Yeah i agree Longislanditalian....personally, i dont think she would have given a baby up either....but Lilly is our favourite enigma.....we know basically next to nothing about her....and i think that's the whole point of Lilly....keep people guessing....but im getting off topic..i'll stop now.

Then again... She does seem the type to do things for the right reasons. I mean, I like to think she throws herself into her work, not just because she has nothing else but because she genuinely wants to help people. Maybe she knew her child (and I feel like writing daughter, but I don't know why...) would be better off in a stable environment; she didn't want to give her/him what she had which was a young, drunk mother and a troubled childhood.

Even if she did have a baby, which I don't think she did, I think she would have kept him/her because she really seems to care about people. Like on "Beautiful Little Fool" the case was really old and was gonna be hard, but Lilly said she would try her best to solve it. She is really sentimental towards most people (except her family...lol)

I'm not sure about the "have or haven't" a baby, but what you wrote speaks also for my thoughts abortion no, nooo way... I don't think Lilly would be able to do sth like that.. no matter "how" the baby was "made" (ok, maybe i should not write that way..)

If she was ever pregnant or did have a baby (which I still don't think she did), that it is more likely than everyone else seems to think that she did abort or give it up for adoption. It would fall in perfectly with her current ability to be close and caring with strangers but not with people who are regularly in her life (family and coworkers). I think she'd feel guilty and beat herself up over it for the rest of her life and keep everyone distant from her because she would feel like she fails those she is close to.
My interpretation of "The Psychology of Lilly 101"
As usual, I have to go against the grain. What can I say? Tormented women appeal to me.

michelle- I mostly agree with ya I don't think Lilly would have let a man get that close to her anyways...I know everyone knows what I mean,lol...but hey we don't know what went on between her and Ray, so I could be wrong...

I think that is true but the very last thing Lilly says leads me to also believe she was put in a position to provide and couldn't. Maybe it was her taking care of her little sister if not having a child she couldn't provide for? Lilly: "Because I wanted everything too. But I was too damn proud to ask for help for way too long. Good luck okay?"It's unanswered for me. I think she was upset because her mother never provided for HER. Not because she had a child she couldn't provide for. And as she grew up and got more cynical, she refused to ask her mother for anything and that carried over into her later life with her refusing to ask anyone for help since she'd been let down so many times before. I'm almost certain that at least one of her mom's men raped her at some point. And she probably never asked for help from anyone in dealing with that--at the time it happened or at anytime since.

Still it's hard to say, but a part of me says that she did but another says not. Maybe Lilly wants one

I just picture her as one of those "dark" sullen kids. Probably a stoner--among other colorful substances. ;D A real rebel. I don't particularly see her as the sleep around kind though. Or as a teen pregnancy. Christina is much more likely to play THAT role. Besides, I like the idea of Lilly NOT having a baby. I've seen series where that's happened--main detective was raped in her youth and had a kid and gave it up. I didn't like where it led. I don't wanna see it here. She has enough of an interesting angst going for her without this. And without her multiple unfortunate love affairs.

That's a brilliant thought, Michelle. Sad and tragic just like Lilly. There's so much to explore with her.

Never thought she has ever been pregnant. I always think that that suggestive awkward reaction we have caught a glimpse is not probably from the side as a mom or mom-to-be, but as a child who had hard times in her childhood. I mean, ostensibly a strong one, at heart she musta dreamed of 'what if I become a mom' kind of things a lot, not in the dreamy fairy tale way like most of little girls does but to get out of the rank where she was, mere child as she was, and when she was with Ray or Patrick or whoever. Never realized though. She lost opportunities not a baby. Does my sentence make any sense? Well it seems to me that she doesn't have any issues, is just oversensitive to those things/situations. Getting back to your question, Naj, what I felt about the scene in Maternal Instincts was Lilly 1.felt his pain deeply because they had something in common 2. was greatly angered at his careless behavior, thus she wanted him to realize what he really needs before it is too late like her. No baby issues there. Can understand your point, though. Maybe there wasn't much meaning back then, now CC ppl might cook something for us?? no more drama... no more drama....please?

I think she was pregnant and she miscarried. She probably wasn't extremely healthy back then (picture waif with not enough food). Ray's baby, and she never told him about it which is why she's so reluctant to let him go (misplaced guilt, blahblah). Then again, maybe Christina was the one with the baby (we all know she's... well... slutty) and neither her nor Lil could take care of it well enough so Chris gave it up for adoption. *shrugs*.

Maybe Lilly's just simply yearning to have a baby, after all she is getting older and feeling her biological clock ticking away.
My other theory was that she might have been pregnant with Patrick's baby and after the Christina things miscarried?
