Not sure how many people were able to see the show (or watch it online coz it's up already , but if wanna get really tiffed at CBS go to their website and you are able to see the clips from the episode they didn't air. CBS is just screwing with us!

Watching it on-line is illegal, It's such a shame that CBS can't replay it during the week. I still doubt it will re-air again next sunday, we'll just have the next episode instead of this one.

LII2...I know it's illegal and I don't support people that put shows online like that...BUT since CBS failed to air it and CTV did and now, as you said, they will probably skip 7x04 I strongly believe that braking a law in this case is not a bad thing...

For everyone:
1. Breaking laws is breaking laws. We will not tolerate discussion of the illegal download/viewing of CC episodes.
2. Everyone please remember to only post once before someone else replies. There are several people posting 4, 5, 6 times in a row. Edit your previous post if you have more to say.
I'm unlocking this thread so that discussion can continue, but let's keep it civil please.

I'm not defending CBS, but canceling CC this week was nothing personal. My husband works for the local CBS in my city and the rules are very black and white. If the NFL game (or any sporting event) runs 58 minutes or more over its alloted time, then the last show of the evening gets canceled for the week. Last season, it would have been The Unit. This season, because CC is the last show of the evening, it was CC.
The reason why the folks on the west coast didn't get the episode had nothing to do with the NFL game. They didn't get it because the east coast didn't get it. CBS isn't going to air an episode in only one part of the country. Besides throwing off the entire schedule, it would mess with their ratings figures. Furthermore, they needed to fill the slot, so they aired a repeat in its place. Here on the west coast, we had 60 Minutes (started at 8:15), The Amazing Race (started at 9:15), and Three Rivers (started at 10:15). If anything, the network should cancel 60 Minutes, but that's not how they operate, I'm afraid.
So, bottom line: if a game runs past 7:58 again this season, we will lose CC for that week. It's just how the net works.

In any case, CBS would have lost the time slot anyway, because Sunday night football on NBC took over as soon as football was over on CBS. For those curious about the numbers: blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/10/tv-ratings-nfl-works-overtime-for-cbs-sunday.htmlI can understand people's frustrations at CC being canceled last night; I've been frustrated for 7 years about the push backs from football, even when CC was on at 8 PM. But, I think it's not quite realistic to say that CBS did this because they dislike CC, when, as TVFan pointed out, it would have happened regardless of what other show was in the time slot. Fact it, they aren't going to waste a new episode and throw local news casts into disarray when they can save the episode for a time when the games don't run over as much. Personally, I'd like to see CBS eliminate most of its Sunday night scripted schedule and move it to other nights, but realistically this may not happen. ETA: I'm trying to contact CBS to get an answer to how the airings will proceed from here, and I will let ya'll know if/when I get a response.

I just hope it doesn't happen again next weekend.... two weeks in a role would be too much for me.

Evidently CBS must have made a new rule. When NFL runs over the one hour allotment of 60 Minutes, they cut the 10 pm time slot show. I don't know if anyone remembers but 60 Minutes used to shorten their show when NFL football runs over. But that's not really fair to them now is it? They are the next show in line, why should they be bumped? The way the sports casters stated it last night on air was as I said above - NFL ran over the next shows entire time slot and so Cold Case will be cancelled. I suppose if NFL ran over 60 Minutes timeslot and The Amazing Race then both the 9 pm and 10 pm show would be cancelled.
ETA:
But it could. It could happen every Sunday that there is a late game on CBS up through and including playoffs. The ironic thing about the results of the football game is that Buffalo had a chance to go ahead and win in regulation time but their punter missed the field goal. One hour later, Buffalo finally scored on a field goal attempt.
another ETA: A few years ago it was suggested to contact CBS and ask CBS to begin football earlier in the day so that it wouldn't affect the line up as badly. I really feel the NFL should be forced to do something.

but the Canadian CTV aired the episode, right? Yes. As it's been mentioned in previous posts, CTV isn't bound to CBS's airing schedule, nor does it broadcast all of the same things CBS does, so they were able to air Cold Case last night. It's tempting to blame the NFL in this situation, but really, they don't have a hand in this. Football cannot end in a tie, and it's not like anyone can do anything to make the games go any faster, they play with regulations. It's really the networks who should be more responsible with their programming and allot extra time for live programming they know frequently runs over. I think an easy solution for this would be to eliminate the 10 PM slot and run re-runs if they happen to have time, and then introduce a show as a mid-season show in February after the Super Bowl. Not ideal for advertising purposes, but who's going to watch the advertisements if they are boycotting a network they don't like?

Hi Naj! Hey, girl! How are you today? Did you have a good weekend? Is your week off to a good start so far? Hey, I wanted to let you know that I found a link for you on ratings for last night's programming on CBS from tvbythenumbers.com - check it out! Nielsen Overnights for October 18As you will see, football overrun boosted CBS/60 Minutes and some of Amazing Race, but the numbers dropped off later in the night, and they are pretty low by the end of it. Maybe it's better that CC did not air so late last night. Of course, I missed it for sure, but I do not think it would have helped showing it at 11:00 pm-midnight on the East Coast either.

Thank you byrdman for the post of ratings. I won't watch CC if it's is on past 10:30 ET at night. It's too late for this gal. And I have no DVD recorder so I am up the creek. I'll have to wait for reruns. People aren't going to tune in that late when a schedule is messed up. Why couldn't they leave CC in in it's original time slot? So the Amazing Race got over 9 million. And remember when Cold Case was in that time slot what she got? 15-19 million. Why mess with a show that is doing really well?

Hi Naj! Hey, girl! You're welcome for my posting, I'm glad to help as always. Like you, those late start times are too much for me. No way, especially with a work day coming up! Ha! But I always make sure to TiVo it! Oh yes, Naj - I remember very vividly when CC was in the timeslot that Amazing Race is now in. Like you, I do not know why it was pushed back. We just need to make sure that we are part of the crowd watching our favorite show!

It's time like this that I wish that CBS would either make CC one of the shows that they stream online officially, or at least give Hulu.com the rights to air it online as well.
Note that both of these methods would be legal as they would be sanctioned by CBS.

Even though they didn't air it, CBS has clips from Soul last night, including the culprit! Why show them when the majority of your viewers havn't seen it yet?!
