Sorry if there was already a thread for this show, but if there is, I couldn't find it anywhere. I just discovered this show and it's turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Cases are interesting and the character dynamics are fun to watch. The two main characters have some interesting chemistry (like they had some history??? Anyone know?) though I honestly hope they won't go down the Resolved Sexual Tension lane... that would be just... ewk. ;D UST is always the best. There's 3 things that caught me at once about this Brennan character: 1. She is SO grouchy!!! Always scowling. Gonna need plastic surgery to straighten out that brow. Something I, at least, can relate to. 2. Looks just like a grown-up version of Rory Gilmore. Put two snapshots of them together if you don't believe me. 3. She's incredibly smart as far as her profession goes... but totally backward at everything else. She's got so little emotional intelligence it's hilarious. It's like she TRIES to do stuff like normal people... FBI stuff, and empathetic stuff... and it really doesn't work out. She's a klutz! I like this character.

I've only caught a few episodes of this show (but am planning on watching the reruns if Fox will ever show them!!!), but I like it as well. It's a fun show, and I think any time they give a crime show to a female, it changes it up a bit. Brennan is bery interesting, and I think that you really nailed her personality DF. I'm looking forward to seeing more eps. BTW, the 2nd season starts up August 30th.

I LOVE Tempe Brennen! It's rare for me to find someone more socially inept than I am. Sonny, she and Booth do not a have history (yet). I think they'll just flirt around for a couple of seasons.
This series is based on books by Kathy Reichs. Very loosely based. Tempe is much more "normal" in the books. If you like Patricia Cornwell, they run in kind of that vein.
Things about this show that will grow on you: 1) As a forensic anthropologist, she doesn't get a gun like her FBI buddy and she SO badly wants one. 2) She is one kick-butt woman and can take down ANYONE and loves nothing more than beating up the bad guys 3) Unbelievably socially inept!
She doesn't laugh or smile much (now that you mention it) but I think it's more from thinking hard plus just having NO understanding of what people are talking about most of the time than from grumpiness.

Yeah, now that I've watched a couple of more episodes (ok--2, but I've watched them really carefully!) I understand where you're coming from. She's not grumpy, just impatient with people who don't see things the way she does or who get in her way when she's "thinking". She's cool and totally socially inept--I love that! Kinda wish she weren't QUITE so kick-ass though, I've got the feeling in these past two episodes that she's taken on so much, nothing will ever faze her. Which is a little TOO bad, since I'd like to see her reaction to some "first time" stuff (not exactly first time with Booth though). I'm really impressed at the kind of sexual tension the show's carrying on its back. I honestly dunno how they'll manage to keep the show alive without those 2 jumping into bed--it's an accident waiting to happen! And yet when it DOES happen, it'll be a major let down, like there's nothing left to hope for. I'm soooo intrigued about how they're gonna do this. It's only first season and already they've covered so much stuff... how are they gonna come up with anything else?

I've seen this show a few times - and I love it!
I think the character of Temp. Brennen is amazing! I love how she wants a gun so bad...cracks me up. And I really love how she's so smart, she really knows her stuff, and then when it comes to "normal" things she's totally backwards.
Love it!

I saw the premiere a few weeks ago, and it's awesome!! I LOVED every second of it. It has lots of mystery and more on Bones' mother. It even has an emotional ending. Good stuff!

It was on last night It was great apparently, she's got a new boss I missed the last episode of last Season b/c it has something to do with her mother and her father is missing? Very touching at the end when she went to her mother's grave and found a dolphin jewelry. Lot of funny moments and I just love her expressions with the new boss. ;D

Sheesh, haven't said a word here so far about this great show? Uhm ,well first season beat CC for me. Nicely said, DF, that Bones' lack of emotional intelligence is hilarious. - it is. She is quite a klutz but that makes her a likable. She cares about people way more than she is able to deal with or to show. Loved that inuendo in the pilot, Booth comparing their partnership with Scully and Mulder. It is a bit like that, Booth the more sociable character, Bones the criticial scientist type. There is a great tension between them, though as usual I'm not a shipper and think, the show would be killed the moment the 2 get too close. But the other characters are interesting as well and add a lot to the show. And the show has that sort of humour I simply like. ;D Couldn't wait to see season premiere and wasn't disappointed. Enjoyed every minute. Lot's of funny moments, as Eurache already said, full of dynamics between the characters that makes curious, how they will go on, more about Bones' father and mum... All in all makes me want to see more.

I didn't like Brennan's new boss. I liked the part in the end at the graveyard, especially the talking to her mother part. At the beginning it was forced and then she got more into it.
The way Brennan is so out of tune with the current world is hilarious, especially with Booth spouting out figures of speech all the time. ;D I want Brennan to find her father. I think the interaction would be interesting.

Think the new boss can be a pain in the ass, giving the team a hard time, but nevertheless I like her. Liked how she told the DA off. But well, she is a career woman, tough, knowing power games and not shy to play those. Guess there will be a clash between her and Brennan pretty soon.
Watched 2nd episode and it was so killingly funny, how Bones seemed to be preoccupied with this having a family / children subject. Great how the writers connected that with the case. The scene with Booth, Cam and Bones was hilarious, those glances between them! Great writing and acting.
a2z - at the moment I find it way more interesting, how Brennan reacts to her father without meeting him. She is confused what she should think about him, it's like your hero of childhood suddenly reveals as the bad guy. It's questioning a lot of her actions and reactions. As long as they don't meet directly there is an interesting tension in the story. Sure the writers have to be careful not to overdo it, but I'm not expecting them to meet soon. Personally hope they don't. But yeah, after while it could be interesting to watch how Brennan and her father would interact face-to-face.

I like the new boss as well. Bones seemed to be rethinking her resolve at the end of the episode when she saw Booth and his "family." Maybe she has a soft side after all?

I've only managed to catch a few eps of this show (it's on a Thursday night, and Thursday's are big at the unibar here!) but I love the books they're based on. It's a pity the character doesn't parallel the book char as much, but I still love her. I was trying to figure out why she looked fmailiar too; she's zooey deschanel's (sp?) sister. The only downside is David Boreanz, who I've never been able to like. He does better as the bumbling detective though, than that other character he played; was it a vampire or something? Anyway, I think we're only part way through season 1 over here in Aus and I'm trying to remember to set a tape before I go out. Love the UST!!! Only char I don't like is the spacey chick who's Bones' friend and who is the artist type that handles the re-enactments. Something about that character really annoys me.

I didn't like the new boss on the premier show either, but after the second episode of the season, I already like her much more. She's softened a lot, become more sympathetic and less of an agressive witch.

Wasn't it a great episode again?! Though I should avoid eating while watching Bones, lol. When they digged in the garbage at the beginning I couldn't stop imagining the smell, yiiks... good that TV comes without that, but still. And so, there it was, the clash between Brennan and Cam. Was a pretty good idea to make Brennan's biography as foster child and Cam's reasonable but prejudiced assumptions the last straw. But good that they found a way to get along with each other better in the end, talking about Booth (they have more in common than that, but it's nice and often like that, isn't it). But there a still plenty of possibilities left to keep the situation somewhat tensed. Oh, and Angela and Hodgins: sweet. But will it work? Haha, when they showed the conclusion, playing this beautiful song by Susan Enan, I was wondering for a sec: where is the ghost of the victim...

I thought that the Jasper thing was kind of cute. ;D Oh yeah, and the dog and the pine cone. I'm kind of neutral on the Angela/Hodgins relationship. If it works, sure why not, but if it doesn't I wouldn't care, as long as the show doesn't turn into a soap.

Totally agree, it was a great episode. This guy is so creepy, a manipulative bastard. And again they couldn't really nail him down. Think they did a nice job, not making it a big big drama, but show how subtle this works on people. Guess it's not the last time we met him. Yeah agree, as long as they're making no soap of Angela and "Hodgy" (haha), it's ok. And hope we're going to see Jasper again
