Slightly spoilerish for things that Lilly may/may not be doing later this season, so beware... Kathryn Morris Worried About Her Character on 'Cold Case'October 7, 2007 Detective Lilly Rush of CBS' Cold Case was on the receiving end of some devastating blows last season that even Kathryn Morris, the actress who plays her, has begun to grow concerned over just how she will carry on. “Lilly's been a little overly angst ridden -- I've been worried about her myself,” Morris told Hollywood.com. “I really felt like I needed to take Lilly Rush out for a girls' night or go to the movies, try to set her up on a blind date, something for God sakes. I told the writers, 'Look, I'm worried. Lilly, she's just going to off herself. I just know it.'" Toward the end of last season's finale, Lilly's, along with Lt. John Stillman (John Finn), his team and victim Kim Jacobi (guest star Ellen Woglom), were held hostage by a stalker named Ed “Romeo” Masterson (guest star Joe Reegan). As the authorities closed in on him, Masterson shot at Stillman and Lilly, but only the latter was seriously injured. At the hospital, she “realized the state of her affairs, professionally [and] personally.” Worse, prior to the hostage situation, Lilly learned of her mother's death. In Cold Case's fifth season opener, which aired on Sunday, September 23, Lilly returns to work “like everything's fine,” although she clearly is not ready. Stillman tells her to sign up for counseling, which she reluctantly obeys. Kathryn Morris said she believes it is necessary for her character to face her demons in order to bring back a sense of normalcy in her life. “I think she's going to have to walk through the tunnel of dealing with the fact that she was shot and realizing her mortality and that, 'Yeah, my mom wasn't great. My mom was a drunk. My mom died the same day I got shot. What am I going to do about it? What do I have and it's not just work and it's not just miscellaneous boyfriends that come through,'" she told Hollywood.com. Morris also revealed that although her character will not enter into a serious relationship this season, she will begin to entertain some feelings for a former flame. “She is going to start to investigate some old feelings she had for someone long ago,” she said. Cold Case airs Sunday nights at 9pm on CBS.

Actually this exploration of her feelings for someone might be just what Lilly needs. I do agree though, if Lilly doesn't do something she's either going to off herself, or kill someone else. (Someone that isn't a murderer.)
We don't want that.

Thanks Trublu So she's gonna entertain some feelings for a 'former flame' huh? darn. I hope it's not Ray. No offense to his character - but. . . . .

Perhaps it's an old flame we haven't met yet, an yes I hope it isn't Ray either.

I would love for the writers to re-explore the Ray relationship, but I'm also game for another former flame. Either way, I'm just happy to have more Lilly story lines to look forward to this season.

Heehee. I thought this interview was fine, only I'm glad I read it AFTER watching the premiere. The "old flame" words sound kinda ominous. I sure hope they don't turn back to Ray... *yawn*. His bad boy act really bores the heck outta me. But realizing life isn't just work and random boyfriends is a good storyline to follow.

Alrighty, I'm going to go against the grain and say omg, I seriously hope its Ray! He might be back from california, sun tanned and still freakin studmuffin-like. Then again if it is patrick... Guess that would be ok too, since we've only heard about this guy. But didn't he cheat on her with her sister? Cos that's bad. At least Ray is faithful. What other flames do we know? And yes, Lilly has been dark and twisty but we know she'll bounce back... She's the original homicide barbie!

I'd like to see Patrick... I think he's the only old flame we haven't seen yet! (Course, they just keep popping up, don't they... ;D)
Lilly does need to get out of her rut... I haven't had a chance to view episodes 2 and 3 yet, but I'm looking to see what happens with Lilly and her therepy... in my experiences, cops in therapy= interesting TV.

Thanks for the article, trublu! I definitely vote for Patrick (or someone we do not know about). And I definitely vote for No. More. Ray. Been there, done that, and I hope they do not do this whole "Hey Lil' let's go for a ride" nonsense over and over and over and over and over again. I would hope they could come up with something more interesting and original - something perhaps that will grow Lilly a little bit, and perhaps offer a glimpse of her past we have not seen.

I agree TVFan. If it is Ray it gives him even more of a point for being brought in in the first place. The story is unended as yet with those two. At least this way it can be drawn to a close or expanded to be of some benefit to finding out more about Lillys past??

Maybe it's Kite! Wouldn't that be somethin'??
I admit I never liked the guy much, but after that drunk phone call... and compared to Ray... he's much more interesting ;D.

I'd have to agree with you there, DF. I didn't really like Kite much, either. BUT ... I am thinking I may have to take back all of the critical things I said about Kite because these days, I actually find myself wishing he was still around. And especially as I start to see him pop up again on Season 1 re-runs ... he brought out some great things in her. I think what also interests me about the potential Patrick angle is the fact that this was the guy that Lilly - generally pretty guarded about all things love - was prepared to walk down the aisle with. There was a real engagement. The small tidbits we've gotten suggest she wasn't really in some sort of "phase" to escape her life (a la with Harley boy). She was already on the force, starting her path as a cop, on the way to becoming perhaps what we know of her today. We also know she still holds the grudge against Christina for messing up the whole thing (though one could argue it takes two to Tango, and perhaps Patrick is also at fault). And yet, she also seems to still be pretty protective of the mention of him (ripping Chris in S2's "Revolution"). I don't know, and it's all speculation on my part, but it seems this all still runs pretty deep for Lilly, that it's definitely not resolved within her. I'm curious as to what kind of person would've gotten to Lilly in quite that way (since very few ever do). Then again, I second the thoughts of just being happy to explore more of the personal side of Lilly Rush ... I can't ever really get enough of that.

As much as I'd like to explore the Patrick story, I really don't want Lil to get caught up in him again since he cheated on her with her sister. Plus, it seems a little out of character. She blew up at Scotty (whom she's never dated) for dating her sister! The problem with Ray is, they added this great story about these two growing up together and him making milkshakes for Lil after she was assaulted as a child. I'm such a sucker for these sorts of things!! Plus, he and Lil have some serious chemistry together. I'm only game for this story line, though, if Ray has changed since the last couple of times we saw him. I never even thought of Kite, DF! What an interesting suggestion. We know from season 3 that Lil has thought about him at least once since their break up and she has been working on changing the thing about herself that led to their break up in the first place. I wouldn't mind seeing Kite again as long as he apologized. What about Joseph??!! Of course in this case, it's Lil who would probably have to apologize. She was a little aloof with him toward the end.

She blew up at Scotty (whom she's never dated) for dating her sister! Definitely true, TVFan. I'm not sure I'd want Lilly getting caught up in any sort of old Patrick routine, either. I think it's just more a curiousity thing on my part ... like, who the heck is this guy? LOL! I'd vote for Joseph, but I confess after suffering through the first season of TNT's Saving Grace ... well, I've had my fill of Kenneth Johnson for a while. I still like the guy, and the character, but one too many romps around with Holly Hunter and I'm sort of OD'd on him at the moment. LOL! Strangely enough, I actually find myself voting for Kite.

I've given this some thought. Ray...eh. Although I did become a fan of the Ray after reading some of jambled's fanfics, and as cute as they are together, I think bringing him back would do Lilly no good. He probably would up and leave again. Joseph...no, god, no. They were good when they were together, but he left her because he couldn't handle it. The same thing would happen again, IMO. and I've seen one episode of Saving Grace, and he totally grossed me out, so no thanks. I'm kinda with LillyKat about Patrick. I just wanna know who he is!! So....I'll go with Kite. We haven't seen him since s2, and that would be cute. And it helps that Josh Hopkins (right actor??) is hot. teehee. ;D no I'm just kidding... EDIT 2: Sorry I keep editing, but just wanted to make something clear so that I'm not contradicting myself. I mentioned somewhere that I wasn't a big fan of Kite, and that still is true, I just wanted to see what would happen if he ever did come back. Didn't wanna seem wishy-washy in my opinions.

Oh my gosh, LillyKat, this is such a good point. I knew there was a reason why I wasn't too big on him returning. Bummer that that show ruined it for me.
I had to laugh at this LillyKat because I feel the same way. Of course, Kathryn and Josh had such amazing chemistry together onscreen that it's hard not to want to see them together again. That snowy kiss/bumps into a trashcan scene is still one of my fave romantic scenes of all time. So. Well. Done.
