As you all may have heard, there is a massive effort being pursued right now by primarily female viewers of the show Criminal Minds to rectify the firing of AJ Cook and reducing the role played by Paget Brewster.
They have called CBS exec Nina Tassler in droves and I guess the last word was Nina issuing a verbal order to cease and desist. They also have 40 some thousand signatures on a online petition. Obvioulsy neither effort so far is working!
If we look at the situation as a whole though we see CBS's decisions to get rid of two female cast lead shows (Ghost Whisperer and our beloved show Cold Case) and now screwing with two other actresses. This shows blatent sexism and we may be able to use this situation to our advantage as well.
IF fans of all three shows would contact each CBS sponsor ONCE, telling them that they are advertising on a sexist network and that products advertised on CBS will be boycotted unless/until these sexist decisions are recified iy might get us our show back for at least ONE season. Imagine how many millions of dollars sponsors would lose if fans of all three shows refused to buy their products...Then the sponsors would be calling CBS threatening to take their business elsewhere and THAT appears to be the only language CBS execs might understand.
No matter what you think of these other shows it's the sheer NUMBER of women who would be calling or emailing these sponsors threatening to boycott that might work. Unfortunately this would likely only work for shows with regular dominantly female characters canceled this summer.
If anyone is interested in the list of CBS sponsor websites let me know by writing lbnf@ymail.com -- Most of these companies have a corporate headquarters website and email address as well as a phone number to call. Whatever method you would choose would be up to you.

I'll email you for the list!

Sorry, but especially after the firing of AJ Cook and messing with Paget Brewster I nolonger swallow the excuse that CBS just couldnt afford the song rights or whatever bull they were trying to feed us. If they can afford a Criminal Minds spinoff and to pay Charlie Sheen 2 million an episode they can afford one more year of Cold Case. I do wish though that Kathryn Morris had more fan contact like her own twitter or facebook or something.

She had a Twitter, but she never posts on it. Too bad, is there any way to contact any of the stars at all to let them know we have one more trick up our sleeves. Would hate to have this work and then Kathryn (or any of the regular cast) have another commitment.

I'll go ahead and make this an announcement, and send out a Mass PM; I do ask that everyone keep this respectful if they do contact any advertisers.
I've sent out a mass email actually. I do have two comments:
1. I'm really upset and disappointed in CBS. Cold Case wasn't a shock cancel, but Ghost Whisperer was, and now this debacle with Criminal Minds leaves very little wiggle room for there not to be something fishy going on here. A network doesn't just mysteriously cut shows and females leads all at once. There is just no plausible explanation for Criminal Minds, and given their plans for the spinoff and how much they pay for their male actors, it's quickly becoming a disgusting matter.
2. That said. I would strongly suggest that fans and members here not get their hopes up that this would bring back Cold Case. Idealistically that might be a hope, but a cancellation has been on the timeline for a while now. I would encourage everyone to see this as an opportunity to tell CBS that their fan base is very upset, that we do not support the way they are conducting their business, and that if this trend continues, they'll lose a large portion of their viewing audience.

If we want to do this for a full season.. we best do it fast....if it's not done by the end of July, CC will and the stars will have moved on...

I agree that it should probably be done in the next week. Each sponsor has a corp website and this is what I am sending them...you all can write whatever you want as long as you make it sound like you are part of a much larger group of potential boycotters.
In the past two months CBS has fired 5 actresses from 3 popular television shows and will soon eliminate a 6th. As a female fan and product consumer I find the sexism displayed by CBS appauling and am writing to let you know that fans of Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case, and Criminal Minds are banding together and will be boycotting your products unless/until these decisions are reversed. As a sponsor you can help make a difference and tell CBS that you will not support sexism. Thank You
In these days of businesses going under the threat of boycott from fans of 3 tv shows hopefully the sponsors will do the work for us. I am including not only Kathryn and Tracie in the fired actresses category but also Jennifer Love Hewitt and Camryn Manheim as well as AJ Cook from Criminal Minds.
I'm just very upset about Cold Case because it was always behind the 8 ball being on Sunday nights and being delayed by the football season. And CBS certainly doesnt need another version of Criminal Minds.

Judging by recent twitters by AJ and Paget, what's done is done. It sucks and it's unfair...but the PTB aren't budging. Paget to her credit has said she is done with the show after this season, and I can't blame her. IMO, I have a feeling Criminal Minds won't make it to season 7...which is what I think CBS wants. As for Ghost Whisperer,my mom was a hardcore fan (and is a feminist to boot) but in her option, the show jumped the shark with the story of the husband's spirit going into the body of another man and went downhill from there. Judging by other postings I've seen on it,she was among a large number of viewers who felt the same way. Canceling Ghost Whisperer had less to do with the fact it had a female lead and more with the fact that when it jumped the shark, viewers (my mom included)jumped with it. As for Cold Case, whatever the reason,it's sadly obvious CBS isn't going to budge on the cancelation. I did send a letter telling them exactly how I felt about it and the Criminal Minds garbage, but at this point, I feel we should all focus all our energy on virtual season 8. While it's obviously not the real thing,it will do. I have no doubt we can make it great.

It's good to tell people how you feel but you gotta realize that once they made their decision, that's the way it is. I hope to see a good Virtual Season 8 of the show...

I think this is more about a collective voicing their displeasure at this point than any actual effort to get any of these shows back. At this point in the game, it's pretty much done. But that doesn't mean we can't let CBS know that we're ticked about it.

Oh trust me, I wrote a very, very strongly worded e-mail that let them know exactly how I felt about Cold Case and the tactic with AJ and Paget. NCIS(which I'm a fan of as well) and their stars getting paid, I fully understand. It brings in more than 20 million viewers a week. But I have a hard time listen to the CBS head honcho talk about the money they've saved with canceling Cold Case when they're paying Charlie Sheen two million an episode. Charlie has made it clear he will pick drugs over his co-workers and at several points, has said he may quit the show. If I had been the bean counter, I would have had no qualms in suggesting he get wish. Canceling his show would have no doubt saved money as well. We should all let them know how we feel(don't mince words),but then move on and enjoy the seven seasons we did get.

Over at livejournal I have a friend who was posting about this very thing. Anyway, someone gave her a link where someone from CBS gives an explanation as to why they're doing this. Be prepared to vomit; It’s not that easy to get a male skewed show through development....there’s not that much on for them. There are not shows that have male themes. - www.deadline.com/2010/01/terrifying-tv-showrunner-ed-bernero/

The entire point also isn't shows that will just appeal to women, but what actually serves us justice. His comment that because "most development staffs are women" (is that even true?) assuming that this means that they create a lot of programming that women want to watch is ludicrous. By his own definitions, men and women apparently want to watch the same thing: men. Women apparently like to look at men, and men like seeing strong and sensible portraits of themselves. *Gag me.* AJ Cook posted this on her twitter (ajcookofficial) a couple days ago: yfrog.com/hqyi3qjNotice her shirt. That says all we need to know right there. (If anyone can't see it, it says "Creative Reasons" )

Plus, as someone pointed out, young men for the most part aren't even the TV watching types. They'd much rather play video games, get girls, work on cars, etc etc. Plus, those who do watch TV (my dad for example) may be more inclined to watch something that's not on primetime. (I know over here we have out TV constantly on either the History, History Int, Discovery, or the Military Channels.

I watch Hallmark channel the most. I very seldom watch the major networks. It's just as well because Comcast is saying we have to get a digital box converter and I'm not going to. I have basic tv now but I may end up just canceling TV totally. I'm not going to pay 4 times the price I currently pay. Internet is more important to me than the television.
