I think this is the best episode this season. It does show when you noticed when someone appears to be going down hill, you need to help them and not turn a blind eye.
I would like to know how the higher ups knew and Stillman didn't? Did that cop at the scene say something?
The stars were great in this one and Stillman had some good scenes in his office too with Doherty.

I really liked the episode even though I wasn't really thrilled. 1. Finally, a detective saw the victim (Yes, John was one of the most suffering victims ever!) 2. Tragic ending. John's family didn't forgive Vera 3. Good way to show how police can be corrupt! My only question is Why John was killed and who killed him? I thought that'd be important but no!!! I need to know who killed him and why? Didn't you watch the beginning of the episode? JD was killed in prison by other inmates. He was killed because he was in jail for killing his children (even though it turns out he didn't) and in prison, people who kill kids or molest them are on the very low end of the totem pole. I missed some of the beginning.

Personally don't blame the family for not forgiving Vera. Too little, too late. He may have tried to make it right but the fact remains Vera caused their son to confess to a crime he didn't commit, and he died because of it. Hate to harp on the respect I gained for Doherty in this episode but upon rewatching this, I have to admit how right he was. Other than the brief moment he took away Lily's badge, Stillman HAS been letting his squad get away with too many things. Lily's vendenta against Moe, Scotty's bad cop actions of late and of course Vera. Trying to cover up an act which could have killed himself or others,I'd be ticked off too.

I thought he couldn't break him but convicted him on the strenght of the evidence. And I agree with the squad, as a whole, getting away with too much. I don't mind a little conjolling to nab a confession (a truthful one) but our band of heroes have been lapsing into blatantly illegal territory. Nice that there were some consequences to Vera's actions.

Whoops..just rewatched it...he didn't confess. Despite that,Vera is still largely responsible. Once he had it set that Joe was guilty, he didn't bother to look at any of the evidence from a different angle. There had to have been consquences for the DUI and crashing the car. That, and a cop who's an alcoholic can't be a good one. If we can all remember wayyy back to Season 1 in Churchgoing People, the case remained unsolved because the lead investigator on the case was a drunk and as a result, miss crucial evidence because he was either getting his drink on or recovering from a hangover. And one final note...if I had been the brother, I would have reported Scotty. I'm sorry but more and more each week, Scotty is getting on my nerves with his beating of suspects.

Scotty didn't beat the brother. He beat the person who raped his mother, but cop or not, anyone of us would have done the same thing. What he did do to Travis is not police brutality and therefore, he committed no crime.

My little Vera --- I love you! They finally gave Jeremy something substantial! Not only one of the best of the season but one of the best episodes of the series. Thank you to Writer: Greg Plageman, one of the series' executive producers, and Director: Jeannot Szwarc.

There are somethings I agree with but I don't know how he can reign in the squad if he doesn't know. I don't think we know for sure that he knows that Scotty beat up that guy in a recent episode but he did reign in Lilly but she chose not to respect his wishes even though he did take away her badge. Grant it, the squad could have done a better job of helping Vera out or try to figure out what was going on and maybe let Stillman know.

I think the best part about this episode is that everyone in the cast were actually shown.

I have to watch this episode again, but what really caused the fire in the first place?

Wow, all I can say is Wow. Jeremy Ratchford already has my vote on the Best Non-Kathryn Performance for the Season 7 Awards here on Look Again.
This episode reminded me a lot of last season's Officer Down. I think the cast just seems to click and the dialog flows so much easier when it is a case that involves one of their own in trouble.
I love the relationship between Nick & Lilly. He treats her like his little sister, but when he is in a jam he knows he can call her. Those two are my favorites on the show and I love any scenes when it is just the two of them.
As bad as I hate too, Doherty is right, Nick needs help & everyone needs to stop covering for him.
All and all, the music, the case, the acting, ONE OF THE SEASON'S BEST!!

Judging from how Doherty talked about his son, I think he saw a lot of what happened to his son happen with Nick. Let's face it, if Doherty hadn't given Stillman the swift kick he needed, they still would have been covering and trying to minimize the problem Vera has.

Okay, who did it? Who voted they hated it?
EDIT: The fire was caused by faulty wiring by a lame landlord who didn't want to get a professional to fix the wiring.

This is one of the few episodes where there is no "criminal intentions" or accidental death
Daniela & Two weddings - Suicide Roller Girl - Fatal accident Flashover - Fire by an accident Best Friends - Traffic accident.

I have to kinda disagree with the deaths being an 100% accident. The complex owner ignored and neglected to keep proper care of his electrical systems. To do that would cost $$$. Instead, he used a cheap and unqualified electrician to maintain the systems... with fatal results.
