That Bullet certainly has changed Lilly from an emotional standpoint, but it did however get her to realize about her own life in general. Don't get my wrong but Lilly will always be my favorite character but she's changed so much during these past six years, but that spark is dying down quickly.
Like every plot in books, Television, Movies and plays all characters must go through a change, if we kept them the same from the beginning nothing would make any logical sense whatso ever. Therefore Lilly had to go through a series of changes throughout seasons 1-6, including the bullet that ripped the hope completely out of her.
Though by the end of this last season (5), Lilly's starting to find herself again but no characters in any of above will ever be like they were in the first season. The fact remains everything changes including Lilly, but I do see that she was starting to get that spark back in those last five episdes after the strike had ended.
Though I do miss the old Lilly how spunky and full of life she used to be, perhaps the writers will revert back to a part of this.

LII2, I wanna get up and do the quick 52 second Poms dance in favor of that comment. I totally agree. Man, I gotta practice that dance. I coreographed it myself. ;D Anyhoo, back to Lilly. SHE NEEDS A BF! She will never get even remotely close to a life is she doesn't get a bf.

Gina- I do agree with you about Lilly not getting remotely close to a life and not having a boyfriend. Lilly can't seem to face the fact that she can't let go of any inner emotional problems, that the past boyfriends do see to notice quickly. With Kite it was her job- Lilly does hide from her personal life by throwing in work to attempt not to be wanting to be in a successful relationship. Also I have noticed that Lilly doesn't really know how to be in one especially since she had been engaged to Patrick whom I don't think is Ray at all. Though she might have been almost successful there, I'm thinking there was something that literally and physically tramatized Lilly to a point that now she doesn't know how to love or even be happy anymore. Despite that bullet from Ed, and the fact she is starting to recover the question is will Lilly ever find herself again or does she even know her own self for that matter?

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I've only managed to have a quick glance through this topic...
I understand what you are all saying, that she's different from who she was in the first two seasons but IMO that's good work by the writers... when you think about it would you be the same person after the George incident? I know I sure wouldn't be, would take me a few years to get back on my feet after that. I'm currently going through the seasons at the moment to catch up on it all and I'm on season 4 so I cannot comment on the recent episodes.
Then again I do miss the person Lilly was in the early seasons and hope the effect doesn't last!!

Well, this season shes so much more like how she used to be. She seems so much happier! The one thing is that she's not as much of a focus on the show as she used to be... Aw i don't want it to end after season 7, but maybe something really awesome will happen. I mean they'll have to do something happy to end it. Maybe lilly will get married or have a kid or something. or... Maybe it will get way better and they'll renew it if they can do that ? <3 Sam

Amen, TVFan! ;D
Warning: Here Be Minor Spoilers
I mentioned on a thread I made very recently that I had avidly watched seasons 3 - 5 (although I haven't seen all of the episodes in any of them, yet) and so was much more familiar with the emotional, angsty Lilly. However, I watched my first episode of Season 1 on Friday night - "Late Returns" - and adored the Lilly I saw there. In her final interrogation with Abby Lake, she was so feisty, so spirited, so - it's a cliche, but oh well - alive. I was literally cheering her when she said, "Maybe Abby wanted her favourite guy all to herself...?" and in the episode I watched last night, "Our Boy is Back" (a.k.a. "Useless Cats"), she was the perfect balance of Lilly; she really connected with the rape victims, but she also had some awesome lines, like, to Vera, "What did you do to him?" and, to one of the victims, "Detective Vera only looks like a Neanderthal." I mean, that was the Lilly I wanted to see, and although I know the George situation probably changed her in extreme ways, I can't help but feel as if I would rather not have had that plot and had happy Lilly back.
I don't know who it was, but someone said they didn't like to see Cold Case as an ensemble. You see, I disagree. Part of the reason I love CC was its ability to not relegate its supporting characters to the backdrop and have Lilly take centre stage all the time. Like, I think the show would really lose something if Vera left, or Stillman. I almost prefer those characters to Lilly, particularly Stillman (if only because of the utterly awesome Wrath of Stillman, put to fantastic use in the episode "Rampage"), and Vera to a certain extent. One of my main complaints about Cold Case - apart from the anti-Zombie Lilly feeling - is that they haven't really ever put Thom Barry (Jeffries) to good use. He had some great scenes in Shuffle, Ball, Change (I think it was) where he went to see the guy who knocked down his wife and caused her death. Why, Cold Case, WHY won't you give him a central episode, like Stillman, Vera and even Kat get theirs?

Bee... I have thought the same several times.... But... Lilly is the main character of this show... However, That is the reason why I like cases where the story around other characters Stillman/Honor 3.08 Jeffries/Colors 3.04 and The Badlands 2.01 Vera/Ravaged 2.18 and Triple Threat 6.08 Kat/8.03 AM
I saw your list of cold case episodes I haven't seen and I recommend you to try to watch more episodes...=)
For Lilly/ Lilly has changed, and We should understand she cant be the same because of George and because of the shooting... Her life changed... so I think it is normal she changed... It was a terrible experience...

I totally agree with you, Eduardo. Like it was mentioned before, some very bad events made Lilly change, events that made the series altogether very exciting.

I do agree, Eduardo. I know that Lilly's been through a lot (and you're right, I do need to watch more episodes , but I'd just like to see a little bit more of her spirit, y'know? Just occasionally.

Yeah, I understand Bee. But I mean, I understand Lil cant be the same with all those bad things happening to her. I understand her because I have had a very bad time this year and I am not the same happy person I was before... so I know how hard it is
