@cbl: Yeah, Cuban Spanish is so different. They speak with a very odd accent but still that girl Marisol had a extremely rare Spanish accent
@ali: Understood
@lii2: oh yeah, the chess move. That made the guy to tell the truh

@lii2: oh yeah, the chess move. That made the guy to tell the truh It wasn't the chess move that made the guy tell the truth. Scotty was threatening to call some unit in the Police Division to mess up the guy's place since he was dealing or something like that.

I wasn't thrilled with the episode, but I I'll give this one a " Good", it had some funny moments and some sad ones. I felt sorry for how they had to travel over here on a raft, just to seek freedom. The cousin was probably tramatized about what happened to him when he got deported back to Cuba and thrown in that jail.
Yes he didn't mean it, but I think we've seen this motive happen a little too much in this show, The person killed someone in a split second due to anger.

Nice touch the bottle of champange in Scotty's fridge, not to mention the leftovers( I guess he can't cook). Hmm, it makes me wonder something about his family; perhaps some of them are still living in Cuba?

His cousin....
I feel really bad for his cousin. Bad things happen to good people =/....
He worked so hard all his life in playing Baseball in Cuba. Then, the dictator of Cuba, tells him that he can't play baseball anymore in Cuba so his cousin flees with him to the states. However, his own luck wasn't so fortunate. He got captured before he reached dry foot unlike his cousin Luque. When he's sent back home, the prison guards break his shoulder/arm as a message to the others who want to escape Cuba to go to the US. Finally, when he does build another raft to the US, he can't pitch anymore because of that injury from the severe torture so he kills his own family member out of anger, jealousy, and frustration.
Tragic story.....
Baseball was more than a game. It was his life. His only way, like his cousin, to make millions in the States. The only thing they knew how to do well.
*sigh*
Such a sad story....even though it's only a story, I still feel that it was alluding to our present financial situation. Hollywood is very liberal after all....and many good people are the ones that end up getting punished and scr3wed.

@cbl- good analysis but I did not understand the issue with the financial crisis

@cbl- good analysis but I did not understand the issue with the financial crisis It has to do with the economy, that way that it is. People are trying to save money,by cutting costs. This isn't really the thread to be speaking about though. The word on the player" Superstar", reminded me of that episode back in S3. For some reason..

Oh yeah: However, This is the episode thread They didn't mention Phillies are the champios or did they? I always like Sport episodes... I loved "A time to hate" &"Colors" but Those 2 were way better than this one, especially "A time to hate"

They did mention the Philies, since that was the team that the victim was going to play for. Yes it's a real team..

Idk...I really loved this episode so much to think that it is one of the season's best.
A) Tragic story...1 cousin sent away for murder, 1 family member killed, and 1 child that will never know his father again. Not to mention, the wife being apart from her husband and not being reunited in the US. B) Danny Pino co-writing this episode! C) Cuban government and history D) The culture and spanish dialogue E) Gonzalo/Cousin...interesting backstory about them living in America...and the cultural shock of coming to America and being able to make millions. F) A different side of Scotty...he's usually p!ssed or something like that...but we finally saw a sympathetic side. G) Funny jokes here and there about the PPD v. PFD baseball game. H) Champagne..that was a nice touch to the episode. We also learned a bit more about Scotty's family. I) Interesting to see Scotty talk about how he'll never go visit Cuba despite the many tourists.
I love these immigration episodes in general...."Cargo" and "Family 8108" are some of my favorites. This episode joins them.

it doesn't matter to me, that they didn't besides that was last yeat when they won.. Old news now. Speaking of Cuba, Pres. Obama is going to allow Money transfers and vists to Cuba. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
I did rewatch it, but I wasn't that thrilled, I still gave it a good. It wasn't my favorite but like CBL said it showed a different side to Scotty. Why can't he be like that all the time, Lilly looked like she needed to sleep.

I still don't care for him, my favorite is still Lilly. It was nice to see a character personal storyline other than her for a change. For me I knew who the doer was at the beginning, it wasn't hard to tell..

Hello boys and girls! Good day to you all! How are your weeks starting off? You know mine is rocking and rolling as always! I gave this ep a good rating. I have to admit I was very let down by the PGA runover last night. I know sports take precedence (have you guys ever heard of the "Heidi" incident during a football game a few decades ago? Sports will always take precedence because of events like that.), but it is a drain for loyal fans. But when I got to see it, it opened up a new perspective in the storylines. It wasn't simply centered around Philadelphia, but profiled a Cuban's successful defection and carried it through to his career in Philadelphia with the Phillies. It was a very inventive twist to begin with. And the story was not very focused on the team either. Granted, there were portions like Vera and his softball game obsessions ("Throw like a girl?" Ha! ) and Kat with her informant on the street Clifford (with the underworld knowledge). But the focus seemed to shift more to the victim and the crime itself. And the usage of the struggle of Cuban defectors was carried through brilliantly. Families split apart, imprisonment, deaths - I could truly feel what the Cuban people went through in their struggle. And I truly appreciated the subtitles too! I don't speak a word of Spanish, unfortunately. And when Lilly said "Gringa" to the cousin of the victim - is that Spanish for Gringo? And does the usage indicate a feminine version of the word? Just curious. It was a good episode, and I really enjoyed it.

Hey Eduardo! Hey, bud! Thanks so much for the prompt response and help. I knew that you knew Spanish, and I was hopeful that you could help. Say, will you be at chat tonight, Eduardo? I am planning on making it! Hope to see you there! Take care today, and thanks again for your help!
