I was unable to watch it tonight, as severe weather in our area pre-empted all CBS programming until about 15 or 20 minutes ago. So I'll have to take everyone else's word for it. LOL

Right now I hated this episode because of the FBI agent who acted worse than Lilly did concerning Moe.
But I need to re-watch it.
I did like the scenes between Nick and Scotty and Nick and John.

Not one of my favorites but very good! Something different Impactant I was even holding my breath at the end. Just that I don't get the reason for the murder in the drive-in (the boy) and the taxlawyer... at least still. Very good twist at the end when we all thought it was Bill Sheppard but he died! Liked the difference that now every single victim is important not like other episodes (Mindhunter, It takes a village, The Road) where they just focused on the most recent

Okay so they had a part of Yates that has "Sharon Stone" written all over it. I found that difficult to get past. Meaning they need Sharon Stone to play the role.
Oops, Lilly didn't look at the evidence picture too closely. Was Lilly under duress in her personal life at that time - is this why she missed it? Could be a possibility as Lilly has had one personal problem after the other since the beginning of the series! And there was never any type of official orders/documentation for this case that Yates was looking into. Stillman just took her word? That doesn't sound right to me at all.
I want to say this episode was truly stellar but it just wasn't for me. Some of the scenes were B quality like the swat team (those scenes have been consistent over the years in other episodes as well). Scotty stooping to distract the floor Nurse and Kat running in trying to get information seemed so out of character for me.
Now to the case. I do find the case to be interesting.
Not sure what I'm giving it - maybe Excellent. Will have to think about it a little.

I don't think we're supposed to "like" Yates. I like not liking Yates. If that makes sense.
The story itself got a little murky in the middle with the onslaught of characters. But a second viewing will probably sort it all out. And it may get better depending on the ultimate outcome of the story.

I loved this episode. Yates reminds me a lot of women with huge chips on their shoulders in the workplace that is usually dominated by men. Women who "make it" cannot stand other women in the same field that might possibly overshadow their own accomplishments especially after enduring a lot of sexual discrimination. It's ironic because no one really "makes it" on their own without some sort of validation from majority. .. in this case .. men. I think thats why Yates is sexually aggressive with men and a b*tch towards other women. Stereotypical? Maybe but I see it a lot in real life. Yates reminds me a lot of Catherine Willows in CSI during her early seasons. Hmm

Does anyone else think Yates might be the girl at the start of the episode? To me, she's seems more like Scotty in her actions instead of Rush, reckless and a definate vendentta she doesn't hide very well.

For those who didn't figure it out, even without having looked closely at the cast list for "Bullet", I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the girl at the drive-in (identified only as "D") was meant to be a young Diane Yates. Aside from the physical resemblence and the ages matching up, Yates also gets pretty evasive when they bring up Barry's murder. It also explains her personal stake in this case. (Come to think of it, I think they stole that idea from me! ;D ) -I'd read the casting call, so no surprise it turned out to be the son. It'd be kind of unlikely for a guy who'd be about eighty now to be running around sniping people anyway. -No end song for the ep this week, unless you count the music playing on the unlucky truck driver's radio (which I don't). That's new. -coldfan74 had an interesting assessment of Yates, flirting with guys and acting icy towards the women. Reminds me of Chris Rock's act about how "women hate women!" or what Joe said in "Stand Up and Holler" that "they say men keep women down, but you tear each other apart". Maybe things'll get fleshed out next week. -Would Paul really just let his father's body rot down in a cabin cellar for thirty years without burying him or anything? Then again, maybe I shouldn't try applying logic to a guy like that. Besides, if they didn't find the body, they wouldn't know they were looking for the wrong guy. -Looking forward to next week. Previews are notorious for being misleading (i.e. seeing Stillman through the sniper scope, then hearing a gunshot or seeing the body of a jumper that may or may not be Vera the week before), but I'd love to see if Yates is really as unhinged as it makes her out to be. It's probably a bit of an exaggeration, but we'll see. -No Jeffries this week. Kinda weird, given the high-profile case they're working. I realize they've had to scale back half the cast's appearances, but couldn't they have dealt with Vera's stuff off-screen and had Jeffries on instead? -I suspected Hudson was hiding something since his story about cleaning up his act sounded too good to be true, and he was played by a recognizeable actor (at least to anyone who remembers watching "Boy Meets World"). Given that he's not in the cast list for next week, I guess that's not the case. Maybe I am becoming more of a detective because of this show! ;D -Who else recognized Jon Gries (from "Napoleon Dynamite" and Ben's dad on "Lost") as Bill Shepard?

I re-watched the episode and I still hated it because of Yates. Too many things that didn't add up and I can't see any police Lieutenant allow some FBI agent to lead or help in a case. I don't care if she did know Johnny.
But I am glad that they did show Vera though because I know some posters in another board who were freaking out and thinking JR was leaving the show.
Seems like the writers were just lacking in this episode but they have done that in a few episodes lately.

I thought the episode was a bit of a drag for the first half of the episode, but in my opinion, it picked up on the second half. Anyway, here are some of my thoughts.
- Diane Yates came off as a bit of a Mary Sue; she walks into the office, and it was like they were supposed to drop everything to help her solve her case. Fortunately, the Sue-ish traits seemed to be lessened in the later half of the episode.
- Nick Vera in what I'm guessing is a mental institution, however I forget why he was committed there. Let me rephrase that: I know he's there, because of that case in 'Flashbang', but I'm wondering what his diagnosis is. As of right now I'm guessing it's 'survivor's guilt'
- Choke one up for this seasons second unintentionally funny scene. When Scotty was distracting that nurse, I laughed. When Kat snuck past her, I laughed. When Kat started shouting at the guy, and he flatlined, I laughed.
...I don't think I was supposed to, but that scene was kind of ridiculous.
- Ryan Cavanaugh seemed to be somewhat of a jerk to Lilly.
- Am I the only one who noticed some similarities between this episode, and Sabotage? In Sabotage, Alessandro got fed up, because people wouldn't do anything to help him, or his family, which resulted in the death of his daughter. In this episode, we have Bell Shepard who loses his car in 1978/1980; the repo-man take no pity on him, and one even starts to mock him. Then we have the bus driver who won't let Bell and his son on the bus, because they don't have $0.50, and nobody else would spare any change.
While it was never specifically stated, I have a theory that Bell shot himself, because he literally felt worthless, and felt like he couldn't do anything. His son, Paul, decides to go after the people who wronged his father. One of the repo-men was shot, and survived; but the bus driver was killed.
Anyway, I gave this one an excellent, and I hope that next week doesn't disappoint.

Again!
What motivations had the killer to kill the boy in the drive-in and the taxlawyer?

The boy, not sure. As for the tax lawyer? Maybe another person who wronged them?

It's a two part episode. I imagine many of the loose ends in this episode will be explained next week.

Simple answer for this episode! AWESOME! I loved everything about this episode. Most of all the looks between Lily and The FBI agents. Not to mention the hottie at the bar. All around great episode I CAN NOT wait for the second part next week. It was nice to see a bit of Vera after what happened. All around one of the seasons best

Okay, I have to admit, I usually don't watch Cold Case (in fact I did years ago but lost track and without DVDs it would be pretty hard to catch up) and only watched this episode because I'm a huge fan of Susanna Thompson. So no surprise that I really really like Agent Yates. She totally reminds me of Susanna's role in NCIS which I adored also *g* Okay, back to CC. I always like the characters that dare to defy the main characters in a show. I think it's a really interesting case and I'm totally looking forward to the second part!

Again! What motivations had the killer to kill the boy in the drive-in and the taxlawyer? Well, assuming the reverend's guess about the case are correct and the shooter was the son the entire time, it might be that the boy at the drive-inn mocked him for going bankrupt, or bullied him at school (unlikely) or maybe just "stole" that girl from him in some way ((and assuming that other theory that says the girl and Diana Yates are the same person, that is going to lead to some *interesting* final scene for "Bullet"...))
