I can pratically walk to my job, I haven't since the weather is still very warm. Now it's going into the 70's I might just do that.

Thought I'd bump this up - what are gas prices like in your area?
Regular is $2.55 at the gas station closest to my house. It went down from $2.59 last week.

It's $2.75 here. I imagine the latest "Crisis" will subside as soon as the holidays pass.

If anyone in the US wants to check: www.gaspricewatch.com/My area's lowest is about $2.61. I just hope it stays low when I actually have my car on the road!

To my knowledge petrol and gas are the same thing, it's just different words to describe the same thing. Now is that $1.70 a liter or a gallon? Because that may be more per gallon than what Americans are paying.

It's per litre, around $1.70 per litre, sometimes less if were lucky.

around $1.70 per litre, sometimes less if were lucky. Australian dollar, right? I mean, you're not converting to US dollars? Then that would be around $1.5 USD per liter so that's around $5.5 USD per U.S. gallon...wow! that's around the same price for gas that they have in Europe (Eastern Europe at least). That's so expensive I guess I shouldn't b*tch about high prices in my area.

1 liter = 0.26 gallons
1 gallon = 3.78 liters
$1 USD = $1.04 AUD
Keeping in mind that our dollar is roughly worth the same as their dollar, each liter they put into their car, is equivalent to about 1/3 a gallon. The average gas price in the United States is $2.63. 1/3 of that is about $0.78. On the other hand, each gallon we put in our car is about 4 liters over there. If one gallon of regular is $2.63 and one liter of regular is $1.70, that means in Sydney, one gallon of our gas is roughly $6.42 AUD. If I say my car has a 10-gallon tank, where I live it would only cost me $25 dollars to fill up if I was on E. In Australia, you'd multiply 10 by the $6.42 and get about $64 AUD. So yeah, maybe we shouldn't complain about our gas prices! LOL
lillyscotty, how big is your gas tank? In other words, how many liters of gas does it hold?

Well I usually pay $20 to get mine filled up only a quater, so I think that's still a big amount for me seeing I'm on a low wage. I can't remember exactly how big it is, I have just got used to forking out $20 every 3 days or something.

Filling up your tank 1/4 of the way costs you about $20. 1 liter of regular gas costs $1.70. $20/$1.70 = 11.76 and we'll round that up to 12. So 1/4 of your tank equals 12 liters. That means a full tank of gas would be 47 liters. It would cost you about $80 AUD to fill up your tank all the way. YIKES! 47 liters is about 12 gallons which is standard here in the States.

People see the "$1.70" and think your gas prices are low, but when they do the math and realize that liters and gallons are not the same nor are the gas tanks the same size, they see that you're spending a whole lot more to fill up than we are.
