I didn't hate the Jack-dream-episode so much (btw, the new girl that's coming to CC was on that episode), but I didn't really care for it. I realized what it was about 15 minutes after the beginning, and from them on I didn't enjoy it very much. I was, too, annoyed by all the Jack drama throughout the season. Worst of it, how they tried to make him such a victim, the poor guy whose wife left him and took his kids, when, IMO he wasn't that much of a victim at all. He cheated on his wife and neglected his kids (I didn't watch the 1st season, but from what I watched afterwards I gathered he was a real jerk). I was glad he didn't get the custody of his daughters. (LOL... I'm mean).

No, i hear what you're saying Tati. Besides the fact that in most cases, custody goes to the mother (who knows why really) Jack was rarely home. And with their mother being a lawyer (i think), she is less likely to be called away at the worst times. What would Jack do with them, for instance, if he had to get in to work in the middle of the night? Get a sitter and have them wake up to a stranger? Or leave them alone? But with the lawyer gig (forgive me if she's not actually a lawyer, i cant remember right now. Its somthing close to that anyways) they really dont get called out in the middle of the night.
And in addition to that, he cheated with Sam! Oy. Their mother didnt do ANYTHING like that.

No, but it was still kinda horrible of her to just plump the news on his lap the night before he left, after he'd made the transfer and all. Not that I'm defending him!! He was a crappy husband, and though he wasn't such a bad father, I really don't think he'd be the best person for his kids to grow up with (too much emotional baggage, never home, not very dependable). The mom was a good mom, and given her situation, I'm not sure I would've behaved differently (in fact, don't think I would've given him another chance after he cheated on me once).

Yeah. We could have done without the "Oh, by the way, im filing for divorce" thing. After they spent so much time on showing the team preparing for Jack leaving and Jack preparing for Jack leaving, it was like, "He's not gone yet?!"

Yeah Disaster, good point. She was a b*tch for doing it the way she did, but I guess she couldn't take it anymore. I don't know what I would in her position, I might have done something like that too.
TruBlu: She was lawyer, I think. The whole reason of she going to Chicago was because she was offered a partnership there, wasn't it? It was something like that, I think. And the whole thing about Jack leaving also irritated me - what they did with Vivian, and how Jack got back so easily (however the way Viv was taken off the chief position wasn't unrealistic).

No, it was pretty realistic--just cold hard facts. The faves get put back in and totally worthy people get kicked back out like it's nothing... and it's usually what they've worked for their entire lives. I really felt for Viv.

I didn't like the way the Viv situation was handled either. It irked me that they just cast her aside like she hadn't even commanded the unit at all. I agree that, unfortunately, it was pretty realistic. I have some *SPOILER* news courtesy of the August 1-8 edition of the new magazine INSIDE TV (it's published by the same people who do TV Guide). Highlight between the lines if you want to know season 4 spoilers (and just so you know they're more MAJOR than MINOR):
**************************************************************** The magazine found the show shooting on the streets of New York. Both Danny and Martin survive the big shoot-out at the end of last season. Danny makes it through unscaved, but Martin is shown walking with what looks like a cane in the picture.
The magazine asks Poppy Montgomery if Martin's injury causes Samantha to go running back to him, but Montgomery says that it's more likely to be Jack that she's running to. She says that Sam is still hooked on him.
Total bummer because I really don't want Jack and Sam together. Just no! ***************************************************************

Thanks for the spoilers, TV Fan. I had forgotten about the shooting in the last episode. Of course, (highlight)nothing serious was going to happen. Now that's unrealistic. And Sam and Jack: ARGH!! I don't think I can stand another season of soap-opera-ness. And I have a feeling they're going to keep Viv aside as they usually do.

Oh, then you're probably along the middle of the 3rd season (which is the last one). The guy is Jack Malone (the main character).

Press Release from CBS via The Futon Critic regarding WaT's season premiere (WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT EPISODE): WITHOUT A TRACE (9/29; SEASON PREMIERE) Air Date: 9/29/05 (THURSDAY) Time Slot: 10:00 PM-11:00 PM EST on CBS Episode Title: "Showdown" AS MARTIN CLINGS TO LIFE FOLLOWING A SHOOT OUT, JACK, SAMANTHA AND DANNY SEARCH FOR THE MERCENARY RESPONSIBLE FOR OPENING FIRE ON MARTIN, DANNY AND THE TERRORIST IN THEIR CUSTODY, ON THE FOURTH SEASON PREMIERE OF "WITHOUT A TRACE," THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK "Showdown" -- Jack, Samantha and Danny search for the mercenary who escaped after killing the terrorist in Martin and Danny's custody and leaving the bullet-riddled Martin at death's door, on the fourth season premiere of WITHOUT A TRACE, Thursday, Sept. 29 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. John Showalter directed the episode written by David Amann, one of the series' co-executive producers. Picking up where the third-season finale ended, Martin and Danny attempt to dodge a hail of bullets as a mercenary and his cronies attempt to kill their true target, an F.B.I. detainee whom Martin and Danny were transporting. Despite some quick thinking from Martin, who uses the car as a weapon against the shooters, and Danny, who manages to shoot one of the perpetrators, their prisoner is killed and Martin is left gravely injured. Now, Jack, Samantha and Danny try not to let their concern for Martin hinder their efforts to hunt down the mercenary -- which becomes more complicated once Martin's father, F.B.I. Deputy Director Victor Fitzgerald, and the Department of Homeland Security take active roles in the case. Meanwhile, Vivian's heart-surgery appears to have been a success. WITHOUT A TRACE is a riveting procedural drama about the New York Missing Persons Squad of the F.B.I. The sole responsibility of the special task force is to find missing persons, by applying advanced psychological profiling techniques to peel back the layers of the victims' lives and trace their whereabouts in an effort to discover whether they have been abducted, been murdered, committed suicide or simply run away. The team reconstructs a "day of disappearance" timeline that details every minute of the 24 hours prior to the disappearance and digs into every facet of the victim's life, following one simple rule: learn who the victim is in order to learn where the victim is. Senior agent Jack Malone (Anthony LaPaglia), a tough but compassionate, seasoned and astute professional, heads the dedicated team that knows too well that every second counts when someone vanishes. His squad includes Samantha Spade (Poppy Montgomery), an agent whose blonde good looks belie a tough, complex approach to her work; Vivian Johnson (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a no-nonsense investigator with a special insight into victims' families; Danny Taylor (Enrique Murciano), whose sensitivity is often covered up by his street smarts; and the strait-laced Martin Fitzgerald (Eric Close), who joined the team as a result of his father's connections but has since earned his stripes. As the agents work on varied and complicated cases, details about their own lives continue to unfold. WITHOUT A TRACE is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Productions. Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Hank Steinberg are executive producers. Jack Malone: Anthony LaPaglia Samantha Spade: Poppy Montgomery Vivian Johnson: Marianne Jean-Baptiste Danny Taylor: Enrique Murciano Martin Fitzgerald: Eric Close Paige: Anna Belknap Adisa: Jason George Dornvald: Charles Mesure Nuru: Charles Parnell Lila Green: Napiera Groves Victor Fitzgerald: Ray Baker Paramedic #1: Natalie Gold Paramedic #2: Paul Borghese 2nd Shooter: Andre Ward Resident: Burt Bulos ER Doctor: Jeff Marlow Owen: Adam Paul ND Agent #1: Eric Scott Gould Ted Banes: Ned Vaughn Uniformed Cop: Larry Mitchell Receptionist: Carla Barnett Nurse: Kate Connor Dr. Klein: Beth Tapper Tech: Ty Miller ND Agent #2: Dean Cudworth William Nuru: Demond Robertson

Tonight's episode rocked. Laurie Metcalf from Roseanne guest starred as a mother whose fifteen year old son goes missing. She and her husband are frantic over his disappearance. What makes this episode cool is how they shot it. Instead of following the FBI team around as they try to find the boy, they shot it around the two parents. The team was in the background and the only information you heard was what they parents were told. I got a good feeling of what it might be like for a parent to deal with that problem. I was on edge for the whole hour. And I'm not telling you how it ends. You have to see this on the rerun.

This was a great episode R2K. I wanted to hug the writers for going out on a limb and trying that. It turned out to be a great storyline!

I also enjoyed that one a lot. It was a great example of a risk that paid off well. I liked having the experience of the worried parents. It helps keep things in perspective.

This episode was great because we're so used to seeing the team as they learned everything one piece at a time. And you also notice who spends more time with the loved ones. Martin got plenty of air time because he was at the house with the parents. I did have trouble keeping a straight face with Laurie Metcalf in the episode. She's a great actress, but I can't keep the image of her on Roseanne out of my head. And she makes that look on her face.
