I signed it even though I knew it was likely in vain(which it sadly was.) I will say as time has gone on,the point I made about being happy Cold Case ended on a high note a few years back has sadly been proven true with some of the other shows I watch. The final season of Castle was a complete trainwreck and NCIS is another show that should have ended a couple of years ago and is now sputtering towards the end of its run. Cold Case's later years, while not as solid as the first couple of years still had plenty of amazing episodes and ended on a decent note. Rather have it that way then a be careful what you wish for Season 8 that turned out to be horrible.

I'm doing my best to keep that from happening.
All you need to do is look at "Two and a Half Men" to know what happens when a show goes past its prime; even the writers knew how absurd that was getting. That's why they need to be careful about what shows they bring back after such long absenses. I can actually see bringing some shows back. To me, a good finale is one that offers closure; fans are not left wondering what happened to characters. "Gilmore Girls" had an okay finale, but it left a lot of questions unanswered for some of Lorelei and Rory's friends; I can understand bringing that back. "Full House" was another series that left an open-ended finale; I could understand bringing that back.
It simple, if the ending tied everything up, don't bring the series back. "Revenge" actually had a good ending in spite of its relatively short run. ABC could have saved themselves a lot of controversy had they just left "Roseanne" ALONE; the series had one of the better endings I had ever seen for a show. It did not need a remake.
In that vein, I don't think it would have been the worst thing in the world if Cold Case had kept going for another season as there were still questions floating in the air: What was going to happen with Lilly? What were the consequences of Scotty's revenge? Stillman stood up for Scotty once before, would there be consequences for him? Did Nick Vera ever fully recover from what happened with the Billingsley case? Additionally, I think there were still more than enough stories to tell from history for cases.

I agree with you there were certainly enough story lines to do a season 8 but whether they could tell them well was a different story. If nothing else,Free Love and Paradise Lost in season 7 were remakes of story lines done in earlier Cold Case seasons and poor ones at that. Would have hated to see more of that in season 8.

The Les Moonves scandal got me to thinking if his views on women are why Cold Case never got a fair shake the whole time it was on and not just because of ratings and $$$. Because at the time it aired,Cold Case was one of the only shows(the Closer didn't air until 2005)to have a woman as the main character of a crime show who was smart, tough and could go up against anyone and come away with a win. One has to imagine a show like that is something Les couldn't stand.

You could argue that Olivia Benson from SVU had existed for four years before that. This was another one I watched for a long time (before they started playing games with the cast). But I don't know that Olivia was always the central focus of the series like Lilly or The Closer.

But I don't know that Olivia was always the central focus of the series like Lilly or The Closer. Olivia Benson was a kick butt character but she shared the spotlight with Elliot Stabler. Cold Case was the only show(to my knowledge) on air in the U.S. where a woman was the lead by herself. Yes,the others had their chances to shine but Cold Case was first and foremost about Lily Rush.
