I've become a really big fan of 'police dramas' myself. One of my other personal favorites is "Law & Order" (Special Victims Unit in particular). Any other Law & Order fans?

AHH! Law & Order SVU is my favorite! Me and 3 of my friends are in love with it. It's IMHO the best Law and Order.

I just started watching L&O SVU this summer in reruns, and it is so good! I don't watch the others, but I really like the stories and the characters on this one. Apparently, USA Network airs reruns all the time because I've been catching some early episodes on there. It's a really well written show. Since the second season of Without A Trace did not go as well as the first, I think that SVU could become my second favorite cop show. I think we all know what my number one is... ;D

Yeah, TVFan, the show is awesome. I think both of the actors are really good and work well together. I like that it's a little different than the other L&O's because it manages to get a little personal without beating you over the head with it.

I like your point about the personal aspect of the show CC Fan. I watched Criminal Intent the other night, and it wasn't as good as SVU, IMO. I find the lead male detective a little irritating, although not as irritating as I find Horatio Caine on CSI Miami. One interesting observation...L&O:CI and SVU are very different from each other. They definitely have their own distinctive flair. CSI and CSI Miami seem like the same show with different characters in a different city (although both in very flashy cities). I wonder if viewers will be as open to three CSIs as they are to L&O. If not, I wonder if it will have to do with the distinctiveness. Also, you have the fourth L&O premiering sometime mid-season.

yeah, i totally agree. SVU and CI are really different so different in that if I were watching a scene without the main characters, I could tell which show it was. As for the CSI's, I couldn't tell unless it was an exterior shot. The new CSI: NY seems different but A LOT like NYPD Blue. It's like a mixture of NYPD Blue and Law & Order, which could either be a good thing (change) or a bad thing (change). As for the new Law & Order:Trial By Jury, I'm hoping it's nothing like that new show The Jury.

Oh I love L&O: SVU! Stabler and Benson are definitely at the top of my list of favorite TV show characters. I love it because we get to see how some personal experiences affect the way the detectives treat a case. The new CSI: NY seems different but A LOT like NYPD Blue. It's like a mixture of NYPD Blue and Law & Order. When I saw the CSI: NY prologue episode, the first impression is that... wow, NYC looks a lot more grimy than what I saw today! But since L&O and NYPD Blue have always registered in my mind by their main characters (Lennie and Jack for L&O, Andy for NYPD Blue) it reminds me of neither of the two. Another thing about both L&O and NYPD Blue is that they always have that grainy feeling as if they're just playing an old tape, but CSI: NY doesn't. Well, with Lennie gone and NYPD Blue at its last season this fall, I think CSI: NY would be nice to put on my TV schedule. I've never been a big fan of Gary Sinise but I've seen some movies that feature him and he's a good actor. Better than David Caruso, anyway . Oh, one more thing about SVU. I've watched SVU since its first season, and some of my friends that have been watching the show with me simply hate Novak and adore Cabbot so much that I got to wonder if there's something wrong with me, since I actually like Novak .

I like SVU, i watch it occasionally, but not a lot. Help me refresh my memory, plz. Cabbot and Novak are the attourneys, right? (and Novak as the new red head one?) I have a horrible memory...

trublu - Yes, they are the ADAs on L&O:SVU. Novak is the new one (with the red hair), and Cabbot was the blonde. Since I've seen some old episodes on USA Network, I've seen Alex Cabbot. I like her better, but I also like Novak. I know a lot of people don't like Novak, but I don't have a problem with her. They don't have large enough roles to really bother me either way anyway. Oh, I saw a really good episode the other night on USA. It was from Season 2, and it was called "Countdown." Stabler, Benson, Munch, and Fin work around the clock for three days straight trying to save a missing girl from a serial child rapist/murderer. Very powerful! One interesting thing - Olivia Benson had a Lilly moment when she had to cancel a date for like the 100th time with a guy she was seeing. Now, if that had been Kite, she would have been done.

I like Law and Order SVU as well. M dad calls it Law and Order SUV (and gets mad if we correct him). I wasn't sure I liked the Casey Novak character but she isn't bad. Very different from Alex Cabbot. I love the way this show mimics real life. In fact they even sometimes (actually many times) put disclaimers at the beginning of the show to that effect.

yeah, i liked alex much better, except that casey does seem to have a little more life to her she seems a little more happy and upbeat, which is kind of a nice change in the law and order shows.

Mariska Hargitay is interviewed on TVGuide.com about her EMMY nom, and she mentioned an upcoming episode for next season. I'm going to leave spoiler space incase some of you don't want to know. Here's web address to the full article: www.tvguide.com/news/insider/040716b.asp* * * * * * * * * * TVGO:Can you preview SVU's upcoming sixth season? Hargitay: I just finished shooting an episode called "Charisma," which is my favorite show ever. Chris Meloni and I are working in tandem, in separate scenes. It's probably the most difficult show I've ever done in my life. It's this amazing story about a cult figure. You gotta watch it because it's really poignant and sad

Sounds like a good episode. Most of them are sad, so if Mariska is telling us that this one is sad, it must be a tear jerker. ive been doing a little "investingating" lately, and ive noticed something strange. So far, one M.E., two ADA's and two Detectives have left the show. and the original law and order has had so many cast changes there are almost none of the originals left! i thought this was something interesting to share with you guys.

I don't know what it is about these shows, but everybody leaves them. Maybe it's just that they enjoy so much success that people move on to better things. I guess the fact that these shows tend to stay on the air for awhile makes a difference too. The amazing thing is that despite all of the cast changes, the shows continue to dominate. I guess it's just a testiment to their appeal. Very interesting Trublu!

Ya, i see what your saying. Some people dont like to stay in one spot for a long time i guess! I only started looking into this when i found out that one of my favorite characters had left, and i ended up just kind of stumbling on the rest of it. Its kind of interesting though, to see how they write them all off!! ;D

I foudn this on TVGuide.com. It's a personal note about L&O:SVU star Mariska Hargitay: LUCKY GUY: It's turning out to be a good year for my girl Mariska Hargitay. Just two months after nabbing her first Emmy nod, Law & Order: SVU's incomparable leading lady married actor and sometime SVU costar Peter Hermann last Saturday in Santa Barbara. According to her spokeswoman, Hargitay wore a Carolina Herrera gown and was escorted down the aisle by her dad, Mickey Hargitay. And although her rep couldn't confirm it, extremely unreliable sources tell me that my invitation got lost in the mail. The restraining order, however, is being sent by special courier and should arrive any day now.www.tvguide.com/news/entertainment/
