This is a 1991 case and the victim is a 13 year old foster kid named Donalyn Sullivan. This looks like an interesting case from a musical perspective--it seems that Donalyn is an aspiring rapper. As for cop stuff, Saccardo is definitely in this episode. I don't know what happened to get to this point but he and Lil are having dinner in his apartment and he gives her a present: a gun! One's that's off the record so no one can ask questions if she uses it. Lilly said she would have preferred some diamond earrings... Also Vera has to go to the doctor for a checkup and we find out he's scared of doctors.

Thanks for the info, the dinner thing between Lilly and Eddie sounds interesting. The case does as well, but knowing Vera that's going to be priceless, about him scared of doctors; I could him making a big deal about it at work.

Sounds interesting. Vera scared of doctors? Funny. Not really happy to see Saccardo back though.

1991? Rap? Sounds a little like "True Calling" but let's see what happens

1991? Rap? Sounds a little like "True Calling" but let's see what happens True calling was about a teacher, not about a rapper.

I'll watch it with an open mind... but the world of rap isn't my thing at all.. Seeing Kat Miller again is though.

From the promo video (and title of the episode) it looks like victim's lyrics will play the major part in her murder and will lead detectives to the doer...Now, I hope I'm dead wrong with that assumption, because I saw that plot in a different cop drama just couple of weeks ago, in the episode of 'Castle'. Yeah, yeah I know...all cop dramas have similar plots but that 'lyrics plot' would just be a copycat and I would expect more from CC writers and producers...So I really, truly hope I'm dead wrong.

One has to remember, the scripts for these episodes were written a few months ago... so I imagine one being like the other is coincidence more than anything else.

Scripts for both CC and Castle were written few months ago...Maybe I used too strong of the word, I didn't mean copycat as in writers saw one episode and just copied the idea. But I still don't believe it's just a coincidence. More likely both writers know each other and talked about that idea of solving a case, or they both talked to the same person that suggested that idea, or they were both at some kind of a meeting where that idea came up. For two writers coming up with so similar plots for two different shows being aired almost at the same time...something had to spark it. I'm not saying it's a bad idea (after all musicians do base their lyrics on their life) and I will for sure watch CC no matter what kind of plot, music or visiting cast it will feature. But the similarities are just...interesting.

One has to remember there are thousands of talented writers in Hollywood writing for shows. The chances some of them have the same ideas isn't a shock to me.

No offense, but how you do know the writers of both episodes even know each other? You're assuming they do and that's why the similarities exist, but for all any of us know, they are total strangers who couldn't pick each other out of a lineup. I was at the grocery store the other day and this woman behind me in the check-out line was wearing the exact same outfit I was. Yankees t-shirt, blue jeans, Converse sneakers. She even had her hair in a ponytail the way mine was. Do I know this woman? Nope. Coincidences and similarities CAN be the result of planning ahead of time, but 99% of the time....it's random happenstance.

That can be a coincidence for sure and this plot was even used before... I think it was in Pin Up Girl and a n episode in the 5th season... I know the lyrics were not that strong in Pin Up Girl but gave an important clue to solve the case

One also has to keep in mind with the mystery genre....after 100 plus years of its, even a brand "new" idea... has probably been used at least once already.
