her prove it at the end. Was this the first episode where Lily really talked about her past?

I have seen this episode before but first time I can post on it. This was a sad episode and when I saw it the first time, I didn't realize Freely was a scum bag but then, watching it again helps since you realize things you didn't before.

What an amazing episode. This is the one I usually start people out with, along with the pilot, who haven't seen Cold Case. I have to admit, I didn't come into the show until Season 5. I knocked out the first 4 seasons in like a month. It's great to see such appreciation for this show on the web!

One of the show's most powerful and moving episodes. In my top ten.
It's a case that is two years old, but it works.
Mr Freely was an awful man- as Lilly said, he had control over those women, and he used it to abuse their kids. What an evil monster.
Rosie was a good mom. I liked how Lilly started with her bias against Rosie, because of her own mom, and then came to realise that Rosie had really loved and looked after Toya.
I liked how we learned about Lilly's childhood. Ellen was pretty damn awful.
The case was heartbreaking. Rosie wanted to protect her daughter more than anything, but the only solution was to jump out the window. The very people who she should have been able to turn to for help - her family, and her social worker- were the very people she needed to escape from. I am so glad she didn't go to jail, and that she went to a supportive place. I'm so glad she got to see Toya's ghost in her butterfly costume.
Lovely ending and opening songs.

I FINALLY got to see this episode for the very first time. Caught it in reruns on the local CW channel. Like everyone that raved about it, I also agree that it was an excellent episode and probably among the show's all-time best. It was interesting to go back and see S1 Lilly. And it was a little bittersweet to see again how great the show was... There's nothing really much on television today that grabs me like Cold Case did.
