Time for another one! This is getting a little confusing as there's no episode number this season so far but I'm assuming they're posted in chronological order... Anyway, it's a 1948 case: John "Boomer" Donovan is found dead inside a tunnel. Joseph's in it but also... Ray the motorcycle guy? It's not really clear, basically Lilly comes out of the PD at the end of the day and a motorcycle pulls up next to her. She turns around, says "Ray?" and then of course the page ends! Also, Vera is described as "rumpled". Apparently he's wearing the same clothes as the day before.

I was kind of hesitant to post yesterday that I was NOT looking forward to the return of Ray, but I'm glad to read am not the only one who thinks this is a little ... lame. Whilst I am a newbie, and playing catch up on the series, I feel like they should either a) pick the new guy and get on with it as having him finally be the one to add a subtle balance to Lilly's life (yet not overshadow it), and explore all the conflict this NEW relationship will bring; or b) drop the whole can-Lilly-find-love storyline and go back to having her have no life and living for her work. As much as I'd like to see Lilly to have some sort of life off hours, and thus, will hold out hope that perhaps she'll ditch Ray entirely this go around now that Joseph is in the picture, I'd rather NOT see the whole thing - which was so cleverly paced in the finale - turn into a romance cliché. Just have to wait and see, I guess ... glad the case sounds interesting - 40s; I like that era. /EDITED TO REPHRASE INITIAL THOUGHTS

Good very good points, LillyKat
Here's my question do the writers know that this isn't Cold case of our lives?
Why does Ray have to come back, unless it's part of the case. Maybe he'll see that she's very happy with Joseph and drive away. I'm very worried about this show this upcoming season, just stick to the plot and nevermind personal lives. It's getting way too much out of hand at this point.

Calm down everyone. I'm sure it's likely to all change anyway, but personally I'd like some Ray closure since that was the main objection of the last time we saw him. It's totally understandable that 2 guys would want Lilly. I mean she is pretty damn gorgeous!! I'll accept whatever the writers give and love it I'm sure. ;D

On paper, this possible triangle doesn't soond too promising to me either, but I've learned to not pass judgment on this stuff until I see it. Many upcoming plots have sounded not-too-promising before and then turned out to be great when I saw them play out. I have faith in the show and the writers to do right by this storyline, the characters and the integrity of the show. I'm not worried.

Honestly...i dont think you guys should worry so much. The writers have done a fantastic job with the whole incorporating the personal lives of the detectives into the show so far. They haven't overshaddowed the cases (well joseph being the excepton i guess). I'd be damned if Jerry Bruckheimer or whoever's in-charge of the entire thing turn the show into a mini soap opera. They have a reputation to uphold which i dont think they plan on jeopardising anytime soon.

So here's my ten cents... We don't actually see that it's Ray. Script writers love throwing the audience a curve ball; keeps 'em hooked. I think it's a way for Lilly to somehow reconcile her feelings about Ray or something... Of course it's not going to be Ray on the bike, and we're going to see a moment where Lil looks really relieved that it isn't him (much as I'm wishing for Ray because I do love the Ray). A way for her to get on with her life, and for the writer's to close that particular door (damnit, damnit!). However, if it is Ray, there might be some scene where we see Lilly tell him she's seeing someone else, and he'll ride off, never to be seen again (also, damnit!). She and Joseph mightn't work out but, again, the Ray storyline is deftly finished up.

Additional info As usual I hope that my translation is correct : The first scene takes place in 1947 in a tunnel where we discover Eamon McCallister, alias Big Mac, his son Bobby, and the brother-in-law of Bobby, John Donovan. At the end of this first scene, Donovan is found dead, half burned, after an explosion was heard. Of return in the present, Valens and Vera interrogate Bobby who tells them that it is him who had introduced Donovan to his sister and that his sister indeed understood that would be her life by getting married. Her father worked in tunnels and her husband also. She knew working schedules. Bobby adds that Big Mac loved Donovan as a son. Bobby implies that their boss in the time did not worry about the safety of the employees. And fatal accidents arrived consequently. One day, Donovan had it enough and he decided that the workers had to get organized. Their boss knew it and strangely Donny saw his widely shortened life... Source Here
