It's too late for me so I'm just going to say I thought this was a great episode even better than last week. Even though we knew the doer I just loved how the case unfolded.

Going to post this before I forget.
Did anyone else suspect that Lilly was lying when she told Paul that his wife was pregnant? She must have known that even if she were, Paul wouldn't be able to be there for his family. So, did anyone else suspect that Lilly only pulled that card, so that Paul would release her?

I voted for excellent. I liked it but I wasn't that thrilled for this one. Maybe because We knew who the doer was. But anyway Very good episode. In some scenes I liked Yates but in others not. I'm looking forward for the next episode: 60's

I really liked how East of Eden tied in to the case and everything about it.
Sharp writing and everyone performed at the top of their game.
Well done, CC!

I thought it was excellent too. I liked how Lilly lied to Paul so he would calm down but there were some scenes I didn't like concerning Diana.
Loved Jefferies taking that phone away from the manager.

So this Paul killed people when he would hear them say what his father said in his suicide note. Is this correct for most of them? That "no one cared" At first I didn't see the trauma this created for him but if you remember the flash backs between Paul and his father his father told him he's a good boy. And he did seem to be so and a happy son as well. And then a few minutes later to hear a gun go off and find your father dead would be very traumatic. I guess I missed the part of how or why no one looked for his father all those years.
Another thing that is strange is his obsession with his wife having a baby and all the money he poured into that. I guess he must have dreamed of having a son of his own.
I really liked the pace of this episode and how the episode basically transformed into some new type of possible scenario for how the series could possibly present cases in the future. If Cold Case gets another season do you think they will change the case format?

For the most part, I don't think the format will change if they have another season.. for the most part, I imagine they still want it to be a whodunit show.

I personally preferred the first half, but that I think is a matter of taste. It's also pretty common for the first half of a two-parter to be the better of the two, because the second half has to deliver on the promise of the first.
Some of you might have recognized Jon Gries (Bill Shepard) as Roger Linus, Ben's dad on "Lost". I actually noticed a few parallels between his characters on both shows:
-He is dead in the present, appears mainly in flashbacks, and is seen alive in the 1970's.
-He is an out-of-work and down-on-his luck single father, raising his troubled son alone after the death of his wife.
-His son later murders a large number of people.
-His long-decomposed remains are discovered by main characters in the present.

Funny that you should mention parallels, Todd, because I noticed a few between Paul Shepherd and a certain other character. JB Blanc who played Paul Shepherd in the present has a history of doing voice acting; mainly in video games. One of his roles was doing the voice for Travis Grady in Silent Hill: Homecoming. Anyway, while not as obvious as say the parallels between Bill and Roger, there are some parallels between Paul and Travis.
- Both have fathers who are dead in the present, but seen in flashbacks.
- Both have fathers who raised them after the deaths of their mothers
- Both of their fathers committed suicide
- Both of them discovered their father's body (but while one of them bolted, the other one just stayed in the room for ten hours.)

Isn't there a huge plot hole in this episode where Paul went to live with his relatives in New Jersey because his dad had died.... Yet his dad's body wasn't discovered until found in the basement in this episode? Didn't Paul's relatives know his dad was dead, while later Paul would be telling his wife his dad went away? Or did I hear something wrong?

I thought I remember that Paul had stated his dad ran away.

I think this episode was awesome. FBI agents brought some fresh blood to the series. I loved the interaction between Lilly and Diane, those two would be great partners. I loved how Stillman stood up to FBI. I loved the action. And the most amazing scene was at the end in the cellar - Lilly and Diane were so great then. I was shocked when I realised what the reason was behind Barry's death. Paul was a really sick man.
