I think the real reason of all of this, is that Lilly worked so hard to become the first woman in homicide, and how she got to be respected. She abadoned any chance of being in love, and now Lilly's so driven to center her life around her cases, that Lilly's forgotten what it's like to be in love or possible how to love.
As for the family, she needs to be part of a family before she can have any kids. Lilly didn't exactly have a good family to start out with. After seeing this last episode, perhaps her father's family came help her.

I think it's obvious that Lilly was abused in some form as a child. I mean her mother used to lay out food for her and Christina and then take off. And according to Lilly THIS was better than the alternative. What was the alternative? What if it was Ellen going into a dry drunk and yelling at her children?
Also the season finale showed us (well at least it showed me) that Lilly has a child like side to her that's being heavily repressed.

Clearly Lilly was abused, I do agree with you on that Rev. You can clearly see the abuse in her eyes, but as for a child like side being repressed yes, she does. Deep down Lilly sees herself still as that same sad child that she was once was, but one the other hand she also sees herself as a grown woman. One side she needs to let go, when she does perhaps Lilly can have relationship and a family of her own.

Actually what she needs to do is combine the two sides together so they can balance each other out.

Or just simply let go of her past, besides she can't blame her mother for what happened anymore. Lilly's mind is very confused and complexed.

The problem that I see with Lilly is that it's made obvious that there are two sides of her. There's the side we always see; the adult Lilly who is very self reliant, enigmatic and reluctant to ask anyone for help. It's hard to say when exactly this side emerged but at some point Lilly decided that she couldn't rely on others and had to look to herself for help. So in comes adult Lilly grabbing child Lilly by the throat and shoving her into some dark closet somewhere.
Then we have the child Lilly whom we really don't see until episode 6x23. This side of Lilly is somewhat rude, snappish, prone to child like confusion and, not above throwing temper tantrums. (Honestly, I believed that at one point she was going to go into a rage and start wailing on Moe during that one part.) This side of Lilly also seems to be more concerned with her father than finding Kate's murderer. (In at least two cases the letter makes an appearance or is mentioned during times when Lilly's supposed to be solving something.)
So what she needs to do is combine the two sides. Yes, she needs to let go of the past but, only so her child side won't be repressed. By combining the two sides Lilly can still be self reliant but, can also rely on others for help. She can learn that there's no shame in asking people for help.

Pefectly said Rev, Lilly was more concerned with her father. It's like all hurt is stemming from him, but however there isn't any sign of hatered towards him. Perhaps all the bad things had started after he had left.
