I loved this episode! It was worthy of a "My thoughts about this episode while I was watching it" post. Here we go: Dude! Dude! Dude! Did Stillman dye his hair?!?!?! No one says "outie" anymore......... Aw, Lilly's in love. I just hope she ends up with Scotty at the end. Hey, Lilly smiled! She freaking smiled! Join his sorority? I don't wanna know............. Haaaa, that sucks. He's gonna tell on the geeky guy. It's that stupid LaQuinta commercial again. uuuuuh...."Well at least you're smiling in corporate colors" uhhhhhh....STOOPID! ooooOOOOOOOOooooooh! Buuuurn, Coach!! You know what? Steve Pratt is a loser. "$Priced to sell!$" ~ Aren't they ALL supposed to sell? Ugh......stoopid...... Scotty looks delicious. I wanna go to fancy restaurants with Scotty......... He did it. I am soooo good at this. Steve Pratt did it, yo. YEAH! Yeah, Steve Pratt, he TRUSTED you. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. Oh, that was unexpected. It wasn't with the car. It was with a lead pipe. Steve Pratt, lead pipe, football field. Ugh........I HATE this song. HATE IT! HATE IT! Lilly, you're a beast. HEY! It's not McGinty's Tavern anymore........

I think you misunderstood Lolgirlyy- Mc Ginty's was the name of the tavern where Christina had worked. The Tavern has always been Jones for the Detectives.
Finally they added some more comedy to this show, plus Lilly smiling. Nice to see her happy again, and I do like Saccardo even more.

hmm...it wasn't the worst episode but this one was pretty underwhelming for me. i know the people who are into shippers are gonna eat up the lily and eddie thing..but overall the circumstances leading up to the culprit being revealed how it was just another "heat of the moment" motive was a cop out. none of the flashback scenes showed any real consistency or even hinted real possible motives. the suspects were all over the place and it was really hard to see where things were going and the interrogation scenes werent at all rivoting. loved the music choice tho.
let's hope 1991 has a better case next week.

At first I thought this was going to be some kind of political link in McShane's death when they kept showing Nixon. Thankfully that wasn't it but the steroids definitely fit into this time line and to the way things were back in the 70's although I'm not sure if there was any medical information out there about the side effects of steroid use. I thought this was a very good season opener. It wasn't all that complicated which is fine and there were some memorable moments in it with the detectives like when Vera shows all the boxes to Kat to go thru the paperwork and she responds: "your evil." This Eddie looks dopey. I still call him cloddish looking. I liked some of the closing scenes with Vera and the football and Lilly in the bar. I guessed wrong on all the soundtrack songs. I liked the Lilly/Scotty interrogation of Pratt. I liked the needling and they did good on the interrogation together at the beginning too of "Breeze". I didn't notice Stillman's hair but Vera has a new do!

Latrobe, Pennsylvania: Isn't that out over in Naj Country?? It was nice to see them film on location. That was Philly's Lincoln Financial Field (home of the Eagles) in the stadium balcony scene, and you could easily see Philly's skyline in the background. This is quite an improvement from last season's premiere, where it was all too easy to see they weren't filming on the east coast. Yeah, this episode was rather "low key" like the previews seemed to hint at. But I'm fine with this, as this episode feels a lot like a midseason continuation of our abruptly ended Season Five. I like how they kept Lilly and Eddie's dialog to a minimum and left things between them to our imagination. She likes him; He likes her. That's all I need (and care) to know. The CBS affiliate here in Philly's got a news article on Cold Case at 11:00. I'm hoping to record, edit and upload it by midnight for y'all! ETA: At first I thought this was going to be some kind of political link in McShane's death when they kept showing Nixon. It's McShane, Naj. Not McSame. Sheesh! ;D

We'll see :-) The story does look like a tear jerker given the plot I read. I notice the producers don't do a well job depicting early 90's (90-92) lets hope this story is strong enough to overlook that hah
Boxman: One scene I remember in the pilot episode "Look Again" was when the victim's mother was walking to her home in Philly with the cobblestone sidewalks. If that was shot on location..i love the scenery. Im pretty sure that's not in California

This was a good ep!!!! Thank you CC producers for giving us a Football episode during Football season (and thanks to CBS for advertising it alot.) The main storyline was dense so there were alot of "red herrings" as to who killed the victim. The variety of locations was neat also, especially the philly exteriors gave it an "on location" feel. I liked the stories' characters and the themes of "male comraderie" among the jocks & the even the nerd/tutor. The flashbacks also didn't have the gimmicky (sometimes distracting) "film-grain" tricks applied, other than looking really color saturated. It felt right for this episode. I love that they made it a Jeffries-heavy episode. Thom Barry never disappoints when he's given the chance to carry the story. The best part was the inclusion of the little "extraneous details" which flesh out the personalities of the detectives!!!! Everything from Lilly's Hoagie to Vera's gambling to Eddie's bar tricks to Jeffries' nickname. I liked that conversation at the bar where Lilly wonders if Eddie's interrogation stories were B.S. (almost echoes the talk of the fans who question whether all of Lilly's "Childhood stories" are real or just tools she uses in interrogations.) Vera's new haircut looks great... His "Ickey Shuffle" with the football at the end was good too It's nice to see Lilly not taking herself so seriously!!! The wooden-ness of the last season or two will hopefully be left behind. Ending music: Reelin in the Years, Steely Dan, awesome choice. I like it when they end on an upbeat song! The songs in general were sorta "blah" but on the other hand I think the past few seasons have mistakenly put such an emphasis on making CC a "music event" rather than a "cop show", that I LIKE that the music wasn't as in-your-face. VEENA: not listed as a producer or executive producer! I must have missed something?!?!

I gave it a good (Field Goal, in football terms). I'm not sure whether it's because I expected too much, or whether it really wasn't up to snuff, but it came across as kind of jumbled and disorganized. The case was interesting, and raises a lot of issues about college athletics, and I liked the victim, though I would have liked to see his character developed a bit more. The detectives seemed kind of sparse, I thought, though I did enjoy the little moments we got. "Tombstone" Jeffries is awesome, as was Scotty's spiral, Vera's touchdown dance, the lingering bitterness they have about the '04 Super Bowl (Pats, baby!), and Vera calling Kat his "assistant." That look she gave him was nothing short of fabulous. Still not buying Lilly-Saccardo, but it's nice to see Lil smiling again. And...what the heck happened to the promo pictures? A couple of those promo shots I've been analyzing to death simply didn't happen. What gives? I feel cheated. A more detailed recap/review from me should be posted sometime tomorrow at www.TheTwoCents.com. Check it out!

Boxman: One scene I remember in the pilot episode "Look Again" was when the victim's mother was walking to her home in Philly with the cobblestone sidewalks. If that was shot on location..i love the scenery. Im pretty sure that's not in California That looks like to me a neighborhood in the Society Hill/Washington Square area of Center City. Lilly's home is portrayed as being similar to that kink of neighborhood, though her street IIRC is a little wider. It's actually a nice kind of home to live in if you work in nearby or can catch a train to the suburbs for work. A neighbor of mine moved into something similar in a block with narrow streets like that, and he was lucky that his sister owned a small office building nearby where he could continue to keep his car. The episode "Look Again" has a lot of footage here, and it's one of the few episodes that actually show "authentic" run-down Philly rowhomes and neighborhoods. They also show Philly's Boathouse Row in that exterior right before Lilly's "fake jogging" scene. ETA: Here's something creepy! Try this link and make sure you have "Street View" on!

Wow. @lii2, Oh, wow I never realized that! Thanks for pointing that out! Naj- That's a good theory, that he was killed for political reasons, I probably would have never guessed that.

I'm a new member to this board but I've been reading it for two years so my maiden voyage will be short. I liked the character of the victim, a real guy with loads of integrity. The sleazy Steve Pratt was my first thought of who was the killer. People that start out "taking care" of the victim early on, (i.e. giving them money and being a father figure, etc.) seem to be the one that "takes care" of them in the end. My one obvious nitpick was that the opening song, Takin' Care Of Business by BTO didn't come out until 1974 and this story played out in 1973.

Agreed, it had a nice continuation. I like that very much! Latrobe is about 30-40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Not too far from Central PA. At the beginning I wondered if that one man they showed who I thought was a coach with the hat, suit and dark glasses were they trying to mimic Jo Paterno? But he was too short. Do you know what I'm talking about, boxman?
I know I loved it! There were lots of these things in it. I liked it. The Lilly's hoagie reminds me of early Lilly and Kite. Did you notice that Lilly acts like season one Lilly around Eddie just like she did around Kite. That's what the hoagie reminded me of.

I'm really liking Saccardo a lot, more than the rest of the guys that Lilly has been with. Yet she was the one who went up to him, and decided to have a conversation. There was some moments of shyness but that quickly disappeared.
Did however, like their secret looks towards each other in the elevator. Reminds me of the letter that Elisa had written to Scotty, about her waiting for the lights to turn off so that they could hold hands. Perhaps if the undercover Narc wasn't there, they might have very well kissed.
Sure people were looking for more action but remember back in S2" The badlands" there wasn't a lot of action unlike 4X01- Rampage or 5X01- Thrill Kill.
Once again at least Lilly isn't a zombie anymore, but did anyone notice Lilly inside of the interrogation room looking out of the window? Last season she got a panic attack but now it looks as if she's actually full recovered from the shooting aftermath.

Hrm.
Is it just me, or were a lot of the scenes REALLY short in this one? So much so that it gave the episode as a whole a sort of rushed feeling to it. It sort of felt as though they were trying to fit in twice as many scenes as they usually do, and as a result had to cut the duration of each one in half. I swear, there didn't seem to be a single scene longer than fifty seconds for the entire first half of the episode.
I think that's where a lot of my issue lies with the episode, to be honest. The story was solid, and the Little Moments they got to include were fabulous - Jeffries and his nickname, Nick and Kat hunting down the duster, even Lilly and Saccardo - but there just seemed to be far too many scenes that were just too short and, personally, I had trouble keeping up. Just as I was letting myself get into a scene or a moment, they'd cut swiftly to a new one. Ditto the flashbacks - notwithstanding the teaser, we didn't get a single flashback scene until over ten minutes in.
That being said, there were a lot of things I did like, and I think I would've really liked Bad Moon as a victim if they'd fleshed him out a little bit more - on that score, I kinda feel they fell short, which is again probably a bi-product of too many short scenes and very few flashbacks.
As much as it pains and shames me to admit it, and as much as I'm pretty sure some people will be after my hide... I kinda sorta loved the bar scene. I was already giggling less than ten seconds in with the Scotty/Kat "what are you, sixteen?" exchange (my personal highlight of the whole episode), so I was all set up in "eeee" mode before Saccardo reared his head, which may be why. Whatever the reason, though, I actually found Eddie a bizarre kind of charming with his salt-shaker trick. Plus, the fact that he was drinking appletini had me in hysterics for about a thousand different reasons. And Lilly managed to refrain from annoying me even once in that scene, so points for that.
I kinda wish we'd seen more of... well, everyone, actually, but Will Jeffries especially, 'cause it was his episode and he always seems to get shunted in the "single episodes dedicated to one character" stakes. Though, to be fair, in this particular case, he wasn't the only one. With the obvious exception of Lilly, I don't think anyone really got more than a handful of very brief and sporadic scenes - and this includes the guest-stars as well as our regulars, so it was a pretty universal problem, I think. It was just... well, I sort of wanted to yell "slow down, willya?!" a few times.
To summarise, then... great potential, very very very bad pacing... so overall a "good" from me.

While I voted Good for this episode it was because of the case. McShane's character wasn't developed but I, too, suspect because we were given more detective moments. Where I see it different in those detective moments - I found them endearing moments from the gang. I do like that they tried to keep Lilly more centrally focused even though the show isn't what it was in the first two seasons in that respect. This is one of those eps that I'll like because of those short scenes kinda like "World's End". With Jeffries character they always seem to do that with him - not a full limelight. Except for "Death Penalty: Final Appeal".

I have to agree that the episode felt too short, but still it was nice to see Lilly not looking so depressed for once.
